How many wards per game is considered good?

How many wards placed per game per role would be considered good? Also, what is a good ratio of pinks to greens? Just curious to see what other people would consider good warding numbers.

(Note: Looking for numbers, not stuff like "Enough to win" etc.)

Enough to win

Seriously, It really depends on your role. As the ADC, you might not ward as much as the support.

I'd say that ~10 for top/mid/jungle is starting to look good, ~20 for support and ~5 for adc

There can never be enough wards to win. You should almost always buy wards whenever you back because vision is incredibly important. Trinkets don't count(for people who seem to believe it does), they help of course, but you need to spend more. Green wards everyone can technically buy them whenever they back, an exception being ADC possibly so they can rush their DMG. As for pinks, unless you're against invisi champions, you won't need to place too many except by objectives or positions you want to be in. If you are against champions with stealth, well your expenditure should basically double just so you can crush that champion a lot harder.

Vision isn't that important, the power to contest is important.

You are throwing away gold by warding, unless if you make a good return on that investment by overextending and living, or by engaging and winning where you have vision, you might as well play without wards.

Vision is always useful. Even if it shows no champion, it still tells you "they aren't in this area". It means that you are safe to do things in that direction. Lets say there is a ward by the blue buff on blue side. If it shows the jungler there, it tells the TOP/MID they should play more carefully because he is on the topside of his jungle. It also tells your BOT they can go aggressive as there will NOT be any jungler support. On the other hand, if it DOESN'T show anyone, it warns that MID/BOT should play more carefully because the jungler is lurking on the bottom half of the jungle and the TOP can go aggressive as there won't be jungler support.

If you want to take risks and possibly throw the game because you were too cheap to buy wards, go ahead, but since there is a way to actually do something safely, why not take advantage of it?

if its a 40 minute game. each role is suppose to buy 2 pinks throughout the whole game except maybe for adc. and about 10 stealth wards per role except for adc.

so in a 40 minute game . top lane would have 2 pinks bought and 8-10 stealth. mid lane same thing as top. jungle should have 2 pinks and 12-14 wards (hes the jungler. 2nd support) and support should have a sightstone so more than 20+ for a 40 minute and about 5-6 pinks thrroughout the game. the only exception is the aDC who should have about 5 stealth wards throughout that game and maybe turn his trinket into a pink. but that is all

Kinda depends. You should always get some greens when you can, but if you're pink is in a good position (and you either aren't against stealth champs or have upgraded sweepers), you can get away with one.

Well in my low elo most people just say "It's the supports job to ward" even as top so by their answer it's a 0 REAL wards per game. Trinket is not a real ward the trinket is there for checking bushes THATS IT it's not a replacement for real wards by any means. You need to buy wards.

Ussally the adc never even uses their trinket. The adc should ward a quarter as much as support. 99% of games the adc will never ward and blame you for not placing 5 wards somehow. The support should have around 20 wards depending on the time. The top should have around 10 wards Mid should have 10 like top Jungle should have 15

I'm talking real wards not the trinket also(unless upgraded). As I suck at the game this will never happen so I will dream for a bright minimap oneday...

ADC do not need to buy pink but jungle and support should. Top and mid should prob buy 1-2 a game.

Pinks are tricky because they need to placed at key points, but the number of them really doesnt matter since it's one per person now. There is an average that you can find online...not sure what is is though.

I would say 15-20 per position (counting trinket wards). one pink ward is minimum if it doesn't get taken down, and more if they get taken down. Seriously you should always have a pink ward down. Everyone should purchase 5 or so stealth wards, and the support should have a sightstone and place 20+ wards in a game.

There isn't one number. You need enough greens to avoid getting picked, and enough pinks to force your opponents to make poor decisions. If you or your teammates are bad at placing wards, you probably need more.

Always switch to red trinket on your first or second back, unless you're the ADC.

because it costs 75 gold and gold is valuable.

depends on length of game. for the most part you should buy a ward every time you recall. sometimes two, rarely none. just save up 75 extra gold before you recall to buy that needlessly large rod or something. its not hard.

I would say there are three parts to answering that question: how many to get during lane phase, how many to get later in the game, and how aggressive is the other team about clearing your wards. The minimum is enough that you are never killed by someone who did not get spotted as they approached. Beyond that it is about having information to make better strategic decisions.

As mid lane the minimum I feel is needed to do more that farm creeps on my side of the river is to have vision of the river on both sides. Usually I place my pink in the bush between the cliff and the wall behind blue buff. Then a green in the lonely bush in the river on red buff side. Ideally I also place a green near the enemy turret to see if they roam, back, or in the case of TF ult (with him this ward is more important). The final green ward if I have a third it goes in the bush near the enemy wraiths to see when their jungle is passing through / doing wraiths (if I am pushed and have a good wave clear spell like Morgana's Tormented Soil while they are doing them I will some times throw it down to try and snag them while the jungle is farming them).

As support I put out lots of ward everywhere. During lane phase after getting a sight stone I ward the blue side tri-bush (often a pink if on blue team), river/dragon, and the lane bush.

As adc I pink ward the bush near the bot side buff for my team.

Late game in all positions that I do not get a sight stone in, I always drop a pink on baron if I do not trust my team to keep vision on it. If I have a sight stone I use that to keep vision of baron.

Honestly, considering you can start with a trinket, at least 10-15 no matter the position, maybe closer to 10 for an ADC but then again, vision wins games. Pinks really depend.

In soloQ 3-4 greens and 2 pinks should be enough, even in master or challenger. Support and jungler should get sighstone and a few more pinks. The adc can get away with buying less wards earlygame but should get a pink when he has some extra gold and inventory space. IF you're a toplaner that likes to splitpush then you should probably get 60%-80% more than usual. Double those numbers for premade 5s. In premade 3s you can't even buy wards so that's irrelevant.

That's not enough. It takes 2 wards top lane just make sure your always safe top and bot and more so mid. I'm not saying you should always have 2 wards down you shouldn't waste a ward if you see the enemy jungler is bot.

That's only if your midlaner doesn't ward. If the backside of your red is warded then you only need to ward river. For the laning phase you don't need more than 6 wards on the map to cover major jungle entrances and possible gank paths. At least that's my experience from master tier soloQ. Maybe challenger is different.

More than 1 because let's be honest. You know those people who never ward, you might've done it a few games who knows.
