400-500 AD Rengar everywhere, with superhealing and built-in Olaf ult.

Did I ever thank you for removing Normal Draft from my server, Rito? Because thank you a whole bloody lot for that!

It's technically true. People in another country can't play it right now.

EUNE; so us poor Scandinavians and the Poles basically.

Isn't that what this whole post is about? That Draft pick was disabled on EUNE? Riot removed Draft and is forcing your server to play Blind pick instead of Draft. Now you're telling me that Blind pick is also disabled, in addition to Draft pick.

SanKakU above stated that Blind pick was disabled in certain countries. I now understand what you mean by "literally unplayable". I was previously unaware that both Blind pick and Draft pick has been removed from EUNE. My apologies for the confusion.

Well, technically it is correct, as Merriam-Wesbter and Cambridge dictionaries have added the informal, non-literal usage of the word as part of the definition.

hhaavviikk7 votes

so basically it's been added as a definition because too many people used the word the wrong way, doesn't seem like a dictionary should work like that

Agent209011 votes

Language works like that, really. Dictionaries just try to keep up with the lexicon.

Language evolves, dictionaries follow.

Like the word "autumn" for example. It was quite literally (the literal definition) a made up word. Now it describes an entire season.

But we already have a word that means what literally has come to be used for: figuratively, to which literally is a counterpart. Sure, language can change, but this particular change is a bit counterproductive.

But we already have a word that means what literally has come to be used for: figuratively, to which literally is a counterpart. Sure, language can change, but this particular change is a bit counterproductive.

Language is about ease of use, for the most part. To say what you want to say with the most ease. "Literally" rolls off the tongue a lot better than "figuratively". It also gives more impact.

"I am literally starving right now" versus "I am figuratively starving right now".

The -for lack of a better word- accepted meaning of the word, as well as the sound of the word, helps gives the emphasis and impact to the statement. You hear someone say the former you think, "okay, this person is very hungry." You hear the latter, you kind of tilt your head in confusion at the weird sound of the phrase.

And so the language changes. Literally now means literally and not literally - especially, and pretty much exclusively, when used in hyperbole - based on its context within a sentence. And it's literally much easier to use than figuratively.

There's a reason Latin has become a dead language. They kept accidentally summoning demons when trying to order at a restaurant. And that's just not easy to deal with.

Wheatloaf3 votes

The thing is, we don't usually get cases of hyperbole changing the meaning of a word completely, especially when it's a word like literal/literally, one of the best and simplest ways to call the concept to which it refers (taking something word-for-word). I understand language changes, and there's really nothing I can do to stop it, but I think there's some small value in pointing out that this particular evolution might be a little backwards. To begin with, rather than being used as normal hyperbole, "literally" tends to find itself used as a hyperbole on top of a hyperbole, so no wonder people got confused as to its original definition.

Can you explain to me the quip about Latin at the end, though? I've never studied it, so I'm not sure how everything there other than it being a dead language related to the topic at hand.

EDIT: To put it a little better (I tend to word things poorly the first few times I try, so please bear with me), modern usage of "literally" has nothing to do with ease of use, since the "literally" is, in most cases, including the one you stated, an entirely unnecessary addition to an existing hyperbole.

Of course they should. Languages evolve not because some blokes in a university decide how they should, but by how people use them.

I don't know about you but generally speaking in Reading Comprehension when you're given a title you can expect the content to be related to the title. Exaggerated, Non-Serious Title = Exaggerated, Non-Serious Content.

See this is why you need to take that class.

Let's say you read an article titled "Relax, Trump won't destroy the world" do you:

  1. Realize that the title isn't serious, but the content in the article most likely is.

  2. Rip your clothes off, run into the street and start celebrating that Trump called WWIII off?

I mean, reading The Onion must be quite an experience for you!

Legit question. Why the hell do you care so much that you'd make two posts about it? Does it honestly bother you that much? I see a lot of people in a lot of threads pointing out things in a completely unnecessary way almost just for the sake of starting an argument. And I'm trying to understand why

I play(ed) almost exclusively Normal Draft, so Riot basically made the game unplayable for me.

That is why I "whine" about it a lot.

"Whining" about Blind is a natural course of action since it is both literal cancer AND apparently what Riot wants to force me to play.

Because I come to the forums and enjoy when the community is providing productive, useful feedback. That is what they are intended for, yet you get these flamers who come and cry over everything without considering the grand picture and wonder why they aren't being acknowledged when they can't even be bothered to speak their (I assume) native language properly.

Call me old if you'd like but when I hear millennials saying "I literally did this, I literally did that" all the time when you know damn well they didn't "literally" do anything it's impossible to take anything they say as legitimate.

More than anything, it's annoying as fuck.

######Que children saying "yeah well you're annoying as fuck".

And where it is possible to have both, they kept both That's why NA, EUW and BR still have both draft and blind

In those smaller regions they were forced to chose between one or another, and went with blind because they deemed Normal Draft was less necessary because served less purposes and there was a more similar experience available with other Q

I mean, if you tell them to do what I suggested here, maybe they could have kept both Q also in smaller regions

They need to tone down his passive or make a higher requirement to reach that cap. He gets 30% free AD for killing 5 unique champions. How the fuck is that difficult at all?

Kindred on the other hand has to go through a lot more risks to get her marks and even then she still needs 8-9 just to get to the same damage her Q used to have pre-nerf.

That is 40% free damage if there is a Kha'zix for him to kill. (I think it is actually 42% even).

Also, his self-heal outdoes most Supports AND it gives him an Olaf-ultimate CC immunity.

What were you thinking, riot?!

JerulEon3 votes

Jeez that sounds awful. Meanwhile, he's permabanned in draft mode. :(

RainbowIcee3 votes

So if blind pick is gone and draft pick returns we'll have 2 things. 1 people that don't know how to deal with a situation will never learn how to. 2 people won't be able to play rengar at all. I think it would just be better to balance rengar than to remove blind pick. Meanwhile we can prepare to counter/fight him.

The funny thing is that on top of it all he feels like absolute trash to play. Even more clunky and strategic playmaking potential feels lower. They stripped everything away and upped the cheese...

I used to enjoy doing triforce tank rengar in top lane, but his new kit essential demands you stack AD through the ceiling. Man one shotting people is so rewarding and exciting zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Well that is because his insane snowball requires the jungle to get his Bonetooth Necklace passive to go full retard.

The way his kit in works in general is a lot worse in lane... unless he gets ahead/a kill. Then he's even more oppressive than old ad rengar was with a lead.
