Can someone explain to me why Soraka is OP?

Seriously. I just got out of a game where me (Soraka) and Ashe laned against a Tristana Janna. I was told that Soraka is a broken champion simply because she heals for so much and it has such a low cooldown. And when you're low enough health, you simply throw a Q and heal.

My argument is this: She deals 10% Max HP True damage to herself every time it is cast. It doesn't cost much mana simply because the %HP cost is so high. You can say that this is OP with the new masteries but Janna was the primary one complaining. As well as the enemy Ahri.

I guess some people just can't handle a half desent Soraka.

Edit: I see that some people just went through and downvoted anyting supporting soraka/saying she wasn't OP. This is why I hate the boards sometimes.

She turns a carry into mundo.

doiminat0r36002 votes

Yes, but so does any champion with a heal/shield. Sona gives a heal AND a shield. Aalthough they may be miniscule, it can be spammed just as easily. With the new masteries, any support with a defensive shield/heal can turn their carry into a mundo.

have you even read the values on sona's W compared to soraka W? unfunny troll post

doiminat0r36001 votes

Yes. I have. If you build full AP sona, you can give your lane partner an equal shield as a full AP soraka. And it only costs mana. Not to mention they also get a shield. Its not a troll post if you consider everything that is being put into and gotten out of it. Not to mention that Soraka does % Max HP true damage to herself and has very low HP regen. Sona heals herself and an ally but it only costs mana.

She's regarded as 'Broken' because of the fact that she can heal any one champion (or a whole team) consistently, and the only real way to negate this is to focus Soraka first.

Combined with the fact that she has an AoE Silence, an AoE root and an AoE damaging ability that also heals Soraka for each enemy Champion hit. Oh, and her passive.

SideNote: I love your name! I can respect anyone with a metal robot arm! Even if they've made it into a robot summoning killing machine capable of disposing of fathers, science fair rivals, and bullymongs/Primal Beasts/Ferovores/BonerFarts.

Anyway, her AOE abilities are easily sidestepped (besides her Q at close range). They are silenced but that isnt all. She has always had that. Even preRework she had it (although it was only single target but it costed no mana). It just adds a bit more to her utility considering that only a few champions have an AOE silence left in the game (Chogath Malzahar just to name the ones on the top of my head).

Her passive isnt really an issue since it has about half the range of a Tahm kench/TF ultimate and only buffs MS to a jinx passive level. It helps her get back into the fight or be the ambulance that was designed to be.

Not OP, just gets very troublesome when you need to focus her first in all teamfights before we can make any progress with the rest of her team.

doiminat0r36002 votes

You can focus other people. You just need to silence her or poke her down before it starts. Make sure she has little health so she can't heal as much. Its kinda like playing against a Yasuo (i know I shouldnt be comparing that level of ridiculiousness to soraka), just poke them down and dont let them start their combo/heal up.

OP. no no no. Just stupidly annoying

doiminat0r36001 votes

She isnt that annoying. Just poke her down and move around. Make sure she stays at max Q range and dodge them (as easy as Viegars post rework E). Atleast she isn't as annoying as a support Yasuo/Leona.

I like Soraka too man. It's okay if people call her broken.

The reason why she's considered, by some, to be broken at the moment is because of grevious wounds. Before preseason started, basically any time you dropped below 40% health, you couldn't get healed at all. You always had that little thing above your head. Now that Grevious wounds only works on self heals, Soraka is extremely strong. It's made it much easier for soraka to throw her ult out and heal for a LOT of health to everyone if they are low, and it also means she can literally sit there and heal a tank and make sure he never dies.

Yes, she does 10% true damage to herself every time it is cast, but by the time that becomes a potential liability, aka when there is a chance of you being dived on, is when your Q is healing for a lot of your own health, and the other team is grouped up. Soraka makes siege and poke comps insanely strong. My last game as Soraka we spent a good 5 minutes siegeing their mid inhibitor turrent and literally every time one of them came out of base to try something, whoever they focused was healed back up instantly by me. Every time they poked someone down they were healed up, every time I was low I spammed Qs and my talismen regen made sure I had full health so they couldn't even poke me out and send me packing. Our ADC was draven so it wasn't like he could poke the tower during waves safely against an enemy annie, so we got that tower basically by letting minions hit it. And my ping was 250-300 at the time. I seriously couldn't quick reaction anything, but I was still landing Qs on people at my mid silver-low gold ranking. Her Q is just an insane skill.

Another reason is her kiting potential with her ADC. It's really not that hard to spam Qs and Ws and heal yourself and your ally as you run away until you get to a point where their stutter stepping and your Q spam means all the sudden, you're getting chased by 1/4 healthed enemies while you're full. They you just turn around and wreck them after silencing them with E.

Her Kit just has so much rage inducing stuff in it, its obvious that some will call her broken. Right now she's just in a strong spot is all. Probably THE strongest support in game at the moment. Basically any time you're at a point where you are saying "She's easy to counter! All you have to do is dodge her stuff!" about a champion, the champion is considered over powered by many. I think she will be relegated to 2nd string once Riot buffs Grievous wounds again. Yes, wish removes it, but it's like a 70 second cooldown with max CDR, not exactly spammable.

This is preseason, expect lots and lots and lots of Salt from many players about how something is Broken. Riot will do something about it. It's really only a matter of time before our tank and crit meta becomes an AP assassin meta, or a evelynn meta (plz rito have mercy), or hell, maybe Taric/Urgot will be all the rage again.

She isn't OP. It's just that people complain when she keeps someone alive when they had a sure kill. She is about on par with Janna right now.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Many people can't differentiate between unfun to play against, broken, and overpowered.

It's part of the reason why you see so many complaints about Yasuo.

Bronzoid1 votes

Normally I would agree Soraka is a toxic cancer, but since Janna and Ahri were saying that, it automatically invalidates everything.

doiminat0r36001 votes

im not sure if its sarcasm that youre saying that its invalid. My point is that it is easily argued that they are much stronger than Soraka.

Let me talk about this from a more macro-scale level, rather than just specific interactions in lane:

  1. It is very hard to make a comeback against Soraka. That is because to make a comeback, you need to outflank the enemy carries, pick them off before they can react, and then use your number advantage to steamroll. You can't do that against Soraka because she has heals, a huge AOE silence and a self-heal. A team thats ahead with a Soraka that can press R and right click stays ahead. That means to beat Soraka, you have to already be ahead.

  2. You have to be ahead to beat Soraka but Soraka makes it hard to get ahead in the first place. Pre-6, you can get an advantage in other lanes, but it is hard to get an advantage against a Soraka that knows what she's doing. Post-6, she can protect other lanes from across the map, meaning that if they are not already stomping, they will lose any all-ins since Soraka can clutch heal.

  3. Since you have to be ahead to beat Soraka and it's very hard to get ahead of a team with Soraka in it, it often feels like it's a hopeless battle and just waiting to lose, or if you win, it was won due to luck or enemy incompetence, not because you were good.

She's a teamfight monster with a silence/snare pool, a poke ability that can crit, can slow, and can heal her whole healthbar in a teamfight, as well as a global cockblock ult that is now ever better with free resistances and no grevious wounds, on top of being able to heal anyone to full in ~10 seconds, tank or not.

She's just really good at what she does, and requires a different playstyle than normal (you HAVE to force quick fights, or kill her first). I wouldn't say op though.

She is pretty beast in lane. When I play her I often have to tell the ADC go WAY more HAM. The ADCs just have NO idea the kind of sustain a good Raka brings to lane.
