None of the champions in the game really appeal to me in any way and it is slowly ruining the game for me because while I enjoy playing, playing someone you dislike is just kind of irritating over some time. Lets home this next champion is good.

Any chance you could talk a bit more about what appeals to you, in terms of gameplay, personality, appearance etc? It's possible people might be able to help you identify some champs that could resonate with you after you put a bit of time into them if they can understand what you're drawn to.

I'm not the OP but I've been looking for new junglers to play, maybe you could recommend some? I mostly play Kha'zix, ekko, a few tanks aswell I've gotten to the point where I want to find new junglers but Nothing really piques my interest.

Elewd1 votes

since you like Kha'zix/ekko. have you tried Diana jungle? shes actually a lot of fun to play and has a surprising amount of versatility in how she builds, tanky? ok. Bruiser ap? sure. Burst assassin? go ahead.

and if you want to try something really out of the ordinary, try Zyra jungle. plants tanking most of the jungle camps actually gives her pretty safe clears.

hello friend. Im not op but i have the same problem he does. No champion jumps out at me and screams play me. My favorite thing in the game is mid lane utility mages and do it all mages but honestly i feel like the game is lacking a true utility mage or a true do it all mage. The closest thing is karma and lulu for me lulu falls off to hard damage wise and karma... well we all know whats wrong with karma failed rework and all. So personally for me i would just like a real mid lane utility mage. Someone with decisions, help an ally or fuck up an enemy. Lulu and karma are close but not quite yet there

You might enjoy lux or orianna. They both bring a good amount of utility to the table but also a ton of damage.

i main lux but not enough utility

have you tried Zyra midlane? or Lulu? they bring a ton of utility for teamfights, I love zyra shes a blast to play but she plays incredibly different compared to every other mage so she may not click as easily.

I love zyra and lulu but idk they just dont feel like exactly what i want zyra not enough ulility and lulu not enough daamge a good inbewteen would be nice

i think the next best option for a lot of utility and damage is probably Orianna, but shes a lot harder to play well compared to most, but she has more utility than lux but less than lulu.

Yeah i play just about every utility mage lulu, lux, karma, orianna and sometimes even nami mid. But honestly none of them click with me

Elewd1 votes

have you tried lissandra or Kennen maybe even Anivia? im just trying to think of all the mages that can do good enough damage and provide some good teamwide utility to try and help out. Finding that one champ that just clicks with you and you just have fun playing no matter whats going on makes this game far more enjoyable. I was in the same boat before Zyra got released lol.

yeah i have tried lissandra and i do enjoy her i just dont like her lack of range and i really enjoy being able to help an ally outside of disabling an enemy so like shields and heals. If lissandra could ult an ally id probably enjoy her a whole lot more and idk kennen just doesnt click with me

Well....you can't have the utilityy of a support with the damage of a midlane carry.

Zyra

Oh look...I guess you can!

zlumpy2 votes

You could try Janna mid. Not great damage but depending on who your jungle is you could be setting up a fed assassin/bruiser real nicely. Also who doesn't love a good Janna?

BluePolarizer1 votes

Zyra mid. She has sustained damage on the level of Karthus (!!!) with the CC and burst/utility of Lux/Orianna. When I played her last season (when she was still 'bad') I often had the highest damage on the team from the support position. I can't imagine how crazy she would be in mid.

The only problem is that she is literally one of the slowest and squishiest champs in the game.

Elewd1 votes

Zyra midlane in seasons 3-5 was some of the scariest things to go up against if the zyra player knew what they were doing, always tops damage charts as well.

When I started this game I actually had a lot of champions I enjoyed, but they keep getting reworked into things I don't. At this point I don't really enjoy any of the new champions or the reworks. I've been basically reduced to playing Shaco every game, but I do fear that he will be reworked into something I dislike as well.

What I do enjoy:

  1. No skillshots. I like point and click spells. But it can't be all melee/AA point and click. I want range point and click spells.

  2. I like strong to very strong early games and am more than willing to give up late game power for it. I especially like full on lane bullies.

  3. I like my champions to have strategic depth, but not mechanical depth.

  4. Something I appreciate, but is not required is a wide variety of builds such as how Shaco can go Tank, AD or AP and be effective in each one.

  5. I enjoy dealing damage more than taking it (i.e. not the biggest fan of tanks).

Edit: 6. I forget one. No mini games. They are almost tedious and not fun.

