Who is the hardest champion but most effective when mastered?

bistroh··12 votes·96,692 views

Hello, so I've been thinking I want to find a champion that is difficult to play but is amazing when mastered. Azir seems to be a pretty good one as of right now. Just want to see any recommendations for some difficult champions, thanks in advanced!

Shaco is actually a good one.

If you're an idiot and/or don't know how to assassinate, you're going to have a hard time.

Urgot

Any other answer is unacceptable.

Because now not only have you mastered a champion that requires true dedication to use, but you've also mastered a champion that 90% of all players have no idea how to play against.

Zack41252 votes

This is true. Around 80% of the community, if not more - including myself - does not play Urgot. I still know how he functions and how to counter him but most people don't. And the newer players today don't even know who he is.

That's a great answer.

Can confirm, Urgot main. Can win top against nearly anybody when played right (at least in the depths of high bronze/low silver).

also max lethality ftw item 3134 item 3134 item 3134

how can you make Noxus pay for wall though?

ZED G0D12 votes

Leblanc

EDIT: Allow me to elaborate.

The possible combinations of combos you can make with her ult make her highly flexible. From 2 dashes 2 long range pokes 2 binds A passive clone when health is low. Wall jump capability EXTREMELY high damage output with right combos Safe play ability (Can Dash in with W and do damage then jump back to your original spot using W again)

she is a bit difficult to master and get all her mechanics and combos down...but once you learn her and adapt your play style to her she is a monster of a mage

lb is not hard

He's talking about skill CEILING, not skill floor. Learn what those two things mean.

Well that's my bad I wasn't paying attention to the date, but what's your point? I have just as much a right to post as you do and I'm not wrong about what I said.

what makes lb so hard?

I mean like Eazy quick to learn.

-simple combo -simple ability -dodge skill shot easily -mobile -damage

quick easy combo to lb it like

  • Q + W

  • E + Q + W

  • Q + W + R

  • and you simply play around with the R repeat certain ability and a kill

Gangplank Shaco Zed Azir Draven Orianna AurelionSolNidalee Riven

Itadaki Seieki9 votes

Bard

If you're into supporting, anyways.

It's a really strong pick, if you know how to abuse the early game damage it brings.

TBH; It's all about timing with him, and when it's mastered it's totally spooky.

Rudolf Antler9 votes

Azir is probably the HARDEST champion to master mechanically and he gives alot of payoff when used successfully. Though I'd say zed/leblanc will give you the best payoff simply because of their ability to assassinate and get away to safety easily with great roaming and snowball potential.

10/10 would say Riven except actually mastering her now doesn't really matter anymore in this meta

Draven is # 1 ez

HolyLordFrumpuss2 votes

Yes he is his damage is insane for an advantage and he is fun. When you're playing Draven LoL becomes a minigame

grug6 votes

GP 100% over and over and over

why?

-shit lane phase -gets bullied by nearly every matchup -goes oom incredibly fast -terrible trades early game -essentially no mobility -pretty much only seen nerfs in season 6 -HIS MAIN SOURCE OF DAMAGE IS DESTRUCTIBLE -probably one of the most balanced champions in the game.

ShaolinToilet5 votes

Go can pretty much delete ADCs even without barrels late game.

Xcàl4 votes

i agree. but i wouldn't say he's harder to learn than Zed or Riven. The only high skillcap mechanic of his is using one-part, and three-part barrel combos. The rest of your list doesnt make him tough to learn. you pickup his do's and don'ts after about one game of being dumpstered. However i disagree with your statement saying he has low mobility, his r when fully upgraded with raise moral, his barrels, his boots, and the Pd and Statick shiv purchases all give him insane mobility. And you can negate his mana issue with the meditation mastery, a dorans ring or spell thiefs purchase lvl 1-5, a corrupting potion, and eventually a sheen.

DeloricVI5 votes

A lot of people will probably say Azir and I'd agree. Although LeeSin is another good one for this.

Gangplank is pretty up there even after all the nerfs he's received.

There is no other answer than Azir.

High skill floor and higher than heaven skill cap makes him a very demanding champion.

