I mean he's basically banned every game below Gold. Then when I got to play him in normals, he was just really kinda meh.

He's slow, extremely predictable, and easily countered. Not only that but he's lowkey trash in teamfights despite his big scary ultimate. Have I been lied to my whole life? I mean I won't lie, I used to ban Darius myself simply because I didn't understand the champ and I don't like being stomped in lane, but now after playing him for myself I have so much respect for Darius players.

He's strong but he can stomp lower levels becase he's more of a "raid boss" champ. He's strong early and can just bully most other champs to where they have to hang out and farm under tower.

To really kill him you need to poke at him a bit or organize a gank before going for the all in.
