Toplane is still and island.

With the newfound importance of getting dragon(s), top lane is very much a distant island far away from everyone else. Because of this, it has encouraged junglers to virtually ignore top lane and only focus on mid and bot. If the mid laner or bot get's fed then that is a free dragon, which helps keep the momentum of that lead.

Dragon's importance has created the summoner 12 meta for top laners, because whoever gets the first dragon usually wins, and if you don't have summoner 12 then most likely you won't be able to join these teamfights. This is in its own way creating more mobility creep by favoring summoner 12 gankers, instead of snowballing champs with summoner 14. I'm not saying that I am in favor of snowball lanes instead of this, but the necessity for summoner 12 means that top is becoming more about splitpushing Fiora Tryndamere, and super cc ganking tanks Maokai Sion these are just some examples. Unless there is some other objective between top and mid besides baron, then top will always feel obligated to take teleport in favor of other summoner abilities.

I understand completely why the jungler lets me fend for myself on this island that is top lane, because everything else matters more. I wish that it wasn't that way, and that my lane had more of a point besides being the tank of the team or being an awesome splitpusher. I don't know how to fix this issue, but would like others feedback and opinions on the current top lane meta.

tldr: Top lane is enforcing the teleport meta, because of no important early objectives besides the new dragon. There needs to be some kind of new objective near top lane to give more initiative for mid or jungle to gank.

It seems to me that mid or jungle might gank top in order to get kills for mid or top and snowball them.

Also top keeps on building for mid-late game. They are usually the tanks and can split push later. If you have a fed top laner, they can be a tank that doesn't die or a strong split pusher or a bruiser/fighter that can kill everyone.

Top is still very important, as it gives more control of the map, even though dragon is on the bottom half.

Every lane is important, but top lane is by far the least important in terms of map control/objectives. Which is why top laners will be fending for themselves in most games, and why they need summoner 12 to join the actual fight across the map etc.

The problem is, top and bot lane are nearly mirrored except for the two different objectives. If you make any significant yet early objective available. You will see way too many lane swaps, because of the new objective.

Really, it's inevitable that Top lane is going to be an Island. Except for the lane swap scenario, which probably happens more often than riot should like. (at least in the LCS anyway.) And yet, because you can focus of Farm, you will likely be the most fed member on the team, and become the teams trump card.
