i have a very reasonable thesis on why we have 4 v 5s sometimes in ranked.

theres always that 1 guy on your team who tries to dodge at the last second, and he fails. and dodges the game instead of the queue. so while he thinks he dodged the queue, he actually just disconnected himself from the game. thus making it a 4 v 5.

heres a word of advice to all of u. DONT try to dodge at the last second. either dodge right away or fking play the game.

Let's not forget that if you disconnect from the client during champ select, the match will still start.

In an ideal world with ideal players, clients, and servers, 4v5 protection must exist as a way to protect ranked from legitimate accidents.

In our current situation, where the client quite randomly and willingly blocks players from connecting past champ select, people screw up dodges because votekick isn't allowed (for reasons!), the servers are held together with old bubble gum, nobody gets told they have ping problems until it's far too late, and bans don't happen fast enough to deter ragequitters, 4v5 protection is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY.

Everything else is secondary. Bawwwww abuse. Shut up. Secondary. Deal with the 4v5, then adjust the player behaviour initiatives to compensate.

Here's your road map, Riot. This is free. The water is right here.

  1. New client. One that isn't awful. I don't care if you have to suspend champ releases for six months to do it. Do it.
  2. New servers. Ones that can detect when they're having problems on their own without forcing the playerbase to wait two hours for some technician to flip the loss prevented switch, long after such an action would have been useful. Also, ones that have less problems in the first place.
  3. Votekick. You need it. Every excuse you just regurgitated into your mouth is irrelevant. You want to break the meta, form a team and do it. You want to win, you kick jungle Zilean straight out of your ranked game.
  4. 4v5 protection. Still necessary.

New client features:

  1. Ping display, both current number and recent highs. Your ping must be stable and under 150 in order to play ranked. Obviously, once east coast servers go up (bahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha) this requirement can be tightened further. If your dollar store wireless router is on the fritz, I don't want to hear about it three minutes into my promo.
  2. When nine players connect to a game, the game doesn't start. It waits for the tenth for a moment and if they don't show up, THE GAME DOES NOT START. I don't know how much more obvious this solution could be!
  3. When ten people connect to a game and one drops before seven minutes, the game ends. SHUT UP your whining about abuse is not helpful.

Additional notes to reduce ragequitters:

  1. True solo queue. This requires no explanation whatsoever. If you must retain duo queue, make it for duos and trios only. Players can now queue up for a game under the veneer of fairness, or with the balls out randomness they experience now, as they desire.
  2. Balance team needs to learn how to balance. Stop nerfing Sona and deal with an ACTUAL PROBLEM. For ONCE. Kassadin was MONTHS AGO and they have done NOTHING USEFUL SINCE. Firing them all is absolutely an option.
  3. Eight bans, minimum. Preferably ten. Let us go back to banning out problem champs with our personal playstyle, rather than the banlist's current function, which is to knock off all the gamebreakingly OP champs the balance team lets run wild while they continue nerfing Sona.

Thats probably the reason for some of the AFKs in league, but what i want to know is why people will be on a role saying "WE GOT THIS GUYS" and afk 5 minutes later, costing their team the game.

Not making that up either, 6-2 Vayne goes afk never comes back :(

There's that, but if you dc at champ it starts, and sometimes the client prevents people from joining games. It happened to me in ranked twice, and had a friend who had this issue every now and then. If only games would not start if people were missing right from the beginning.

I have had this happen in 6 of my last 7 games. I loose points ... Can't riot figure out it is a 4v5 I know they can because in bots if it is a 4v5 (afk/DC) only 4 bots will play the game (making it a 4v4).

Apply the same to ranked and you now have a way to respond to this.

1) New client. Agree. Riot, this is going into season 5 now and you guys have blown up and one of the top dogs out there. C'mon, I'm tired of having a shitty client that I have no idea that will work from one patch to the next.

2) New servers. Agree. My ping stays around 90 so I have no problems. But apparently the East Coast does.

3) Votekick. Disagree. I don't want to be kicked because I played something somebody didn't like or because I pissed one guy off in a 4-man pre-made. Also, I like to try new things and have fun in normals. With this in play, you will be kicked every time you don't play something that's LCS.

4) 4v5 protection. Neutral. Hands down, we need some sort of system that works and won't be abused. With this in play, if the chips are down early in the game, someone could just leave to prevent the loss, taking advantage of the system. So you could say, "punish the person x2 for leaving, that way it won't be worth leaving.". Yeah, but what if it really wasn't their fault for DC'in? What if their internet simply went down? That wouldn't be ok to take 40 LP from them or something severe. But honestly, what are the chances of getting a 4v5 even twice in a row? It happens, but not even close to every game. Until they come up with a solid idea for this, it's just one of those things, "shit happens".

Show your current ping and your highest in the last hour or something. That way if you have high ping or occasional spiking, you can wait before proceeding into ranked.

For the same problems the 4v5 protection, people would abuse and DC their internet just so the game don't start if they don't like it. Causing long amounts of time to actually play.

1) True solo queue. Natural. Honestly, I like playing with my buddies in ranked. But at the same time I hate when their duo queue is using voice communication and mine just blows. I wouldn't mind a true solo queue but I would miss duo queue with my buds. True solo queue would end a lot of the carrying accounts with smurfs, though.

2) Balance team needs to learn how to balance. Disagree. I feel League is more balanced now than it's ever been.

3) Eight bans, minimum. Preferably ten. Disagree. I think we should start with 4 when we raise it.

Uiru you have some good ideas and opinions but 4 v 5's and duo queues are all parts of ranked you need to learn to deal with, a long time ago in my promos to silver my last game that would decide whether I got into silver or not was a 4 v 5 but my team won because instead of bitching and complaining we worked together and won the game. Another game we had a Tryndamere who thought the game was over and was running in circles at base to not get the afk penalty, then he decided because we weren't losing faster he would feed on purpose, we ended up winning because the rest of us worked together and won through teamwork. Basically you can always win a 4 v 5 if you work together and play competently. I do agree with some of your other opinions but I wanted to address this one.

How about riot actually fixes the queue like the player base has been asking for for the last like 2 years! I'm currently waiting out a 5 minute timer because...I didn't want to play a game with a jungle jinx....a simple vote kick out of lobby with THAT person getting penalized would quickly fix this issue.
