Why build Rod of Ages on Twisted Fate?

I've been playing some TF and I noticed that all the op.gg builds rush ROA and I dont quite understand why. The passive doesnt seem that good on him, and it seems like going early damage for the level 6 roams is best. Why build it?

Long ago it was a great stat stick, maybe they take it for the same reason now? Flat health can be what saves you from being bursted at times :P

Lack of escape tools I would guess. Maybe the they use the defence to fall back on.

Beats me :/

If you ult in on a Lucian and his support turns on you, you die.

If you're vs. a LeBlanc and she's within 5 nautical miles of you and their jungler is nearby, you die.

If you gank top and you don't have any tankiness, you die.

RoA (or Abyssal for AP mid+jg combos) keeps you from dying long enough to be useful.

Any questions?

ROA gives sustain in lane and is a very cost efficient item.

Every ap champ should build roa, (Except no mana champs) Its stats are amazing for its price.
