New Champ Select is WONDERFUL - QQ all you want we NEEDED this!

Its beautiful

It cuts down on arguments in champ select

It allows me to narrow my focus and not have to be amazing in 5 roles...understanding each role and knowing all the matchups are not the same thing. It can be very difficult and stressful when you are in your promos and forced onto an uncomfortable role, and you end up laning against someone you have never played against before.

Most important point. There will never be a League of Legends 2. This game HAS to move forward. It has to look different, feel a bit different, and slowly evolve into a "next in series" or "Gen 2" game. In League 2 I imagine there would be an evolved champ select, prettier client menus, different masteries and different items...maybe even a different MAP????????? New stories, new modes, new Q's??? That is all Gen 2 stuff. If league stays stagnate and does not evolve IT WILL DIE! If you care enough about the game to complain and try to get Riot to make significant game changes, then you need to allow League to creep its way into 2016 and forward.

The only way to stop tomorrow is to die today so you never see it...do you really want league to die?

EDIT:

Riot made me sad There will be a solo q only AND dynamic Q

So basically you have two choices...play with your friends for a meaningless ranking OR play all by yourself so people you have never met can go "damn hes Diamond?!" I dont know man...sounds sketchy to me.

New champ select is phenomenal for what it is, draft + ranked. Beautifully done and a complete upgrade from what those things both were before.

However, it is not a suitable replacement for Team Builder.

I remember riot saying that a similar system is coming for team builder. ( Blindpick )

Moei5 votes

Sadly I can only imagine that system feeling like the current blind pick. It will not fill the void of teambuilder.

Kürama4 votes

The New Blind Pick experience will require you to choose 2 roles and you'll get one of them. It won't be a rush to type your role.

EXACTLY! Bring back team builder. The que dodging is real, and it getting really, really old.

At least in team builder you did not have to look at your LOL screen the entire time you waited. This is stupid, I have to build 5 teams just to get one game to start because of all the que dodging.

Libermann7 votes

This. Removing myself from the situation, the new queue is good for league, I know and understand this. My problem is that it completely screws me over as a player. I go onto league with a specific champion and lane in mind. That is what I want to and intend to play. Only that. Teambuilder was my dream come true in it's complete and utter entirety. I could work on and practice a specific champion day in and day out forever without having to deal with the problems of blind pick. Now with the new queue, all I want to do is that. I queued multiple times in the past hour or two and only got my primary role maybe twice out of 5-7 queues. I don't even necessarily want Teambuilder back, I just want a 100% guarantee that I will get my champion and role every time. Teambuilder did that, and that's all I ever wanted in league. Now it's tossed out and I'm at a loss. I don't care if I would have longer queue times. I have that right now. Except I have no assurance that I will get what I want. I don't play league first and foremost for the team. I play for myself. I don't enter a queue thinking "How can I help my team?". I enter thinking "I want to play X champion in Y position." This new queue makes that impossible. I am new to Ahri. All I want to play right now is Ahri mid, so I can practice and get better at her. Making me split my chances between two roles makes practicing a champion, especially if that champion only has one truly effective role, almost if not entirely unreachable.

Please Riot, bring back Teambuilder. If that can't happen, put a "single role only" function into the current queue system, or something similar. I can't understand why the Normal, casual queue system has to force you into two roles. The system in it's current state is great for ranked, but it makes little if any sense in Normal Queues where people just want to play the champions they want, and have some fun doing it.

First time using it we actually discussed strategy and people even opted to change their intended champs for a better comp. it was beautiful.

We make the meta riot doesn't do anything. Even pros could pick the lowest win rate champion in the game and best the highest win rate champion With it lol I play w.e champion i want!

Game theory teaches that the rules of the game define the optimal strategy. Riot creates the game rules, therefore defines the optimal strategy, therefore defines the meta.

The Lord Cookie13 votes

Don't care about the new champion select.

Queue'ing as a premade for the solo queue ranked ladder shouldn't exist. It's a horrific change. That's all anyone is complaining about.

S H A Y C 07 votes

You have it all wrong friend. A SOLO Q has no business existing in a 5v5 TEAM game. You cant win if they dont play, so what about this is "Solo"?

shabingi6 votes

Some people don't have 5 friends that are of similar skill level. I'm 28 and not really that interested in spending time finding internet "friends" or joining some gaming clan to play this game. If riot wants to alienate people like me (who also actually have money), then that is their choice.

S H A Y C 03 votes

Im 31 and don't feel alienated in the least...also have money. you dont need 5 friends in any q, just picking on your math for a second, but Riot said the system is supposed to match you against a similar grouped team so it isnt 1+1+1+1+1 vs 5 man squads. Whether its working correctly TODAY i dont know, but that is what they are going to work towards.

Global Huff3 votes

If 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 is not going to get matched up frequently vs 3+ man squads....then why not create a separate ladder for that????

