Being able to control when the lane pushes, freezes or gets pushed towards you is really a good thing to know. It lets you more or less control how exposed you and your opponents are to ganks and forces your opponent to think hard about how much risk it is to get that last hit off. You also then can punish backs by pouring waves of minions into their undefended tower.

Having high cs is amazing when laning since more gold = more damage, quite literally for ADCs who almost always build a damage item first. And having that IE or whatever well before your opponent is amazing. Even having a B.F. Sword over your opponent's pickaxe is a great start.
