I don't play Yasuo... but why isn't he just balanced around having charges on his E?

XxxLumberJackxxX··20 votes·1,629 views

I mean... his ability to chase you down when you are 'safe' in your minions and then get out again while you can't do anything bc windwall is the most frustrating thing about him. So... what if he couldn't get back out again?

I'd also like to see his windwall width scale with levels.

Tell me why I'm crazy for thinking these two adjustments could make him feel less frustrating to lane against?

"When you are "safe" in your minions"

You are not safe in your minions when fighting Yasuo. His Q builds easier when targeting minions, his E makes him more mobile with minions.

Yasuo uses your minions against you. The safest place to be against Yasuo is away from your minions.

Edit: his windwall scales with width per rank. Imo it doesn't need to get bigger, it needs to scale with duration instead.

Lauchmelder2 votes

It should use Flow as a resource imo.

He has 50% flow? Windwall is only 50% wide. You get the idea.

Spicy Rice7 votes

Because it's a resource he has next to no control over.

Lauchmelder5 votes

Well obviously flow would have to be reworked as well

The being safe part with the minions was a rhetorical question or sarcasm. The reason is that, usually being around your minions always guarantees safety except in few cases. However with yasuo you literally have no safety around minions so firstly playing mid against him is asking for trouble because there is not much space other than being around your minions. Secondly yasuo was designed to counter poke mages which are usually the meta in mid. The real problem with yasuo is the fact that he is a late game champ that doesn't suffer too much early game. Look at vayne for example as she is a sitting duck early game. In lane yasuo needs to be less of a peasant as he currently is, i dont mind his late game being broken if early on you could sht on him.

abca982 votes

Then where should I position when fighting him?

Ralanr2 votes

Idk. Not with your minions I guess.

SpecterVonBaren3 votes

Which means either under your turret or next to the side bushes where the enemy jungle can more easily get at you?

50000000000000002 votes

I mean you should almost always have one of the side bushes warded, right? Stay near the warded side, maybe?

There's so much wrong with this that it actually hurts me, and the fact that you're so heavily upvoted helps me understand why you guys struggle with Yasuo so much. No wonder you guys think Yasuo is such a lane bully; you don't let your minions win trades for you.

It's really not that complicated. Minions do a ton of damage early game, especially caster minions. Yasuo is also a squishy champ so he will take a ton of damage if he tanks those for an extended period. If you're a ranged champ mid against Yasuo, the worst thing you can do if get forced out of aid range of your minions. Watch a high elo Orianna or Ahri play against Yasuo; they play foward, keep his shield off at all times, and force him to tank all the caster minions if he wants to trade.

That's exactly my point? There is no safe place to be against yasuo

Meep Man3 votes

I think people misunderstand what SAFE is in LoL. Minions and towers don't provide safety. They provide a home advantage. Not absolute safety or even a remotely powerful amount of safety. This has never been true.

I'd also like to see his windwall width scale with levels.

It does already though right?

Stars Shaper2 votes

That's the level of knowledge that most Yasuo haters have.

BananaSlayerAMO2 votes

Maybe give him the Katarina treatment? Introduce a short delay before E can be cast again, so that there's more counter play to his multiple low-cd dashes? It would also reduce his ridiculous chasing ability through minions.

ShadowParker3 votes

It'd make him super clunky to play though.

Mr Noggenfogger1 votes

That's actually the problem I have with current Kat tbh. It would make him much more clunky to play

Noblewind2 votes

I don't understand why he isn't just given longer CDs on his abilities, especially in early levels. The reason why he is so annoying to play against is his non-stop up-time. His window of power is basically Always, and any downtime he might have from his W or ult for example is countered in his favour by strong waveclear, the zoning potential from stacked Qs, and passive shield.

If he had to time Dash combos instead of dashing all of the time for example, it would gate his early game. You could still make him scale well into late game through even a little bit of CDR or scaling CDR through levelling abilities but right now it's too much.

Mr Noggenfogger1 votes

His passive shield and q uptime are his windows tho

As a Yasuo main, charges on his E would SUCK. Remember that Yasuo is basically an ADC that has no range, he needs his mobility. A much better suggestion I saw elsewhere was to increase the per-target cooldown of his dash. This would make it harder for Yasuo to just mindlessly dash around since he'll have to wait longer to dash to previous targets, as well it gives his opponents more breathing room as he won't be able to dash directly to them as often.

As far as his windwall goes, it already scales in width with rank. What they should do is to make its duration scale with rank.

Mr Noggenfogger1 votes

It really wouldn't suck. Would it scaling from 4-12 work? He needs enough at level 1 to at least close the gap, and needs enough at max level to keep his movement feel the same as live, not sure on numbers. Also have his dash charges reset either when he gets his shield or when it's procced?

Edit: a word

Anags1 votes

Wind wall doesn't belong on any high damage champion. It just shouldn't exist on yasuo.

A low damage support maybe, but not a high damage champ. It's always a bad idea to give high damage carries abilities with a lot of damage mitigation or team utility. Especially since they have access to lifesteal

Mr Noggenfogger1 votes

They need a form of limited damage reduction that can be counterplayed, such as the windwall(wait till it's gone, then go in). Yasuo isn't an assassin , and can't instaburst.a carry, and he has no innate sustain. His shield can easily be procced, so he needs a safe way of damage reduction, that while counterable, is controlled by yasuo, since he can decide when to use it.

