The drop in performance in this game over the last couple months is starting to get kinda annoying.

The game used to feel so smooth no matter what settings you played on. Now I play on medium settings and at the start of games I have like 200 FPS, but in a fight if there are more than 6 people around it goes under 60. If it's a 5v5 with elder dragon and baron effects flying around, you might as well just get up and get a drink because you're basically gonna be playing a powerpoint presentation.

What happened? The first time I noticed how badly this game was starting to run was the first patch of this preseason. In season 7 there were some isolated problems but this season it's just been abysmal. I don't even have a horrible computer either, my rig is a couple years old but it still runs the same in other games and I have a GTX 970 and 16 GB of RAM, it's just frustrating.

Have you considered running the repair tool, defragging your hard drive (if you don't have a SS drive), updating your drivers, or checking for malware?

/edit And a really long shot, but I've heard of neglecting it before, but do you reboot your computer at least once a month?

//edit Khristophoros's comment about heat reminded me that you could have clogged fans or dust in your heat sinks. It could be useful to get a can of compressed air to blow it out.
