Darius not viable again?

Darius/Match History

https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/3d2bnj/til_darius_is_the_champion_who_has_had_by_far_the/ Remember that thread? I believe this is happening again. Darius is so rarely picked after Worlds (Even if he performed there with 50% winrate before semi-finals. No one picked him after that moment) Seriously he used to be useless for 3 years and then we're getting the same result after rework. 3 years Riot. This is my favorite champion and I always get flamed for picking this "useless champ who gets kited 24/7". Remember Rumble and Maokai dominance season 4 - 5? Is that even fair? Or take a look at Jax . He's always decent pick in soloqueue or lcs. I'm not talking about being OP but it's more about viability. For the love of God do something with this. Juggernaut class is dumb. Huge noobtrap in fact without any potential for big plays. Semi-tank without reliable CC or utility, semi-carry without stable damage. I won't really suggest anything cause you won't even reply to me and I actually have no idea what can be done here.

Darius is playable. His kit does allow for kiting, but there are ways to enable him with other champions on your team. Soo is he viable? Well hes a niche pick. but still viable

I still see plenty of Darius play in ranked. Granted, I'm only in Silver as of the moment. And he actually gets banned quite frequently. He's still rather viable, I think he just actually takes a certain amount of skill now rather than just being able to steamroll in lane no matter how much you've played him. In LCS, Darius is unreliable with a lot of popular team comps because toplaners need to have cc in this meta. With only a short range pull and a slow on an auto attack, he can't necessarily lock someone down like other more favorable toplaners could (like Nautilus, for example).

I'm mastery five with Darius. After the changes they made to him, I had to adjust my playstyle to fit the changes. While he's still very strong, you need to have the right team comp that can possibly hit someone with a snare or stun before Darius engages. He truly, in my opinion, is a bruiser and fighter rather than a tank. He has a ton of good damage in his kit, but he can't do it without getting in the fight somehow and catching their squishies without their escapes. But, you can't not build health and resistances on him, because you wouldn't survive long enough to do the damage needed.

He's still viable, but you actually have to know what you're doing now. Mind you, looking at professional players doesn't give a completely accurate representation of if a champ is viable or not. 99% of league players aren't professional. Professional players play to not only their strengths, but to the weaknesses of their opponents, as well as to the strengths and weaknesses of the meta. Darius won't be a perfect pick against a lot of the very strong toplaners of this meta, so he goes unpicked.

And I've never in my life gotten flamed for picking Darius, even in ranked. Maybe if their team is kite and peel-heavy, I can see someone getting flamed, but Darius is still a reliable pick when you know what you're doing, and especially if you have a team comp that can work well with it.

How were Rumble and Maokai even dominant in seasons 4-5? Season 4 from what I remember was all around the holy trinity of top laners consisiting of Shyvana, DrMundo and Renekton. It was literally all about picking them or picking their counters which Rumble and Maokai surely aren't. As far as the season 5 goes, the beginning of it didn't favour the "oh so dominant" guys because of smite + teleport meta when Cinderhulk was busted af, they didn't truly spiked in viabillity until Cinderhulk got nerfed and the double tp meta was becoming more popular.

But even then, you could argue that Maokai was overly dominant, but then, the top lane champion pool shifted more towards picks that he can easily beat so it kinda speaks for itself. And yes, I know how broken he was on the day of his rework's release, and yes, I do agree that he was stupidly strong at the time, but then, how long it lasted? Like one patch? That doesn't really equal the dominance for whole two seasons.

Meanwhile Rumble was strong at the time mostly because top lane champion pool also favoured him, Juggernauts were not a thing yet, Fiora didn't get her rework, Marksmen stayed in top lane (+ they didn't get their reworks yet), overall he was allowed to exist as a top laner at the time, even moreso that he could rather easily deal with picks that were popular at the time and overall fit into the whole objective control strategy with double tp. But even then, it's rather hard to say wether he's dominant or not when his average pickrate is like 1% and he himself is a difficult champion to play.
