placed in bronze 3 with a 5/5 promo record I am making a new account and getting rid of this one, the 1000s of dollars i've spent on this account are not worth being in bronze again.

Decay doesn't change your MMR, only rank, so a reset would have brought you closer to your real rank. Meaning you must have lost so much in G5 that your MMR was almost Silver 5 which would have demoted you out of Gold anyway. Anyway, if you were actually anywhere near Gold in skill you should have no issue getting to Gold again.
