AP galio is quite weak against duelist/divers

From play him and against him after the patch, AP Galio is like a glass cannon. He's strong against immobile melees, but anyone with a bit of mobility would be a nightmare for him. The shift in his damage from base to ratio, leaves him with a weaker early game where his harass doesn't hurt as much and he isn't able to clear out the wave as fast. Early game is where you want to exploit Galio's weakness. In terms of build item 3194 is a really good item against him as it provides %damage reduction against his %hp tick which is major by mid-late game.

While AP galio hits hard before hotfix, it quite easy to kill him after his W duration is down. I honestly found Ahri more annoying to play against than Galio.

Literally every mage is weak against duelist or divers Galio is strong, as he can sit in the back and throw out multiple Q's for 1-2k damage each, and dive in when necessary with damage reduction

Before his buffs though, he had a high enough base damage so his early game is able to hold against skirmishers. Now if any divers like Xin, Fiora, Tryn go all in at level 3 on him, after you bait his E, he's pretty much dead. He lacks the cd for a second Q and W won't be able to keep him alive long enough.

Riot wants that playstyle, as being an unkillable tank that deals damage with no AP was not their intention, and they wanted him to be a beefy MF mage instead

So now he is more mid than top.
