[Noob] Are the following Champions Good?

ItsMaybelline··1 votes·875 views

Going by how the client categorizes them

Tank: Shen, Zack. Support: Bard, Nami, Sona, Soraka, Tahm Kench, Thresh. Marksman: Draven, Kindred, Kog 'Maw, Twitch. Fighter: Jax, Warrick, Yorick. Assassin: Evelyn, Shaco. Mage: Ahri, Fiddlesticks, Heimerdinger.

Disclaimer: I'm a huge noob, so be clear when you say a character's bad because x character being obviously bad isn't obvious to me.

Shen and Zac are good. Very good indeed. Tahm is a beat weak atm, rest of those are good Kindred is kinda bad, other 3 are great (Draven requires a lot of skill tho, wouldnt suggest it to a new player) Jax and Warwick are good, Yorick is ok, niche pick A lot of people complain that Shaco is weak, Evelynn is getting rework now Fiddle is kinda weak, other 2 are great.

kindred would be great with like such minor changes like vision and making your passive works for you not against you

If your new you can make everything work, till atleast upper gold you don't have to worry about meta.

It's a matter of first finding a fighting style. One that's established then pick champs based on that style a try a bunch of them until you find a champion whose kit makes sense to you. Then play a crap ton of games with that champ. By doing so you'll become efficient w/the champ and you'll begin to learn all the matchups.

In that respect most champs you could pick will be good.

If you want META lists check out YouTube and search top champions in x lane.

Good luck.

P.s. Kindred is a marksman but typically jungles.

What are you trying to do?

Take all of these under your belt?

If so, you should categorize them into lanes played as well..

Such as.. (T) = Tank (MM) = Marksman (SUP) = Support (Fi) = Fighter (AS) = Assassin (MG) = Mage

Jungle: Zack (T) Kindred (MM) Twitch (MM) Top: Heimerdinger (MG) Jax (Fi)

etc..

These champions are okay for climbing as long as there's focused mastery involved. It's easier to tell you which champions are subpar in this list.

Yorick, Fiddlesticks, Draven, Kindred.

I say the latter 2 only because it would take a pretty great deal of effort to learn how to utilize them effectively.

Any champion can be utilized to climb to D5+

You just have to put in the work to make your style worthy of that MMR. There is no such thing as stuck for reason X, Y , or Z. Besides the only reason, you're not competent. So it's your job as a competitive player to see what's wrong with how you approach the game. Because everyone else has it figured out to the point where they can solo Q up to high MMR without fail, every time.

If your goals aren't competitive, you don't have anything to worry about in this list.

I'm not trying to learn all of them, but since i don't know how good they are i wanted to know. For all i know people have found a way to make Heimerdinger completely stall out a lane with turrets. I've been told to main a specific champ and have a secondary or two but i'm not experienced enough to know what to pick so i'm experimenting. I'm about Lv 20 if you add the Summoner ranks of all my accounts so i'm kinda just fooling around with the characters at this point to see what works, and what doesn't.

Just skimming some of the comments here, they're edging you towards recommendations for a beginner.

I think what you should look for is something that will work long term into higher MMR

What you dont want to be, is that guy stuck at the end of the season with 200 , 400 , 800 , 1000 games played with just barely a 50% win rate. And laying out a good foundation is crucial for avoiding these situations. Don't be afraid of options because you're a beginner, choose your options as if you were aiming for the top of your field.

With that being said. Champion pick is important, but game theory is vital. Being humble and submitting to your faults, while eventually correcting them will be your greatest asset as a player. In normals and ranked, no one likes to lose, I haven't met a single person who derives pleasure from defeat lmao.

Bring yourself to be aware of the basics in LoL. Then learn the ins-and-outs of your favored Champion pick. Try to conceptualize or understand why certain basic tactics could give you a significant upper hand against your opponents.

It seems a little complicated. But really it's not, it's just a matter of not being lazy with the game you're investing time into.

Think about toxic mentality, dying over and over again with little to no clue as to why, and ending your nights with defeats.

It's just sour and bitter. It's no different from learning a musical instrument or a sport, fundamentals are prioritized to be taught correctly from the beginning to avoid mishaps later on. No matter what your goal is for starting something, it's surely never to do horribly after months of practice.

Regardless, these are just my opinions. However you'd like to go about the game, is up to you. My way of approach isn't right or wrong, it just depends what you want out of this game.