Also past champions that I really enjoyed playing but the reworks ruined them for me: Gragas, Poppy, AP Yi, Zilean, Taric (when I needed to play Support), Garen, Veigar, Shen, and Mordekaiser.

Except garen rework made him better in all the ways you want....

The only thing he lost is his ap build.

He lost most of his early game bullying power for late game power. He also lost his damage and crit build. You can still build them but their effectiveness is way reduced.

Finally I really hate his Villain passive. In my opinion its a very poorly designed skill (i.e. no control over it plus punishes champions for doing well in a way they can't play around other than avoiding Garen). Plus I am not a fan of mini games.

Just as a recommendation, you might really enjoy DOTA. Most of the heroes there are mechanically simple once you've adapted to their lengthy attack, cast, and turn animations in comparison to League, yet there's a whole lot of strategy in hero choices, skill usage, and item builds. Not to mention, most abilities don't have proper stat scaling ( they recently added universal scaling to all abilities, but it's overall pretty minor compared to what you get in League ) and instead scale really hard with levels - of which basic abilities only have four of, so you cap them out even faster than you do in League.

Main thing I think you wouldn't like is the fact that the high mana costs to mana pool ratio means you have to be very precise when bullying your lane opponent, but there's ways to mitigate that anyway.

bistroh2 votes

I just dislike Dota 2's gameplay as a whole (not to mention the graphics)

Pantheon is perfect for you.

Just curious - what is it about targeted abilities that you fixate on so much, and why the fondness for extreme early power even if it leads to huge problems later into the game? It sounds like you enjoy champions you can relax on.

Though I am a bit baffled that one can continue to play the game and not enjoy any of the champions, I partially understand the sentiments of this player.

I play very few champions. I tried a bunch, but have not had fun playing most of them.

My champion pool has expanded a bit, but there are only a handful of champions I really enjoy playing. Still, that handful is enough to get me to continue to play the game and have a very enjoyable experience.

If I didn't find Nasus last summer when I began playing I probably would have stopped playing completely. This may however, be due to how expensive some champions are and sometimes you need a lot of time to play a champion before you can determine if you enjoy playing that champion or that role (they are two completely separate concepts).

When I was a new player, I played a lot of Shen and Warwick and got quite bored playing both. I only learned Shen because when I was learning how to play with my friends they thought that I could still have a lot of utility with my ultimate regardless, how hard I lost lane. This basically turned me into an "ult bot" and actually led to a lot of boring games for me.

I also purchased some champions that I thought I would enjoy and surprise I didn't have any fun playing them. So I burned IP buying champions I didn't have any fun playing. It would be nice that you are pre-level 30 you could return a champion for IP after so many days or games played for a refund. One of my friends even purchased me Sion to try because I didn't have IP and was getting bored with my limited champion pool.

Something I learned later is that role matters a lot too. I was put in the top lane when I started playing because I wanted to play a tank, but over time after playing other roles I realized I don't like specific ones at all. I do not have much fun playing ADC or in the mid lane. I like focusing on farming without distractions OR not focusing on farm at all. There is too much activity in the mid-lane and as an ADC their is a lot going on in the bottom lane.

I now know that I prefer farm dependent champions (in the jungle or top) or playing supports, but arriving at those preferences was a bit of a grind. If it was not for the encouragement of most of my friends who played, I probably would have completely abandoned league.

I think Riot could do a few things to lower entry barriers for newer players.

  1. Offer an IP refund option for early champion purchases
  2. A "Champion Recommendation" tab - some type of metric that gauges newer players and their preferences and later makes a recommendation to them. If Riot offered that player a trial week of that champion that would be really cool.

What I personally like in a champion is one that's kind of mysterious or just hilarious. As for gameplay I have been playing mostly assassins and have been moving into some mages such as Taliyah or Twisted Fate. The thing with assassins now is that there compared to the amount of champions overall, very few are assassins. Also, most assassins at the moment are either really broken or always banned, or just garbage all together. I think some balances with people like Zed or maybe even Akali and some buffs to some of the weaker ones could help fix this. Also, some of the assassins are just old and deserve a rework. So maybe a end of season assassin rework?

As for mages I've found myself enjoying some people like Taliyah or Twisted Fate.

And obviously I'm a mid main that does play some jungle

As for what I like personality or appearance wise, really anything honestly. I enjoy reading lore but it doesn't really affect what I think of a champion. Appearance I like champs that are just a normal person mostly or something like Azir, of course this doesn't really effect what I think of a champion and how much I enjoy them.

