Something that has always bugged me about Cleanse.

What is the logic behind not letting Cleanse remove suppression? Airborne is understandable given how rare and short that cc is, but its always bugged me that suppression was the sole exception.

I know that qss exists, but I'm curious. Was there a balance reason this was done? Where they afraid no one would buy qss? (An unlikely concern since Cleanse is a niche spell and the other spells like Teleport, Ignite, Barrier, Exhaust, and Heal are so much better.)

With QSS u are sacrificing one item slot to shut down one champions core gameplay mechanic. If it was simply summoner spell, you would hardly sacrifice anything. Not to mention with Cleanse you could do it from lvl 6 while QSS purchase has to be tactical decision.

Lets say Cleanse removes Malzahars ulti. He would be no threat to any mid laner.

Because suppressions disable summoner spells.

Because you would be able to counter certain champs entire purpose from the get go (malzahar, warwick)

Suppression was created as an exception to tenacity and cleanse in the first place, for cases where an ability needed to be at a static duration and/or was too integral to a champion's kit to let it be countered in champ select.

Because it's a garbage summoner spell and is meant to stay garbage. You're better off taking barrier and just activating that before cc hits

One of the most ubiquitous types of CC in the game. Meanwhile only 4 champions have supression: Malzahar, Skarner, Warwick, Urgot.
