Advice for playing squishy melee laners?

I've spent most of my years in League playing ranged/mage characters or tanky melee characters in top lane. However, I'm recently getting into characters like Qiyana Katarina. I'm not used to playing as them, so it feels like I'm always falling behind in lane or just straight up losing trades hard, especially if my opponent is ranged. I kind of get how to play them in the mid/late game roaming/teamfight stage, but I'm completely lost on how to effectively lane as these kinds of squishy characters. Pls help

While getting as many minion last hits as possible is a good thing, it is important to recognize which ones you need to give up on because you will take too much harass causing you to lose out on more CS/XP later or maybe even cause you to die.

Buy movement speed items so you can run away from heavy bersekers such as darius ,urgot etc. item 3009 item 3142 item 3078 item 3742 are those items. You also want to build burst damage if enemy is range so you crit them or ks them on low hp, you don't want life steal because range champs usually have slows or dash like vayne Q and will kit you from under turret.

you have to farm until your champion hits a reasonable powerspike Qiyana for example hits hers at lvl 3 Talon at lvl 2 Katarina at lvl 3 Zed at lvl 3

then try to get a kill if it fails you farm until your next power spike or if at least the trade was good for you you try again careful at trying again because you can get ganked and if you get killed you are boned

other than that melee squishy champions are bad unless they have get out of jail free cards like ekko or zed if you look at some high elo qiyana players they usually execute somoene and then die

You're aiming to snowball off of enemy champions so play around their cooldowns heavily and only interact with them when it's heavily in your favor. This gets much easier post-6 but pre-6 you need to play safe and have good, safe runes to lane with. The harder you feed the other mid the more of a non-option it becomes to start snowballing off of them.