This is actually very good advice. Before i played online competitive games i played a lot of fighting games like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, etc. So i unintentionally have a habit of trying to understand the system as apposed to simply what works. OF course this also means i'm kinda just free falling in LoL ATM due to how there is SO much to learn. But believe me i know how important it is to get why something works instead of what works and what doesn't. Although on the subject of a solid foundation hero pool wise, if my champ of choice is nerfed significantly should i keep playing the champ, or should i learn a new champ? Or does it depend on the severity of the nerf?

no talk jus play1 votes

Depends on the severity of the nerf I guess. You should always keep within Tier A or Tier S ( Tier S being the highest ) for your champion pool. Unless...

The exception to this rule is when you've solely devoted all your time to a single champion. Regardless even if your champion was brought down to Tier B, and you're still performing adequately there's no reason to swap just yet. But lets say your win rate has suddenly went from 54 - 60% ( over 100+ games ) down to under 50%. It's time to rethink what you need to do to reach over 50% again. Reason being is, 50% is still climbing rate, but barely, and not always.

Always look at stats. NA.OP.GG is a helpful website for that.

There have been times where champions have been taken from Tier S and brought down to the lowest Tiers possible in 1 or over a series of patches.

There are many high elo " one-trick ponies " and you're able to see how multiple patch changes indirectly or directly affect their champions play a role in their ranked ladder success. Regardless, they're usually able to manage the same ladder ranking depending on how much game theory they accumulated in contrast to just champion mastery.

A good way to keep tabs on what champions are strong, are to look at the current standings for each role.

ADC Top Mid Jungle Support

You can keep an extra eye on the roles you play.

With every patch that comes out there might be, item changes, champion changes, mastery changes ( ETC ) will play a direct or INDIRECT role in affecting the Tier list for those respective lanes.

To briefly summarize how something could indirectly affect a champion...

Let's say the current Top 4 ADCs were.... ( not actual )

  1. Caitlyn
  2. Ezreal
  3. Tristana
  4. Vayne

Ezreal's build path is drastically different from that of Tristana and Caitlyn, who have almost identical items built. For instance, Tristana and Caitlyn both build Infinity Edge as their CORE item. But Ezreal never opts for this option and his core item happens to be Tri-Force in this case for the #2 spot in ADC ( Certain builds on champions could dictate their position on the ladder )

So Infinity Edge for #3 Tristana and #1 Caitlyn. Tri-Force for #2 Ezreal.

Let's say Infinity Edge gets a significant enough buff to make the current ADCs who builds this item to rise in the Tier list. Ezreal now indirectly gets affected, even though no changes were of any relevance to him ( on the surface )

Tristana gains new strength and gets bumped to #2. Now Ezreal drops a rank since he gets out classed by the champions below him who were affected by the item change.

This applies to champion changes, item changes, mastery changes, and shifting meta picks. If suddenly a new champion came into the lime light that countered Ezreal, but not Tristana, that might change things up a bit.

Same thing with how not every ADC utilizes the same mastery keystone ( although most of them do )

It's the same idea throughout.

Jesus Christ, your like a fountain of knowledge. Thanks for the advice.

Shen - not great just ok. His kit is fine his stats and place in the meta isnt the best right now. Zac - very good. Clear is a little bit slow, not bad though. Since you max e you can gank lanes miles away. Very tanky, lots of damage, lots of cc. Basically everything a tank needs to be strong. Bard, Sona, Tahm - good supports but why play them when you can play better supports like janna or raka Nami - hard to land the bubbles at first, Otherwise somewhat good champ, but again why when u can play janna or raka. soraka - top tier only because ardent censor is to strong right now. jax - kinda bad. There are better dualists/splitpushers that are more oppressive (like fiora) Warwick - one of the better junglers right now. Good clear speed, good at ganking. Not bad in 1v1s. I cant tell you want makes him so strong.. he just is (rip) Yorick - not bad but there are better chanps Shaco - Been pretty irrelevant since his nerfs, his stats are just not great. Eve - same as shaco, eve just doesnt have good enough stats to be strong. Ahri - solid all around champ. Not op but she can compete with other strong mid laners. fid - i still dont know what role thi guy is supposed to play heim - nonono. You literally cannot win anything unless the enemies are terrible.

IME Shen is terrible for the sole reason that your ally will not understand how your protection works and will sabotage your help. I don't own Zac and I haven't played him since before he got the 'vanguard update' changes, so no comment on his current state.

Bard is fine, but has a terrible reputation. Most Nami players don't know what they are doing. She's good though. Ditto for Soraka. Thresh is solid, but difficult to learn. Tahm Kench I don't own. Sona is a weird champion. I would not recommend her, but you should still learn her because she's very popular.

