Seems like the solution to make every "bad" champion good, is True Damage

Yi GP Fiora Garen

I can already see the Yorick rework:

"Once Yorick has 2 or more Ghouls by his side they will deal stacking true damage!"

And have a dash, slow, and movement speed buff

Abilities that invalidate defense are one of the most impactful way of improving the damage of a champion without causing them to reduce soft targets to a fine red mist.

What would you rather get hit by, a 500 True Damage nuke or a 1000 Magic Damage nuke? If you're a Tank the former will hurt more than the latter. If you're a squish, the latter is going to hurt a HELL of a lot more.

Look at melee champions that aren't Tanks or Assassins.

Most of them either have true damage or some kind of resist shred. It's the least disruptive way of giving melee champs a damage advantage over ranged without going apeshit on raw damage numbers. That's actually part of the problem Noc has. His damage can't be too high or he'll be popping soft targets like Knifecat while also having great sustained damage. If he gets remade, expect either True Damage or resist shred to sneak into his kit.

"Once Yorick has 2 or more Ghouls by his side they will deal stacking "maximum health %" true damage!"

Urgot Poppy Yorick Galio Evelynn It spooks me just to think about true damage in their kits (Poppy especially)

And let's not forget it must be %HP

The thing is, Fiora and Garen didn't actually need reworks. They just kinda got them. Yorick at least needs a rework.

Its because Riot doesn't have another option or just cant think of one :P , tbh I think riot should listen to the pros and players who know the game more.... OR JUST GRAVES HIS FUCKING CIGAR

And make sure they can heal somehow

And? It's a working solution, it brings fighters in a spot to do a healthier amount of damage.

Yi was never bad. No one ever called him bad.

ModKnightsKemplar9/12/2015, 3:51:32 PM2 votes

True damage is a convenient way to give melee champions damage in a way that doesn't require them to build pen to do damage. Garen can still build tank and be a threat, which, given his low mobility, is important.

GP also falls into this category. In Fiora's case, I think it's mostly supposed to be a comeback mechanic in case she gets behind and has to forfeit a penetration item, but I wouldn't be opposed to changes in her kit that removed it. Same with Yi.

Given some of these arguments, I fully expect Aatrox's rework to include his W no longer having a health cost and dealing 10% of enemies health as true damage.

I mean, Garen needs it so he can still uild tank and be a threat, since he has 'low mobility', aparently. Aatrox has almost no mobility except a Q with a godawful windup, and he burns 10% of his current health to use it. Only seems fair.

Lugg9/12/2015, 5:51:02 PM1 votes

Garen doesn't need true damage at all. With his new kit, you can build more damage items and he is still tanky as a brick wall. You can never balance a champion that is very tanky and does lots of damage.

Gigahappytown9/12/2015, 11:29:37 PM1 votes

yeah execpt gps passive is worse than before and true damage isen't even part of why hes broken

Fiora was never "bad" though

In my mind, the straw that broke the camel's back was the Yi rework.

AP Yi was a very fun, unintended alternative build that was gimmicky but could work if you played it well and saw enough nerfs to where it wasn't the most insane thing in the world. It was on about equal par with AD Yi, where both were essentially fun pubstompers that didn't really work in high-level play but were fun to fuck around with in normals.

Then Riot took it out of the game, because it wasn't EXACTLY what they intended for Yi. It's not the only example, but it was really the turning point in my mind. The Xerath rework, the Cass rework, all completely unnecessary changes that were done solely because Riot can't stand the concept of a niche character that isn't really competitive but is still fun.

Their obsession with their game being COMPETITIVE AND HARDCORE has lead them to strictly enforce metagame to try and keep the competitive scene alive, but all it's doing is driving away everyone who just wants to play the game for fun.

The problem Riot seems to completely forget is that if you make a tanky champion have true damage, it makes him basically stronger than every similar champion that doesn't. Which creates a powercreep about who's gonna have the more ignore defense / % health / true damage. Same can kinda be said for mobility, since pretty much every no-counterplay ranged stun except Annie's is getting removed/reworked to 'add counterplay', the only way to fight mobile champions is being mobile. Mobility powercreep. That's like... obvious though. Well I guess they're fine with #LCSBIGPLAYS

Mordekaiser Where is my True damage? Oh wait I got 9x damage multiplier xD

Ralanr9/13/2015, 10:01:12 PM1 votes

Good champions have true damage. Lux does not have true damage. Therefore Lux is a bad champion until she is given true damage.

Or a better non-sequitur if I understand this right.

True damage makes champions OP. Thresh does not do true damage. Therefore Thresh is not over powered.