Orangutantrum2 votes

I agree. We should go back to the 3-person and 4-person ranked queues for Summoner's rift from last season.

Team Builder is a dinosaur compared to this new champ select. It improves on everything Team Builder couldn't deliver.

Team Builder had to be dropped as a mode. Way too many funnels for people to go into = long que times.

But that's the thing, queue times weren't that long for TeamBuilder. The longest I ever spent queuing solo in TB was about 5 minutes, & keep in mind I main Mid if I'm playing solo (& Mid is the second most popular or popular role in TB depending on the night).

If you were setting up a team with only one friend & you guys only chose Top & Mid, then yes it could take longer, but even in that case the longest I spent waiting was about 10-12 minutes.

The thing is, the people who played TeamBuilder KNEW they were going to have longer wait times, & we were okay with it because we knew we'd get the one role we wanted to play that match with the champ we wanted to play.

TeamBuilder coexisted with Blind Pick & Draft Pick. This new champ select IS a suitable replacement for Draft Pick, however it is not (nor does it seem like there will be) a suitable replacement for TeamBuilder.

Couldn't agree more!

I used to wait, LITERALLY, 4-6 sec for a game as support, every time, and now is like i have to wait all the new processes and it's kind of like annoying =/

Delofasht6 votes

Glitches aside, which I've yet to experience, the new Champ Select is excellent for ranked. A slight modification for it for normal blinds will allow for a near perfect rendition of the teambuilder experience, the difference being a need for the ability to leave the team before matchmaking without forcing everyone back into queue. The way to do this is to set it to not find an opposing team until the team is fully built in blind mode. Also for team building you'd need to be able to select only one role and champ, then done.

Those changes make this champ select work just like the teambuilder and you still get to keep the cleaner interface. By replacing both teambuilder and blind picks with a modified version of this the different queues no longer struggle against each other thus making each one longer. It also doesn't put the power to kick a member in the hands of one person, instead if several people don't like a specific champ that joins their team they can just leave it it shuffles new players into those spots as needed. Performing offmeta team builds just requires the coordination of the groupies, not hard, just different.

So, keep up the great work Riot, now that we have this done can we get the reworks on Taric, Yorick, and Urgot done soon? I'd love to play them again, but they are kind of stale right now.

I've yet to be able to play a game with it. I've done 3 select screens though: 1 - last three picks banned the previous 2 picks our did had chosen (which were non-standard bans anyway) - someone left. 2 - Exact same thing again (one of the guys was the same from the previous screen - someone left. 3 - Happened a THIRD time (this time I picked a diff champ to see, still happens) so I repicked and then the client booted me from champ select and said I left the game so it gave me a time-out.

^^ other then you need to confirm your champ pick 2-3 times before RIOt will fucking believe you

People aren't upset over have a new select system. People are upset over the imbalance of having 3+ people on a team in ranked being on par with random solo players or teams of 2. The issue isn't having a pretty looking select screen. It's putting unorganized play on the same level as organized 5's.

Dread Pirate Jah4 votes

QQ? It's premades VS randoms....and it is a matter of opinion....of course...but is it really fair to be matched up with a team that practices all the time...alll in voice....and you got the shen that rage quits at 5 minutes??? or the wonderful god duo bot lane...that always seems to lose??? give me a break and go back to world of warcraft...kthx

League will die when there are an absolutely unruley amount if champions that cannot be meaningfully balanced. No game can survive having 250+ characters that are each supposed have their own niche. No game can survive having 150+ mini-games because they keep adding them to every new champion. At some point a LOL 2 becomes necessary if only to pare down the roster to a manageable amount. Otherwise the community will slowly dissipate as the state of balance becomes increasingly erratic. The reveal of the latest new champ puts us a patch closer to this end.

Skim2 votes

It's good for ranked I will agree with that but doesn't have a place in normals. A system like team builder was much more enjoyable for someone who isn't intrested in banning and counterpicking when just trying to play with friends and have fun. Bring back teambuilder!

AninLegions7772 votes

As usual people are short-sighted. Yes this cuts down arguments in champ select although this is quite rare in ranked. And this basically was one of the things I got used to in the game mode.

Narrow your focus by being a one-trick pony? So how does this make you good at the game in general? Pros became pros by being diverse that's how they can change their primary lanes at any time. Even when watching pro streams, they are so flexible and excel in other roles. That's what makes the game enjoyable. Not just spamming mid all the time cos you can.

The game has to move forward, yes but in a good way. For one, there should be a limit to the amount of time someone spams a role in a day. There should be diversity in ranked. That's why when you finally get that shiny Diamond border, you can say "I deserve this".

