Criticism regarding Evelynn's new VO
Before I get into this, I want to open up with the points that;
- I've played Evelynn for a LONG, long time, and have always wanted her to receive a huge update like this.
- This isn't about her being too sexy or whatever.
Evelynn's rework is pretty much everything I've wanted. She's still a succubus-type demon, she's still about stealth, she's still super sexy and violent, but my problem is regarding a few of her lines in the new VO.
I'll be frank about it, some of them are a bit too edgy, or just straight up corny. Old Evelynn's lines, while short in supply due to how old they are, gave off the impression that while she was very flirty, what really got her excited was killing. Her new splashes seem to reflect this as well, especially the Masquerade one.
When I listened to Evelynn's new VO for the first time, I expected the same thing, but being completely honest, a lot of her flirty jokes and quotes just don't land. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of them, rather than feeling mysterious or threatening as they (and Evelynn herself) are supposed to, come off as way over the top and cheesy.
When I think of a temptress like Evelynn, I expect sexual dialogue, of course, but for this particular character, I would think that she would be FAR more of a tease about it. This isn't to say she has NO lines I like, because she has some that I absolutely love ("Don't try to tell me I'M not gorgeous!" "Every kill is just a lover who didn't work out." "Sealed with a KISS!" "Skank!" "I use every part of their torment, nothing is wasted.") and I have to say there's MORE lines I like than don't, but she's got a huge number of lines that just come off as super immature and childish innuendos for this woman who is this mysterious, sexy killer and as someone who has had her in his top 5 characters for a VERY long time, I can't help but bring up my opinions on this.
I'm not suggesting anything be removed, as corny as I find these lines, but I do feel that her being a Xayah/Miss Fortune-mix doesn't completely fit her as much as much as being a sultry, mysterious type succubus would.
