why did they remove mana potions and wards?

Lucent Rengar··12 votes·2,940 views

what was this for again? so if you're mana dependent, fuck you. riot obv doesn't give a shit about you.

akali, zed, kat, etc all benefit so much from this removal since someone like veig, ryze, or zigs wont be to sustain in lane no more. it's really hard to win trades.

do i sacrifice mana to win trade? or do i just aa without using mana even though my abilities rely on mana?

the next topic, is wards. why did u remove wards?! for the love of god, now i support really takes all the blame for not warding. since he's the only one who would benefit from buying Sightstone.

I'm pretty sure Riot said their reasons in the Patch Notes. Read it.

Not true. Jungler gets a sightstone smite now, and some of the items help more utility tanks. Wards were removed because Riot realized that an abundance of wards- not strategic placing and zone control- was dominant. So they forced you to try with your wards. Mana potions were deleted because of how annoying it was to deal with poke champions who never ran out of mana. It forces you to think more with your abilities rather than just shooting them out. Though I do know that all the energy/no energy champs benefit from this. Expect off handed nerfs soon.

Good luck finding a jungler that gets SS in yolo QQ.

I cry every time I go into yolo QQ. Don't worry about me.

Not true in the slightest. A ton of champions who relied on mana got base mana and mana regen buffs, enough to where you don't go oom after two rotations. If you are still having mana troubles the mastery easily clears that up. The removal of mana pots is actually a benefit because:

  • You don't have to waste money on mana pots

  • The regen and base mana buffs allow you to start with either a Doran's Ring or Long Sword, allowing you to win early trades

I play Talon a lot, and flask was my go to start. Now I run the mana regen mastery and that, along with the mana buffs he got, allows me to start with a longsword so I can easily win trades and poke the enemy. There are more upsides to the removal of the pots than downsides, you just don't see it.

I'm glad they removed mana pots and clarity. Teaches more noobs how to manage their mana better. Kappa.

Lucent Rengar1 votes

im sure it does. cus the biggest noobs use yasuo, zed, KAT, and akali lol. ooh and riven. yup. lots of mana use, lots of mana management kappa

ZachGrady4ever1 votes

I mean... yasuo, zed, and riven take skill by themselves. Even with kat you have to have a LITTLE skill to position yourself good in teamfights to make sure you don't insta die. :p

And I don't even realize how people run OOM on Veigar once they have Chalice. I mean, that combined with passive... pffff...

God forbid the mana gated mage is ACTUALLY mana gated and not able to bypass it with 150g. Wards aren't gone from the game either. Pink wards are cheaper, junglers are taking up a whole lot of warding with the new trackers knife, the upgraded wards are free??

Here's the thing though; not ALL mana users are equally gated by mana. Even on supports I have yet to see an OOM Braum or Thresh, but bitch if I heal twice in a row with Sona prior to item 3092 it's like the end of the world in my blue bar. Mana potions helped champions like her keep up with more recent champions whose mana costs are a lot more forgiving.

I usually play Leona so i know what you mean, i'm basically never oom on her ever in lane. But any time i play Lulu Janna or Lux pshhhh one spell rotation and there goes all my mana. I like it that way though, it means when i'm matched up against a Lux Jinx lane it's no longer gonna be 10 minutes of Lux Q's over and over and over and over. Meanwhile my bae Soraka has insanely awesome mana usage especially with item 3098 but shhhh don't tell anyone, i'm not tryna have a banana party in the bot lane every game of blind pick that i play.

They added in a mastery in a proper spot for a TON of mana regen (chalice passive). You don't even have to dedicate yourself down through an entire tree to get it.

An unintended consequence, I'm sure. What you point out is correct though; supports are the only ones (aside from the occasional jungler) who buys a sightstone and those wards last longer early game than trinket wards which seem to scale with level. This only serves to put even more responsibility and pressure on a support's back, as opposed to even last season.

Again, unintended I'm sure, but still a consequence we have to deal with.

Here's the thing; back in season 1-2-3 people bitched the supports who didn't ward "enough" but the supports actually had the capacity to ward the whole map. With a 3 (4 with pink) wards limit per player, the complaining when all my wards are already out isn't going to put more vision on the map. You're just stressing me out. Especially when I go in the post-game details and omg surprise the guy who bitched had his yellow trinket all game long and placed 2 wards in 40 min.

The best part is when people think they're entitled to telling me where to put my wards. Butt the F out. If you want a ward at that specific spot, and I'm telling you "capped", that's because I want my wards to stay were they are, and you freaking place down your trinket where you want (bonus point if that comes from that one guy who never wards ofc).

I started in the last season when supports could still ward more than 3/4 times and god...I miss those days. To this day I'm still salty about the ward limit.

When playing with friends they would help ward some but it made no difference with random players, and since all I can control is myself and my sightstone I'd rather just do it myself to ensure we win.

All of the little nerfs to vision they did (trinket, sightstone nerfs etc) just have me bummed out. It's terrible but that 60% of players have really screwed up the game for the rest of us.

They removed mana pots so "it's easier to balance champs".

On the other hand, they removed green wards because "no one buys them", while forgetting the fact that item 3361's early game was gutted.

Or just go fish for patch notes and preseason "sneak peek" and you'll find your answers there.
