Why is Dangerous Game more Popular in High Elo?

http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/masteries/ I was curious about the different rate masteries were picked up with the Gold+ filter vs Diamond+ filter on. Apparently Dangerous Game is significantly more popular in Diamond. Some offensive champions such as ADCs had it picked like 20% more often. Does this mastery really make so much of a difference that the pick rate is THAT different for Diamond and Gold or do people in Diamond just like it more for some reason?

I'll be honest, I'm in low elo and this seems like a very situational mastery to me. I get that an ADC can theoretically restore 25% health with a penta kill if you are at .01% health when you get each kill.... but that seems like the farthest thing from a common scenario. Much more commonly, you'll kill someone with 20%+ of your health left and restore <4% of your health when the threat to you is already dead. Someone please enlighten me as to why it is such a must have in Diamond.

  1. ignite

  2. more health = longer up time in teamfights

  3. It can technically lead to baits if you get an extra AA out of it though calling it a bait could be a bit excessive the extra health you get is something that people don't immediately factor in because you can't.

It's a really under rated mastery, it often causes double kills where you would have went 1 for 1 because people don't calculate for the heal and that small difference makes the time for it.

Secondly a lot of champions don't give up much for it, especially if you're poor user of frenzy, bladeweave/spellweave, or warlord.

50 hp is often the difference between a death and a double kill

It's the katarina of masteries.

And people realized that double-edge isn't that good as well.

The issue is that every little bit of survivability helps to get through close scrapes, and it has no internal drawbacks. I run that mastery on every pages that takes more than 5 points in offense, and will gladly sack a point or two from the bonus AD/AP masteries (forget their names) for it. I've also stopped running Double-edged sword on my carries and some casters (still tend to play the latter as balls-to-the-wall glass cannons). Though I still run it on melees, where it's a net positive.

Also worth noting is the hilariously large difference in Gold vs Diamond ADC Quints. It is like 70% Attack Speed 40% AD for Diamond+ and 40% Attack Speed 70% AD for Gold+ haha I wonder which runes are better.....
