why does true damage exist?

zacktootall··3 votes·582 views

i mean i get that it is a counter to tanks but for someone like myself who plays tanks there is no counter to true damage. if you wanted to make the tank meta go away then just nerf the tank items as you have already done. we are already out of the tank meta because of this action so why does something with no counter exist in this game there is no reason with in the realm of possibility to such a unfair mechanic in the game and riot wants to have their esports.

You kind of already answered your own question.

then there is no point to true damage then

So when the tanks, brusiers and fighters are building pure tank and outDPSing every other role like they were back in season 2, what then?

zacktootall1 votes

how any tank or fighter building PURE tank out DPS any other role except support if that was ever the case then this game was messed up for longer then i ever imagined

Because true damage wasn't really a prominent thing, back in those days, brusiers and fighters were kings, champions that had a decent amount of base damage in their kits like Irelia, Olaf, and Renekton were able to build pure tank and with no true damage to stop them, they could freely run over the game. Hell, back then, ADCs had to deal with Randiuns not only slowing attack speed but ALSO slowing move speed of whoever they attacked. Season 2 was NOT a fun time for people who didn't play bruisers.

first off that sounds like i would have had a blast but now that true damage is in the tank players like myself have an unstoppable problem unless someone has a counter that i don't know about. so i ask now is there counter play or mechanic to true damage

So it is ok when you have fun, but not when others?

On that note, the counterplay to true damage is raw HP and killing the person doing it. Champions that have true damage normally have some large flaw to them that prevents them from being utterly broken.

Fiora, Twitch, Yi, Vayne, and Ahri are incredibly squishy. While all of them have means of avoiding CC, it is going to be a cold day in hell before they survive being stunned and focused for longer then a second.

Darius and Garen's true damage is situational and they are both weak to kiting. Darius has to spend time building stacks and Garen can't even choose the champion he gets to do true damage to.

Cho Gath has zero mobility, literally zero.

The only two champions with true damage that don't really have outstanding flaws are GP and Irelia, and it isn't GP's true damage you even have to worry about, the reason Irelia doesn't have any flaws is because she is a red mage, she is good at everything, but excels at nothing and nerfing her would require for all of GD to apologize for making the "better nerf Irelia" meme, and that ain't ever gonna happen.

thank you and is it really that much fun to use an unbalance mechanic where i have too change almost a full build cuz of one thing well guess i can't rule out opinions.

again thank you for your insight it has not changed my opinion of true damage but still this could help not just me but many others down the line who are just as stupid and stubborn as i am thank you.

Certain tanks would be completely unbeatable if it weren't for true damage. Vayne is the only ADC who can 1v1 a Rammus in the lategame, and even that stops happening if you use a build with which you REALLY want to piss off an ADC because she'll die before proccing enough true damage to melt him, even if she has a lord dominik's regards.

then nerf the tank items like riot has done there is no point in having true damage

This isn't true at all. Tanks require you to act as a team to take down; you can't kill them with just an ADC, because that ADC should have protection from their own front line, that tank is probably stacking armor, and you should have an AP on the team that can nuke 70% of that tank's HP, or be running an armor shred comp (J4, Wu-Kong, Renekton, and Corki all have armor shred abilities) so you can reduce their effective armor by something like 85%, so all that armor they built is basically useless. Alistar is the only character that is basically impossible to kill without true damage, but that's only the case while his ult is up, so if you bait his ult, then disengage the fight until it wears off, you can still burst him down.

Try playing a tank; you still die basically instantly if you're focused, which is why tanks are usually the first people to go down in pro/high level games unless a team is running a dive comp.

Also, why would an ADC be able to 1v1 a Rammus? His kit is literally made to screw them over, and ADCs, aside from maybe Vayne, aren't really made to 1v1 anyone. They are meant to be doing damage from the safety of the back line while the rest of the team protects them.

I often play tanks, and with some builds, you'll almost never die against anything that builds AD. In one match, I 1v2'd against a Yasuo who had a Lord Dominik's Regards, who ulted for the bonus armor pen, and the enemy ADC had a Lord Dominik's Regards as well.

They weren't able to kill me, simply due to how strong my itemization was.

Cinderhulk top had more to do with the interaction with red smite than actual cinderhulk.

It also had to do with ramping Cinderhulk AoE damage per second than raw HP provided by the item. Your argument is hardcore fail.

Building hp can counter true damage; if u r 3xxx to 4xxx Garen ; i dont think anything can hit a 4000hp tank with no true damage in late game; also not to mention the regen from items. Of coz having true damage champs like yi or vayne are squishy and do not have much kit for tankiness; irelia is half tank half damage dps, so unless true damage can three shot a full build tank, otherwise i dont see any issues with true damage

Without True Damage, certain champions would just never die. True Damage is the counter to champions who build nothing but HP. If a champ builds a crap-ton of HP and then like 1 or 2 Armor/Mag Res items (and/or Warmog's Armor), they'd be practically immortal unless EVERYONE focused ALL their abilities/attacks on them.

The two best examples of this are Mundo and Zac. Both of these champs' kits pretty much require them to build tons of HP. They may get, like, 1 or 2 Armor/Mag Res items, but the main goal of their builds is HP. Now, both of these champs have some way of regaining this HP during fights and will more than likely have built Warmog's Armor to assist this regen after short skirmishes. Combine that with the fact that they have no actual resource, you're gonna have a hard time fighting them...I'm sorry, KILLING THEM...without some type of True Damage to pop through all that HP they stacked.

TL;DR - True Damage is a necessary evil in this game. As Over-powered as it isn't, it is absolutely needed to keep tanks from doing their jobs TOO WELL.

EDIT: True Damage and HP counter each other.

True damage is the counter to those who build resistances instead of HP*.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that. I shall stand (sit) corrected.

true damage doesn't bother me the way % health damage does. and frankly i find champs like rammus to be abominations that throw real tanks under the bus

Back in the day, feral flare is even worse than true damage

The only true damage that has ever bothered me is Vayne 's passive.
