What to consider when choosing between these similar Champions?

Ziggs/Xerath, and Fiora/Camille (and by extension almost every other fighter Top, like Irelia/Illaoi/Renekton/Kled/etc.)

Returning after a year long hiatus, so I'm trying to pick champions to (re)learn. Wondering what subtle differences there are, since these Champion's kits, roles, and item builds are so similar.

For one, Ziggs gets played instead of ADC sometimes now. Ziggs and Xerath actually both got touched during a mage class update last May, so you probably want to check them out. (Biggest differences are that Ziggs W can kill low health towers, and Xerath R gets 3/4/5 shots depending on ult rank.)

No knowledge about top, though.

For Ziggs/Xerath,

Xerath:

poke is more reliable from longer range
has an actual straight up stun (as a first-target-hit skillshot)
some mana sustain on passive (more helpful early, not that needed late from the little I played him)
I personally find the ult harder to get good use out of, but I don't play him as much

Ziggs:

crushes towers with a few items
can execute towers from out of thier range and around some walls
can hit multiples with ult more easily
better autos with passive for teamfighting
can run away/knock enemies away with W, but can also do the reverse
