I Dislike the Orianna Lore Change.

Little Late to complain I know, but given that it was given little fanfare, forgive me for not noticing it when the lore was changed.

Now I understand the reasons for the change, The summoner's rift had to go and Orianna's death via tower shot had to be gone. This new lore though kinda loses the appeal of the lore of old.

In the old lore, Orianna was but a mechanical copy created to replace a daughter lost in a tragic accident. It had combat capabilities because the father wanted to ensure he wouldn't lose his "daughter" again. She was self aware, but was NEVER human and thus all her quirks come from her attempting to emulate humanity without understanding it fully. She had moments of creepiness due to her idea of killing people being a "game" and her human appearance contrasted with her inhumane movements and actions.

The new lore has none of that.

In the new lore, Orianna gets poisoned by some toxic chemical that slowly erodes her body away, each bodypart and organ needing to be replaced with with a mechanical one until she is nothing but machine. Her last act being to save her father by sacrificing both her metaphorical and literal human heart to save him.

In fairness, its good lore, and well written to boot. The problem I have is with the fact that Orianna's lines, and movement in-game don't represent the character she is anymore. She isn't a replacement goldfish dealing with the fact that she doesn't understand what she is supposed to be and how her actions and misunderstanding lead to her being alone. Now she is someone, who lost her ties with humanity and with it empathy and understanding for humanity. That last bit may not be intended but how else will can you justify lines like:

"Why do they keep breaking?" "So strange, they scream." "This is a fun game." "They come apart so easily. How do you put them back together again?"

These lines are still in the game. On this new orianna, they make NO sense. While I'd prefer a return to the replacement ori of the past, but with her lore rewritten to account for there being no rift. I doubt riot will back down on it now.

That's more of a problem with Champions not being updated with Lore Updates, which if that was something we adhere to as a policy, than we'd get little to no modern lore for older characters for a much longer time. At this point, from what I can gather from your post, the question is 'Do we write Characters according to their current iteration or what we want them to be?'

The problem with the question above is shown with Evelynn's update. They gave her a modern lore story that matches the Eve in game as "filler" you could say, until Eve could be updated. Some people really liked that lore, and were disappointed when Eve was changed into something else than her lackluster original backstory was. At that point, you're asking people to stay with the Lore that was first, and limit themselves to something that may or may not have been that good to start with. Not a whole lot of room to expand.

(Don't get me started on Eve's "Ohhhhh, so mysterious, no one knows what she isssss, but she kills people and is BDSM)

The situation can also be solved with the simple "Lore =/= Game", but that's not fun.

I agree. I mean, Orianna is at her core a very confused being that doesn't understand what being human is like, which is in interesting contrast to blitzcrank, who has a better grasp on it while looking inhuman. I always kind of like it and it helps that the two of them were friends back in the olden days.

Maybe they could have a reveal that her father lied to her and that she did die from the toxins, but her father gave the robot her memories. i think that might be better off.

on a side note, I am also bummed thatThis song is no longer canon.

Wow didn't realize they changed it. I really liked the creepy vibe you got from Ori. Because she isn't a human. She doesn't have emotions like a human. She isn't a hero, or tragic. She isn't even a she so much as an It. Now I can't think of any character in league that is truly devoid of human emotions. Everything seems to be either good, misunderstood, or simply trying to survive. I liked a lot of the lore changes but this one leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Her new lore is much better, because you have to wonder if she’s really human anymore. Her short story shows how for her, the line between machine and man has blurred beyond comprehension. She’s not a mechanical contraption intrigues by organics, she was once a fully human who doesnt understand what it means to be human anymore. If you ask me that’s an upgrade

You have to keep in mind that the Orianna in the current lore, isn't just a person who has lost her ties with humanity.

Every part of the human Orianna was replaced by her father, that should include her brain, meaning that at one point her father took out her brain and replaced it with an artificial copy. And I'd say that is the point where she stopped being the human Orianna and simply became a copy of what she was.

So essentially you could say that she is still a copy in the new lore, only that said copy actually replaced the old Orianna bit by bit and not just all at once.

Same exact thought I had when I read her new lore..

I’ve to say the first story was far more tragic and creepy, it made develope more feelings for it. But I understand why they did it because the first story leaves little room for development. Then again I doubly we will see Pitlover story progression for a long time...

This is true of a lot of champs. Even though they have updated lore, their VO's aren't updated.

Or their VO's clearly reference the old League.