Salron1 votes

So then tell me how he is supposed to function if he goes in and can't get out?

Hyperiön8 votes

Keep track of his charges on E.

Salron1 votes

And what compensation would he get for a charge system?

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

They could remove the CD on minions so he could E one several times.

Stars Shaper1 votes

He already has to keep available targets, a double check like this is a stupid gimmick to appease whiners.

Hyperiön1 votes

Aside from his windwall. His E is his biggest issue. When available, there is way too much mobility on low cd

Stars Shaper1 votes

It's not.

The only time it's at his advantage is when he is ahead and you are running close to your minions line.

If he dashes through enemies then it's their fault not stopping him, if you are ahead you can easily shut him down, if you are not running into minions he has no way to catch you. The issue is ppl going braindead against Yasuos who know what they're doing

Nahui10 votes

Like any other fighter. Thoughtfully, not mindlessly.

50000000000000001 votes

But he's not even a fighter. He's a skirmisher, like Fiora, Riven, Master Yi, etc. He's supposed to be a squishy mobile carry.

Nahui1 votes

Sure, I don't know. I'll never use their special new names for classes. Fighter, tank, bruiser, Mage, assassin, adc, support for me haha.

50000000000000001 votes

Short version is that Skirmishers are some mixture of assassin and adc. They have high DPS and/or burst, and they're squishy, but they have some powerful but situational defensive tools.

SlampieceHawke2 votes

Well diana manages 2 charges on her ult just fine (if you land q).

Yes, you can use her 2nd ult as an escape in some situations.

chipndip11 votes

Diana is a diver. She isn't supposed to come out. She jumps in and scraps until it's done.

Yasuo is a skirmisher. He actually needs a way out to function akin to others in his class.

SlampieceHawke1 votes

Well yeah i kinda agree there, but the point I'm trying to make is that she can get out, even with only 2 mobility uses. I do it when the need calls for it, such as using 2nd ult on a distant minion when the enemy jungler appears during a skirmish.

I'm not saying yasuo should only be allowed 2 dashes though. Just agreeing that charges or some form of delay would be a decent thought/ step in the right direction.

chipndip11 votes

He already has a limit: 1 per enemy based on a separate cd.

If you think he should use a charge system, you concede that he should be able to repeatedly dash through the same target if he chooses to. This means that in close quarters against someone like Lux or Xerath, he can just get free damage over and over by repeatedly passing through them over and over.

If you HONESTLY think that's fair...

SlampieceHawke1 votes

I'm not conceding he should be able to dash repeadetly. I want the opposite/ a limit to his dashing, i think that's what most people get frustrated about, that he has oodles of mobility when minions are stacking up.

I'm thinking keep the 1 per enemy on a seperate cd while also using a charge system similar to gangplanks barrels, with the max charges reaching to like 6 or something.

I'm not a balance master so this may not be suitable, but I'm just trying to throw ideas out there. I'm sure these yas mains would like to get past the ban phase.

chipndip11 votes

I'm telling you right now: This isn't happening without some sort of compensation elsewhere. The thing is that YASUO ISN'T OP. Actually, he's not all that great at all, period. People just dislike playing against him. If they nerf his E by putting 3 different limiters on it, he's gonna need buffs somewhere to compensate, which will probably lead to buffs to either his raw damage output or his shield.

SlampieceHawke1 votes

Let's not naysay the limiter idea right away or assume it'd be a massive nerf. It wouldn't have to recharge as slow as gangbangs does. It could recharge relatively quick.

I don't think he's OP either, strong maybe. I spend my bans on ivern and fiora and maybe lulu.

As much as release yasuo gave me shellshock that I'm still recovering from, I still want people to be able to play who they want to play.

He may even be numerically weak as you say, but obviously a lot of people find his kit obnoxious. That's pretty OP in it's own right

2Charmnot2Charm1 votes

If yasuo has charges on his E instead of it being cooldown based per target then he might as well be tristana levels of uselessness.

If i know yasuo is coming for me outside of laning phase i'll run into the jungle/river to escape if i see that i have incoming friendly minions to worry about if i can't 1v1 for some reason.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Having no cooldown per target would actually break him, since you could just max E and abuse the free base damage.

They would have to nerf the damage a lot to make this work.

But taking away that cooldown was never suggested. That's just your interpretation.

Ahristocats1 votes

yasuo isn't akali

yasuo E was designed to give him mobility inside a lane, if he had charges instead of not fighting yasuo in lane you would just wait until he is out of charges

SlampieceHawke1 votes

At this point i think yas mains have found themselves in a unique paradox in which they'd like to get past the ban phase, but at the same time do not want their champion nerfed in any kind of way.

So they're not going to try and contribute or support any meaningful change to help him see the light of day. They love the mindless free mobility, constant shield uptime, and windwall. Honestly he has so many things that keep him safe and a nuisance so long as you don't have a carry lord god complex while playing him.

They'll argue that he takes skill to be a master at yas and i agree on that, but you don't need to be a yas master in order to win games. So long as you don't have that godlike 1v9 mentality you should be fine. Much like the current DD draven, another high skill champ that at the current moment (thanks to DD), you don't need to be great at the champion to win.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Charges as a limit for his dashes are interesting but he should at the very least be able to engage and disengage once, like 4-5 dashes? You can't completely take away his escape, that would be way too much of a nerf.

Charges could limit how often he is able repeat this harass pattern.