If you master Azir, games are auto GG because there's no way in hell your enemies can

Catch him Team fight against him Touch him stay unscarred by his soldiers Push

Even though he isn't played that much in competitive, he still can carry alone in solo Q where everyone loves team fighting

Other than that I think Cassiopeia is second and maybe Karthus because of his unique playstyle

MasterYi Takes incredible perpetual skill to master, you wouldn’t understand the pain of having to press r and then roll your face into the keyboard to get a penta, you just won’t understand.... did I mention Garen . I really don’t understand this champion, the mechanical skill he takes is insane, decades of practice won’t even get you one kill, you have to be pretty much a god to hit e and r on your keyboard

TheLobbyLegend1 votes

I really hope that this is sarcasm, lol. The two easy champs...

L Psy Kongroo3 votes

I'd say Cassiopeia, but she's getting reworked (again) so it's best not to try to learn her atm.

Orianna is a big one, and she can be picked along with any comp and do fine. She's very versatile.

I'll also second Shaco . If you master Shaco, you can master pretty much anyone.

Imo, My top 3 are:

3: Fiddlesticks: With all of the bursty people around fiddle dies too fast, but with a correctly played ult he can get a triple or even a pentakill.

2: Nidalee. She has a huge damage output but dies if not played correctly. Her spears are hard to land, especially in lane.

1: Urgot: If played right is the best kiter in the whole game. Takes down tanks and is really tanky but lacks mobility and burst.

Honorable mentions:

Leblanc deals eye-watering damage but dies really fast. If you get your combo off you are going to win your matchup 90% of the time.

Evelynn is hard to get to know, but then becomes really easy. She has trouble building tank and high burst, but can deal crazy sustain damage.

Champions who I think are portrayed as hard, but aren't:

Riven: All you have to do is qqq.

Swain: Has some difficulty but if you get Roa and zhonyas you can win most 1v1/2 with ease.

Katarina: Slam your head on your keyboard and you get a pentakill.

I'm not really good at aiming so I'll have to say Jhin is my most difficult champion to master but does prove very effective in-game

Matthewicee3 votes

MasterYi You require great skill to play this champ

MaggyMage3 votes

I think Udyr is the hardest champion to master and no one plays him so he never gets banned. No one is fully mastering him not even Trick2G (btw if you want to see a good Udyr player then watch Trick2G) and if Udyr is mastered i think he can oneshot like everyone. Thats my answear.

Mysticman892 votes

Vayne is the adc who first comes to mind. She's far from the 'hardest' champion in that she can be used fairly effectively without having totally mastered her, but 1v2 or even 1v3 outplays are very possible against evenly fed opponents if you're exceptionally good, and a fed late game vayne in the right hands can legit 1v5.

Most hands are the wrong hands and attempts to 1v5 will go poorly, as will 1v4s, 1v3's, and probably 1v2's, but the potential is there. (Draven is the other mechanically difficult but potentially rewarding early game alternative, where in the right hands you will snowball due to all the extra kill gold his passive produces.)

Azir and lee sin have lots of mechanically demanding stuff they can pull off if mastered too for mid/jg roles. Probably an honourable mention to Zed where some fancy shadow swapping plays can be a thing.

Bard and kench both have a pretty high skill cap for effectively using their skills to their fullest potentials. Here it's less mechanically difficult so much as strategically difficult.

I don't know much about top lane stuff these days now that I think about it. Something like riven maybe, but I really haven't played enough top lane champs to get a feel for who is really mechanically difficult in the big picture and who I'm simply just bad at.

CR4ZYRONDH4VI2 votes

I would say Azir. He is extremely strong in team fights when mastered - even after his nerfs.

Niyume2 votes

There is no champion that's hard and more rewarding than braindead clickers when mastered. Just play something like Jax, Yi, Trynd, or any ADC and you'll do infinitely more damage, and it'll be far less effort.

Why not Azir?

Because he isn't rewarding.

SithesisLord3 votes

He is, actually. An Azir with a piss poor self and soldier positioning can only hope he doesn´t feed.

An Azir with excellent self and soldier positioning can do more than just dashing behind people and shoving them under his tower with ult.

LB and Nidalee are really easy to master in comparison.