I don't play Draven but he had a free week recently, IME he makes skill differences between players glaringly obvious. He seems okay. Kindred is in a weird spot at the moment, I don't own them but suspect they may be much better than they used to be. Kog'Maw is great, lots of fun, and a lot of different ways to play him. Twitch is okay I guess but he's not really very fun to play IMHO and also I just think there are safer marksmen.

Jax is fine. Warwick's ultimate is too weak IMO but he's kind of okay. Yorick seems really good although I haven't really played him since his rework.

Evelynn is fine, although I rarely play her because I fill so much and I hardly ever play champs like this. Ditto for Shaco.

Ahri seems pretty good although she doesn't feel like a normal mage to me. Fiddlesticks is one of the best champs in ARAM, haven't played him much in SR yet though. Heimerdinger is solid. The recent change to his passive seals his role as a mage and makes him a bit harder to kill.

Tanks - Shen - A great team player based champion. In a solo queue environment he is a bit lackluster as he is very team orientated but still a great champion! Top laner. Zac - A top tier jungle pick due to the amount of reliable cc and tankyness he has. Jungler.

Supports - Bard - Bard is an odd pick as you either win the game due to him or lose it due to him. His ult is one of the best as far as impacting the game goes however he requires a fair amount of practice before you'll win consistently on him. Support. Nami, Soraka, Sona - All great champions who help the carrys healthpool stay topped off while being relatively safe picks. Each of them deals some damage however nothing amazing unless you try and go strictly for damage. All are great picks! Supports. Tahm Kench - One of the best champions to main as far as winrate goes. You won't do well at first however as you get used to his kit learn matchups and so on statistically speaking you're going to win more often than you lose. He can make for a great tank top or support. Thresh - A tanky playmaking support who has well everything a support needs except a heal. A bit difficult but is very fun to play! Support.

Marksman- Draven - He is one of the best snowballing champs in the game however he is a bit difficult due to his axe catching. Draven is solely there to be a damage dealer and if you're having a rather poor game you're at a disadvantage because you technically don't get a passive until you get a kill. ADC. Kindred - Kindred is pretty bad as it stands and really isn't worth playing. They're one of the more fun and unique champions in the game but as they stand why play them when you can play something easier and get much better results. Note unlike most marksman they're a jungler. Jungle. Kog'Maw - Kog'Maw is a hypercarry with a sub par early game who simply wants to wait for the game to hit 35 minutes so he can get a few items under his belt. They're squishy and immobile making them semi team reliant however if you learn how to proper position and lane as Kog you shouldn't have to many issues. He's also amazing at shredding tanks! AP Mage Kog'Maw is also playable but is in a poor spot at the moment so it's not really advised. ADC/Mid Twitch - Twitch is an ADC who plays like an assassin. You sneak around and look for an opportunity to spray and pray all over the enemy team. He's one of the best and most annoying ADCs to deal with at the moment. ADC

Fighter - Jax - Jax is a great duelist with some decent carry potential. His ability to dodge all incoming auto attacks is great and should he get a lead can make it impossible for the enemy to return to lane. He's rare to find but a good Jax is pretty scary. Top/Jungle Warwick - A very beginner friendly jungler as far as it goes due to his absurdly high sustain via his passive. Warwick is a great champion who I'd recommend trying out if you're trying to learn the role. Jungle. Yorick - A split pushing menace who is horrid in teamfights but great at 1v1ing post level 6. You don't due to much damage without a lead or items but that's fine because at the end of the day you're going to simply afk shove a lane. He can be a bit boring but to each their own. Top.

Assassin - Shaco/Evelynn - I've clumped them together as they face the same issues. Both are really fun to play however they simply aren't worth playing over someone else right now. If you were to pick up either of these two I would advise it to be Shaco as Evelynn will receive a massive update sometime this year. Junglers

Mage - Ahri - Ahri is one of the safest midlaners there is due to her heals, mobility, and easy to land hard CC. She can play the lane aggressively due to her Q s poke and true damage or you can play it passively. She's a really good champion however she's also pretty popular meaning theres a decent chance of her being picked from ya. Mid Fiddlesticks - Fiddle is in a weird spot at the moment but is pretty fun to play. His ganks rely heavily on vision control so keep that in mind while jungling as him. You have very reliable CC via your point and click fear/silence and your jungle sustain is pretty rad due to your W draining health away from the camps. He's okay at best. Mid/Support/Jungle Heimerdinger - I don't see much point in picking Heimer over another champion in mid lane. He's an incredibly fun champion (I might be biased as a Heimer main) who excels on playing off of an enemies mistakes and can easily 2v1 post level 6 due to his turrets. He can be a bit awkward to pick up at first but in the top or mid lane he's definitely viable however he isn't as flashy as some other champions. Top/Mid
