Chronic levels of bad player needs some actual advice on how to play this game (GONE WRONG)

So here's the deal. I'm pretty bad. And, you know what, that's really the first step to getting better I think. I know that I'm bad, and I know that there are things that I need to work on. However I don't really know, as a bad player, what those things are. I get how to lane, I'm fairly skilled at using most champions (I know what they do at any rate) and I'm pretty well settled into my lane of top lane for what I enjoy doing as a player. But I'm pretty lost from there. I have been given advice in the past on what I can do, but most of the time it's just, "get coaching" or "watch tutorials" or the like. I need some help in a... less mechanical, more gameplay sense. When to ward, where to ward, laning tips, when to telegank, when to back, how to freeze, when to push, when to group, when to split, champion pool advice. breathhhh So yeah. I'm pretty stuck right now to be honest. I can't get coaching because I work 16 hour days during the week, and my weekends are pretty busy, and I rarely play. I don't really want to watch tutorials or videos because I don't want to do what works for someone else, I want to garner my own playstyle and learn from my own experience. Anyone have some advice for an old top lane main?

Play more.

Seriously, that's the main thing that makes the most difference. Playing more will give you better game sense--answering most of the "when to do X" line of questions--and will improve your mechanics with the champs you do play.

If you can't play at least an hour or two a day, you will struggle to climb or improve.

That's a fair point. Tis the life of a 20 year old with two jobs though. Thanks for your thoughts mate ^_^

Not really just play more, but if you're strictly interested in learning how to play the game, not a role, then play as many roles as you can. it teaches you different perspectives on what's going on. In terms of learning macro gameplay, support and jungle are where you're going to want to be. Those positions let you (or make you) pay attention to the map in order to succeed.

It is worth mentioning that some tutorial/guide videos can teach a lot in a short time, so it's really just up to you as a player to make use of it.
