Make Sion's Q end when he gets stunned

MarkedOfKane··14 votes·2,155 views

I think of Mega-Gnar and how he can slam his arm down and stun multiple champions after a small delay. This attack always follows through.

Sion's Q takes a while to fully charge up and its really depressing when someone is sitting right infront of you and stuns you last second and stops you from using the ability.

Its just my opinion on it but I think if Sion gets stunned while charging his Q, it should immediately activate.

That doesn't make sense from a gameplay perspective.

It makes stunning Sion to save yourself actually become the wrong move.

I cant imagine a situation where popping his stun early would be worse then letting him charge it longer.

Sion is charging his Q.

You could move out of it.

Or stun him, resulting in him stunning you. This becomes a wrong choice, despite the fact an interrupt is the logical counter to any channel.

Then move out of it.

No. There's a reason that it's a channel. It's supposed to be interrupted in order for there to be "counterplay."

Besides, you get a massive cooldown refund if it gets interrupted anyway.

I think of Lux and how she can shoot a lazer after a small delay. This attack always follows through.

Karthus's R takes a while to fully charge up and its really depressing when someone is sitting right infront of you and stuns you last second and stops you from using the ability.

Its just my opinion on it but I think if Karthus gets stunned while charging his R, it should immediately activate.

If a channeled ability like Karth's ult was impossible to interrupt, why even bother having the channel time to begin with? You then end up with a weird situation where you WANT to be CCed because it gives the enemy team less warning. Karth ult, then ally Kalista yank him = free, no-warning Karth ult. Also, you can self-interrupt channels. Should it still go off then?

I honestly don't get why they have channels and cast times. I can interrupt karth ult, but if ez or lux wind up there is no stopping them. Makes no sense to me.

Lux and Ezreal don't have cast times, they have long animations.

KING OF MASKS1 votes

Actually I'm pretty sure they do have cast times. Same with Jinx's rocket.

But there's a difference between abilities that have a brief delay before triggering and abilities that are explicitly channeled.

My comment went over so many peoples heads.

Oh. I see. Well played! Didn't notice the strategic word replacement until just now.

While I agree that it's stupendously annoying to have my Q canceled by any number of things, if they changed it to just end at the current charge when he's stunned, he'll lose the significantly lower CD for having it canceled on him, which is actually a pretty awesome thing.

It forces the enemy team to constantly want to blow CC on him (and not his team mates) to keep themselves safe from his own KnockUp.

Thats actually a good point. I didn't think of it that way.

I main Sion in ARAM (as in, I always try to trade for it, unless I have Sona, Karma, or Teemo (I never trust anyone else's Teemo)). That knock up is on a super short CD once you have item 3065 and item 3025 (and a full set of scaling CD Glyphs). I win not by carrying, but by being such a bother to the enemy that half the time I don't even need to play smart, just run in, blow cd's, and either live or die and whack stuff. When I have to play smart are the interesting games X3

That doesn't make much sense. Sion's Q is considered a charged channel ability (from the wiki: Sion channels for up to 2 seconds) , and channels can be interrupted. It offers counterplay.

Varus' Q, Xerath Q, Vi's Q and Zac's E are all similar -- they charge up the damage and/or range of the ability, but to my knowledge, every single one can be interrupted and the ability will not go off. I don't see why Sion's should be any different.

You have no idea how many times a Janna Q has saved me from a Vi Q!! Janna !!

Any champ that has a channeled ability will have that ability cancelled if they are stunned while charging it.

Except its not channeled. It's charged. He can release it at any time.

And interrupting it would either force the slow or the stun depending on your reaction time. Sion is pretty weak right now.

Skoonie4 votes

...You''re kidding, right? Aside from not being able to catch anyone with his passive, Sion's in a great place right now. Just because his skills have decent counterplay doesn't mean he's weak.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

Maybe it's just the people I play with, but several of my friends love playing Sion top, and they very rarely lose lane (only to skilled counterpick champions). He also doesn't lose to ranged tops like so many other melees do, because his minion hit hurts and slows.

I disagree.

The point of interrupting a channel is to prevent whatever is being channeled from happening. This change is counter-intuitive as it makes the act of interrupting his channeling a BAD thing to do.

Idk I think Killdozer hit the nail on the head here, it allows for counter play, and in return Sion gets a reduced CD on it when it's stopped so he doesn't fully suffer when someone counters his mechanics.

it really is a very well balanced trade off if you think about it.

Good Idea! Especially in the middle of team fights this ruins it all and gets my team killed T^T

Yea i don't like how people can just interrupt his charge, it just ruins the whole " I'm a tank I cause CC in team fights "

Gnar gets away with so many things in his kit, it's like other champions aren't allowed to have anything because they want Gnar to be the only special one.

The reasoning why nunu's ult will still go off even when disrupted is because it does something before the channel completes- it slows everyone in the circle's movespeed (and for some reason also slows everyone's attackspeed), meaning that one could, in a pinch use it for the slow.

Sion Q is supposed to be risk-reward. Nunu's ult is semireward-reward because it isn't just a nuke at the end of the channel, it's also a slow at the beginning.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

It also does rather poor damage if interrupted (12.5 to 87.5% of its max damage)

Cenobite Azaziel1 votes

It is a soft taunt. That's why sion work so good in team comps. He ha damage, can tank and has 2 knock ups taht can be avoided. I would like if stuning him made it deal the 0.5 sec damage.

Kojiro Sasaki1 votes

Nah nah, you're going about this all wrong. Simply make it go off and do the minimum effect if he gets stunned. Meaning if he's almost a full charge and they stun you, it'll still hit them for a little damage and an alright slow. This way its still counter play, but you won't be killing yourself.

junglerboy161 votes

it is a channel, so no. The whole point of the ability isn't "Erm meh gersh I'm dealin the dermerges!" the point is "I'm a big tank, but if you ignore me for too long I'll screw your game up". It is something called a "soft taunt" it is what makes Sion a more favorable target than a carry at any given moment, because the enemy can choose to ignore him, but if they do, he will be able to burst them and knock them up with a fully charged Q. It isn't like they put it in for "counterplay", they put it in so that he has options. If the Q still dealt damage even if canceled, then nobody would waste time interrupting it (and wasting a hard CC on him) since it would hit them anyway.

If you play Sion, you have to know when you have to stop your Q.
