I just discovered another reason why being Support is pretty damn terrible at times.

TL;DR - Your ADC leaving during the early laning phase basically puts you in a 3 v. 5 situation rather than a 4 v. 5 due to the Support's dependency on their ADC to get Gold/Experience during laning.

Look at my latest match. Our Draven fed like no tomorrow and eventually simply quit the game without saying a word. Now the problem was that this was before even a single tower had fallen; we were still in the laning phase - and as a Support, I can't do anything without a partner. They tower dived me, they obviously got more CS than me and eventually crushed two bot towers. As a result I was even more levels behind than what is traditional for a Support so when we finally got to the team-fight stage of the match, I couldn't do anything either due to lack of levels/items.

because it doesn't go the exact same way if the support feeds and then abandons ADC?

at least the support has utility so even if they can't get all the farm they still provide CC and heals for their team. an ADC with no support will do absolutely nothing because they'll get 1v3'd every time they show up and then have no farm to scale with.

Way to just instinctively jump to the defense of a imaginary assault on ADCs without even trying to read and understand my post, bro.

And no, it is not the same. An ADC who is behind can still sneak in CS here and there. A Support without any offensive runes, masteries or items stands a snowball's chance in hell of getting anything done on their own during laning. You're literally being pushed back by minion waves because your kill speed is so low.

The ADC can catch up. The Support can not and remains nothing but a liability.

A support can catch up through utility. Even Alistair is useful if all he can do is land is WQ combo.

No he can not. Not during laning phase. This specific issue occurred because I as a Support had to lane alone. Had we moved on to mid-late game when Draven ragequit, a wandering Braum can do a lot of nifty things. One still locked to his bot lane trying to defend it alone, not so much.

The game doesn't end in laning.

I feel like neither of you actually read the opening post, honestly. And I can tell that Lincoln never touched a Support champ in his entire life. During laning (which is what this thread is all about, not mid or late game) the relationship between a Support and ADC is very much symbiotic.

There is always talk about how the Support feeds the ADC with kills, but not much is said about how the Support is depending on the ADC to do the same.

To be fair, Alistar is about the best support at playing from behind thanks to the effectiveness of his W Q combo followed up by ultimate. Leona will not do as well. Morgana will probably still provide some good utility as she just needs Q and E to provide a ton of utility (her ult can be a great asset as well, but that snare tho). Any melee will suffer greatly, and eventually even utility is outscaled when you're down 5 ranks in your utility spells. They just don't provide the utility they need to thanks to being out damaged (and blowing through your shields or heals) or Tenacity etc. tldr; Don't be a melee support who is behind if you're not Alistar. :)

taric can work pretty well from behind given his ult.

he won't be tanky at all, but he functions.

See you literally have no idea what this thread is even about.

"sneak in CS here and there" is not shit for an ADC's build.

a support doesn't need gold to function; they are automatically better off than the ADC from this alone. a support can just roam and try to make up for the deficit by helping other lanes; an ADC cannot do this because they do not have nearly the same utility or gold-independence.

supports aren't "dependent" on their ADC all game. stop with this shitty meme; supports are there for the whole team.

Pick a support you have fun with, I always pick Nautilus and even if my ADC death counter is so long it goes from MIlan to Timbuctù and goes AFK after flaming at least I get to have fun for 20 minutes showing the enemy some magic trick with my anchor.

I've learned to play a support that can carry an ADC not as a defensive but as an offensive.. Like Karma, Brand, Hell Morgana if you wanna just be able to say you are helping him. >_> Never trust your laner...just take what you need.

The trick is to play Braum/Leona/Thresh and roam when you get bored. People don't see it coming in solo queue, they're used to most supports not knowing how to play the role.