Also really just someone who's really hard to pick and up play but also really effective and fun when mastered as I'd like to play them and always learn.

Thanks meddler! If there is anything else you need me to answer about this I check the boards frequently.

zlumpy4 votes

I think you would like Tahm kench tbh. Zac is fun for jungle shenanigans as well as reksai. Viktor mid is fun and has a lot of variety in play style. I enjoy putting nunu mid sometimes and maxxing his bite/snow ball makes for a good sustain with burst potential. Traditional mage wise mid is kind of in a bad place imo, but you can try some anivia play focused on using the ice wall more. Some adc translate well into the mid lane as well. Nothing as unexpected as an ashe mid blasting you point blank with an ice arrow ult when it is normally globally used.

I actually just got Cassiopeia last night and I must say even though she's really hard (at least to me) playing her was probably the most fun I've had in this game in a while.

Sire Hippington3 votes

Jhin mid. Not your usuall choice, but can do really well if you put some work into it. Imo he fits the ' kind of mysterious or just hilarious' bill, and he has gameplay wise some similarities to twisted and tahya: Hes mostly abillity based, uses a mix of long and midranged abillitys, has no direct mobillity tools, and excels at roaming, though less with glonal mobillity but more with very longranged from W and ult. He also is extremly good if you play well together with your jungler, as your W alows to help him without really leaving mid.

Shaco jungle kind of mysterious or just hilarious once again, and an assasin. And just like Jhin, he is rather hard to pick up but really effective when mastered.

So basically a cooler and more fun/skill-based Talon right?

Everything you say just kinda points to a Talon rework--which is definitely needed. The character's identity and gameplay is rather stale at the moment being an extremely linear "jump on someone and press every button" champion. Not really what you'd think would be an assassin. He's more of a walking suicide bomber. Nothing about him other than his appearance really says "assassin".

Morde did appeal to me, and then you lowered his movement speed, and took away his fully self cast W. :( Still salty about that. I also loved old sion and karma. Karma's shields and heals were amazing, and sion was an actual juggernaut.

I also miss FoN, we need tank items that give a lot of MR, and armor, with movement speed, that don't rely on dealing damage like with black cleaver.

But I mean cmon. There's 140 champion.

Almost every single type of kit that can exist does.

The only one missing is a abathur type kit from HoTS.

If you dislike all 140 champs it's DEFINATLY the game you dislike and not the champs.

This raises an interesting question: will Riot ever run out of new champion ideas? Champion identity is already stretched thinly, and eventually the lines between new champions and old will begin to blur so much that creation of new champions won't serve any purpose. Everything will have already been done.

LadyRenly4 votes

I find that getting attached to a champ is a bad idea. Riot reinvents the wheel way too often, and so much changes and reworks happen that what you like is bound to get taken away from you.

I don' t see why the upvotes, the dude has a personal concern here and has the right to have one.

Have you tried this? http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/page/find-your-lunch-table-which-champs-are-friends#Gnar

It ha sa map that shows up champions that have "correlation" to each other. If some champion had a good vibe for you, but not good enough, you can help yourself with this ^_^

I'm in the same boat but for different reasons. After having played mobas for almost 10 years I have literally seen EVERYTHING. Nothing excites me anymore. Every time a new champ is announced in league or dota 2 I get a little excited but then they are revealed and they are just a rehash of things done before with a minor twist. Nothing unique ever comes out, its not really the devs fault. I've just been around too long. The only thing that really gets me going nowadays is a good skin but one of those hasn't come out that fits my taste in a long while either.

Feels bad man. [zombie-nunu-bummed]

You may enjoy Dota2 more. Some people prefer the personalities of those heroes; i don't, in general, but I do like a few such as Legion Commander. I agree with you that to some extent, you have to like the character in some way to enjoy playing as them.

The thing with Dota is while some heroes are nice, I simply don't enjoy the gameplay and how it works, same with most other mobas.

Find a champ you enjoy playing for their attitude. Old Taric had an incredibly boring kit but being able to walk around and make gay jokes all the time is a lot of fun for me. The kit matters little if you play a champ for their attitude.

bistroh2 votes

So to crap with power and kit and just go straight for lore? Welp I have a 16 hour car ride tomorrow so I guess I am reading every champion's lore.

EDIT: I love Jhin's lore and how he whispers murderous quotes while dealing a ton of damage, guess I am going to try him.
