Supports should be renamed "Controller"

A Controller (which is what Supports do anyways, they control the battlefield with CC and don't need much gold to do this) sounds WAY MORE POWERFUL than a "Support."

No one wants to be a "Support" (it connotes a secondary/peripheral status, not exactly fantasy material). No one logs into a fantasy battle game and goes... "I WANNA BE A SUPPORT."

A Controller on the other hand is someone who's calm, tactical, and controls the battlefield though strategic use of items and abilities. A Controller keeps his calm when he doesn't get the gold or the kills, he keeps in mind the bigger picture (peel, vision, CC, focus etc). He knows that he can control the game if he just keeps his calm.

No because that misrepresents the role. The entire purpose of the role is to "support" your team mates. Prevent them from dying help them obtain kills. Yes as a side-effect a lot of "control" is pushed into your role you control lane you control ward coverage you control team fights to a certain extent but it's more like steering then controlling you steer your team in the right direction but they still control what happens you just make minor corrections.

Secondary to that, we already have a "Control" role it's called mid lane where "control mages" (Such as Azir, Malzahar, Zyra) "Control" entire team fights.

Sure hte name "control" does sound better but that doesn't change what the role actually does it's what the role does that turns people off from it not what it's called. If you called mid lane "death king 1000" I still wouldn't play it and if you named support "A shit role for twats" it wouldn't make me play it any less.

I think Supports just need a little more love in the gold/item department. People don't play support as much because it doesn't feel as rewarding in League as it does in other games. Right now the only satisfying item to use as a Support is Redemption - Everything else is just meh. Then in the eSports world right now, a lot of supporting is just another AP character that has CC abilities.

Like when I play Support, I tend to most play Thresh/Braum only because hooks and actual damage mitigation and all of that feels rewarding when it happens. Flashing + Ulting as Malz doesn't feel very rewarding, in my opinion.
