High elo players, please give a bronze some tips.

Tl;dr: every build I tried was unsuccessful. I'd like to know how to itemize more efficiently. My playstyle is generally play passive early and focus cs, push objectives, and help laner once I build power.

I just played a game against Voli top as Mord (surprised?), and here's how my landing phase went:

(Was trying mobility quints on Mord this game) -focused farm -poke with e and w -got first blood against voli -immediately gank ed by yi -my jungler comes -I kill yi -voli TPS back to lane, throws me back under tower, kills me. -I go back into lane, voli and I get ult, voli ccs me, ult me and melts me. -I see he had MR and AD, so I build an AD item and Magic Penetration (Duskblade for if he would later build armor and high AD in case Magic Pen didn't work, Magic Pen was Liandries) -Commenced to get shredded by Voli and his ult, built Boots of Swiftness much earlier to not be slowed as much. -yi and voli take tower. -I take enemy top tower while voli is busy bot side. -Destroyed by Voli again. -Seeing the enemies where mostly AD, I stack armor. I end up having Thornmail, Randuins, Zoynayas, Deadmans, Boots, and Liandries. -Still melted later, and could barely 1 vs 1 yi defending inhibitor tower(not that I think he's OP). -With dragon ghost, I had 4300 hp and a bunch of armor plus dragon, and was still melted in teamfights. -Traded Randuins for Rylias. -Switched to juggernaut build: Steraks, Deadmans, Rylias, Liandries, Boots, still melted.

Every full build I tried failed, even the armor stacking with thornmail. I had over 300 armor and over 3 k hp without dragon!

Maybe it's because I was a bronze player, and I'm terrible, but all game voli focused me, threw me around, and was melted afterwards no matter what build I had-- pure tank, juggernaut, tanky bruiser, high AP.

Tips and critiques from high elo Mordekaiser mains are very much welcome.

And I have level 7 mastery on Mord, but I feel tips to itemizing would help me get back out of bronze this season.

Don't listen to me, I am just a woody normal with Mastery five champions. Higher masteries are not for me, nor ranks. Volibear has a weak laning phase, just stay away from tower next time and don't overextend. Just take your time playing it out. Later in game I make sure to stay in team fights and not engage alone against Voli, because of his high damage.

My build usually is Rylai's, Randuin's Omen, Spirit Visage, Mercury's Threads, Warmog's and thornmail, sometimes abyssal scepter. Don't know if this is good or anything, but it seems to work enough.

ATM top is like pick to win. You may be countered, you may be destroyed. But when your champ is Rumble, Wukong, Kennen, Irelia, Jax, Gp, Trundle or any of juggernauts - your win chance is higher about 30% than any other pick.

I don't feel like Morde is in a great spot anyway. With the current state of things, Yi should be able to pretty much destroy Morde 1v1 everytime, once he has like botrk. I feel like Volibear is stronger as well. With your obvious lack of mobility as Morde the problem is it's hard to not be forced into all ins. What can I say? Your game seemed pretty long that you got to buy all those different items and change those, try never doing that until you're full build. I'm not a huge Mordekaiser player , but I did play some games with him. In any case, an advice I would give you would be to look for guides on probuilds. In any case, if you want to theorycraft a build, think about the synergies. Let's take Duskblade as an example. Morde has one of the highest base AD of the games, and he has a total AD scaling on his E and Q, but also a lot of AP ratios. His shield and E are based on max HP for defensive steroids. (tbh his kit is kind of a mess but let's ignore that) When you see it, you gotta think : how to better optimize it? I don't think Duskblade is great because it has only one scaling with Morde which is AD, it grants armor pen which has NO effect on Morde's Q and other abilities. Gives MS which is fine but still, I don't think it's enough synergies to take it. Well morde isn't the easiest one to build of course because he has all those weird scalings. First go on probuilds, see what people use and try to understand why. Let's see some items that have a lot of popularity :

item 3116 : a bunch of AP scaling, HP pool to help with the shield and most of all the slow helping not getting kited. I think it's pretty much core, not much to explain there. item 3152 : AP scaling, huge burst (Protobelt is actually kinda OP atm and Riot seems to think the opposite), cdr is nice (you'd like to be capped with morde but there are sadly few items that give cdr and stats that Morde wants) item 3001 : THE MAGIC RESIST SHRED. Forget about the MR (though it's good) this item is made for squishy killing. it reduces the mr of your opponent by a lot making it easy to crush low magic resist targets ESPECIALLY SINCE Morde's damage is all magical. He has AD ratios as well, but the abilities deal MAGIC damage. Consider this when thinking about runes (magic pen seem very good), and potentially even get sorcerer boots. item 3151 : health for the passive, and more magic penetration, also synergy with rylais. item 3146 : since you have both AD and AP scalings, an item giving both is pretty good. Also the slow, and adds a new AP scaling and sustain based on your damage output, so it has higher synergy with high damage/AP builds.

Now ofc you need some resistances if you want to be a tanky Morde. Since you have synergy with health, I suggest health + armor items. item 3742 item 3143 item 3056 ( <- weak right now, but the stats do synergize well so if the item was slightly better statwise it'd be great for morde) for magic resist i already talked about item 3001 , consider item 3065 (synergy with healing, health and cdr !)

Soo that's pretty much it, if I was in your place seeing as I'm against Voli I'd probably either have gone for not facing him and get a squishy bursting build and try killing other people than him, take 1 armor item not to get completely destroyed : item 3116 item 3020 item 3157 item 3001 item 3152 + something else depending on their team (possibly one of those item 3135 item 3089 item 3151 ) or go tankier and specifically to go against him item 3116item 3742 item 3143 item 3053 item 3001 + item 3047 or item 3020 ).

In any case, I don't think Morde is in a good spot rn, so I don't find it particularly surprising that it's hard to beat strong 1v1 champs or actually be useful in a teamfights except if you get a good ghost like an adc, due to how easily kited you are.

As a sidenote, I have tried item 3078 on Morde as an experience thinking it would be pretty good for his Q, since the high attackspeed and the CDR would allow to spam it, but I haven't had much success (especially since it's mostly good for the Q and early game maxing W is stronger). Maybe try it as a lategame purchase if you have a tanky build otherwise, could actually work out (and it grants nice mobility)

Usually, what works at high elo doesn't work at low elo. Just take a look at the Mid Yi crisis from a few years back. It's probably better to just continually experiment until something does work. Or rather, to ask other low elo players who have a little more success. :)

(This is also one reason League is a terrible game now. Riot has overtuned everything for high elo play because pros, and as a result, low elo play is very unbalanced.)
