It's just a formality really, riot being sore losers. They designed Morde to be a duo laner yet nobody wants to play him down there anyways. The rework was a flop and people still play Mordekaiser in a solo lane, and riot even went as far as to buff his solo prowess to please these veteran Mordekaiser players.

We all know and love Riot, they're really stubborn and still try to advocate duo lane Mordekaiser, which ultimately wasn't that great of an idea. They'll come to their senses preeeeetty soon^^

No, they are still working on making him into a bot laner. Ghostcrawler said as much himself on a community Q&A stream last week. I know because I asked the question.

As a long time WoW player, I was worried when I heard GC was on his way to League. I'm pretty sure he's responsible for the new Mastery trees if that's any indication of why people are afraid of his presence. Ever since their introduction, things have been hard to balance and pin down, which is pretty trademark for GC's involvement on a project.

Riot used to officially define marksman as people who can put out consistent DPS from a distance. Hence Azir is a marksman. So yes, Morde is no marksman and rito is drunk

Unless riot does some serious buffs to item 3094 , playing a melee champion as a marksman is not possible.

Morde can't be a marksman for the same reasons why Yi and Tryndamere can't.

Don't tell me it can't be when I actually did it, mate... I had a 55% winrate, despite all the guys like you flaming me and the perplexed supports that didn't know how to do their job and adapt to a new champ. And I didn't play him during the 2 or 3 patches where he was OP.

No. You can't play him as a marksman.

No item build or playstyle can transform him into a ranged DPS champion.

Can he go bot as a carry? Yes, but he is as far from a marksman as you can get.

I think they did that for a possible feature with the new champion select, where each champ goes to a lane that riot determines suits their role and/or champion, in order to reduce the possibility of trolls.

Question:

If Morde's not a marksman, you should probably tell the people that make the champion tags. He's currently labelled as one in the PBE.

Answer:

Yeah, that was a bit of a misunderstanding with the noble attempt to try to make it easier to find a potential bot lane champ. Forgive me if I sound like I am repeating myself, but we're trying to get away from the notion that lane and class are interchangeable (like mage = mid). In the interim, there isn't a good way to filter for "dudes who might do okay mid." In Morde's case, we need a way to say "What are reasonable options for bot?" without having to call Morde a Marksman, which I think is weird.

Riot is trying to show players that you don't need a ranged marksman to play the role of marksman. The role was originally called adc and adc is just basically the role of having high damage dps build and has evolved to become a ranged marksman because it is more efficient to keep a champion alive if they are attacking from afar rather than in the frontlines while being squishy. Generally ap champs are usually bursty cooldown based champs rather than dps which is why ap champs aren't regularly played as the role marksman. Although, there are champions who could fit the role such as teemo or kayle as they have auto attack abilities that scale with ap for decent dps much like a marksman. In the end though, the objective of a marksman is just to deal tons of damage as much as possible consistently. Meaning you don't actually have to be a ranged marksman to fill the role of marksman.

Marksman was the class, not the role. Morde is an ADC (position/role) not a Marksman (Class)

Fair enough if i got the term wrong. But if marksman isn't a role then why is it that under his roles it says marksman? It says primary and secondary role, not class. And under the roles he is a marksman. That clearly means marksman is a role

At the end of the day, they put down that he is a marksman so you can play the role of marksman regardless of whether you wanna say marksman is a class or not. Riot is trying to encourage mord filling the role of adc by having it say marksman on his roles. End of story. I don't know how much more simple these can be told.

See now I dont like your logic here. Yes we know "WHY" they did it but whether it was a sensible decision is the question here.

Riot is trying to promote variety bot lane by trying to crowd out marksman in favor of other thing, Morde being a prime example.

It is then rather contradictory and defeats the purpose of the thing you are trying to push to call the champ a marksman when the whole point was to say "hey. you can play things other than Marksman" as an ADC.

Well people are gonna like or dislike. I mean I like the fact that riot is supporting the idea of doing other things. I understand that it is more likely you have a higher chance of winning with a team comp of a support and ranged marksman bot lane, but then the chances of winning as something wierd like pantheon jarvan bot is not a zero percent. And it's a game after all, people should be able to try new things and have fun instead of get punished for not playing the way everyone wants you to play. Where there's a will, there's a way. And there's more than one way to win.
