Why does gromp buff apply Liandry's torment?

When reading the passive for Liandry's this effect should apply to spells only. Its not a problematic build path that I have experienced but I would imagine Amumu or Zac paired with a thornmail would make any adc destroy their self if auto attacking more than once. Can someone please explain the technical reason for gromp applying liandry's is it working as it should or not?

It does? That's kinda cool! I really hoped for some kind of synergies with item 3075 & item 3165 , but gromp + item 3151 (because Liandry can proc item 3165) are also cool :D