Also, the addition of full premades to ranked is just an unnecessary move. I mean we already have ranked teams. What use is there for this? Duo was enough. There's only so much change that should be incorporated (removal of teambuilder). It should be done in phases. They could have introduced the new champ select and collected data to know how it fares compared to teambuilder. Then they use that data to make a decision. That's how a company should work.

TLDR: In the long run, you'll see the effect this has on ranked when you find unqualified people in high elos. Then you'll complain and I'll link this thread back.

PS: If you are wondering, "New champ select hasn't even hit EUW yet so why is he talking about it?", well I used it on PBE.

Sammystorm2 votes

This sums up my opinions on the matter nicely.

Stillname2 votes

I get the argument that 5v5 premades and playing with random people don't need to be in the same queue but a limit to the amount of time someone plays the same role? Why? They need to not enjoy their experience half of the time when they don't get the role they like? Why do people have to be good at more then one champ if that's all they like?

I am seriously asking. I see no reason why someone should HAVE to play more than one role or even more than one champion for that matter.

AninLegions7772 votes

Well you HAD to because it made you a better all-round player. Back in S3, I only knew how to play lucian ADC but after finding out that the role wasn't a sure thing, I started learning mid and jungle. Top and Supp were the worst roles for me but I knew I had to learn them so I started taking them in blind pick until I had achieved a level good enough for ranked. That being said, diversity made me good at the game. It helped me to be flexible and best of all, it allowed me to enjoy ANY role I got in the game. It's so fun being able to play a large pool of champs instead of being limited to 10--20 champs.

Now you can just pick mid all the time and win if you are really good. I believe, in due time, that people will get bot of the monotony of that mode and then they'll come here to voice their minds.

Jabberwöcky2 votes

I played one match last night after it got rebooted up.

I chose my roles as Jungle, or Support.

I got Jungle surprisingly.

We went into it, everyone WAS going to go some form of AD type champ, What we wanted originally was MasterYi (me), LeeSin (top with smite), Talon (mid) and Tristana Thresh bot.

I talked talon into going AP mid, with no effort. He said sure i main ahri mid, so no problem, ill adapt to the team. Was real cool, never had a team actaully work together in champ select.

Then in game, our lanes had a rough start, but once i started ganking at 6-7 minutes, i made everyones life easier, the only guy who had a problem was lee top vs the teemo, who was destroying him with the Kha camp, but in return, i stole all Khas camps, Dragons, and bot and mids turrets.

All n all, we had a great game, i finished strong, got my lanes fed up, and most importantly, no one yelled at each other, we all helped each other.

AninLegions7771 votes

I had tons of games like this before this queue came out. 2K games and about 1.7k were like this. If you weren't doing well, you think they wouldn't have yelled? Oh trust me, they would.

AbusingMyRights2 votes

It is awesome for a fill main because I don't have to sit there and have no one type anything and just assume what I should take. Now its like, "you are jungle".

Kind of makes off meta picks impossible tho.

Adonna2 votes

I think you're delusional and that's putting it nicely. It may work for Gold and below but anything higher is an atrocity. Trying to watch Challenger+ players on Twitch is impossible - their que times are up to or OVER an hour, I really feel for these guys and even players below them who are struggling just to get into a game. And this is how a lot of them make a living - Riot is killing these tiers and shutting them down.

On top of this, it's not solving anything because NO ONE is required to pick the champion/role that they signed up for. I've started to see players just choosing whatever role they wanted in the first place and then saying "fuck you". Also, if you're trying to play something off meta or someone doesn't want you to play that champ, they'll ban it out from their own teammates. Both of these scenarios are leading to some serious trolling and raging.

And your point of 'moving forward for league,' you obviously don't understand what a game company or a release has to do in order to be competitive. This broad and reaching statement is just bogus. Riot needed to fix the game in general and increase the quality of play; replays, sandbox mode, new client, quality of life changes (moving rune pages around, bugsplat properly working, etc). Instead, they've pumped out new skins, champs, maps and pushed e-sports as their game is SHOWN to be buggy, broken and downright unplayable, both in solo, ranked and competitive play. Without a base game that is stable, everything they are doing now is adding blocks to something that will eventually tumble.

I, for one, don't want league to die off, but Riot really needs to start listening and following through with things if they want to keep their players. We say, 'please fix x - it's bugged right now' and Riot hears, 'OMG THEY HATE THIS! we need to destroy it and completely rewrite it. Oh and yea what about adding this too. Well they didn't say they wanted this PERSAY but they WILL WANT IT, WE WILL MAKE THEM WANT IT, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER.'

Release XX shit and the community goes - 'thanks but can't you just fix x? it was fine th-' 'NO YOU WILL LISTEN MASSES - YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT SO WE'LL TELL YOU! WE ARE RIOT - YOU ARE NOTHING' Eventually, the community gives up complaining because it's obvious that Riot won't change their mind on the subject and because players love the game, they learn to deal with it. It's just a sad mess.
