PSA: Flaming or toxic language is -NOT- anything that isn't praise

xelaker··12 votes·1,029 views

If I say something like, "stop dying" or "stop trying to 1v1 a fed champ X" it isn't flaming, toxic, or "unsportsmanlike". It's not all that friendly, but you don't die from it

If I say, "hey you paint huffing wiener gobbler, jump off a bridge after eating 4 tubs of glue" or "hey cross-eyed window licker, quit feeding before they die of obesity" THAT is flaming, toxic, and all around rude.

Don't get the two mixed up because your special snowflake feelings are hurt and league doesn't have a part of the website called, "The safe zone of compliments". It's a competitive 5v5 game, and people wanna win. And it doesn't matter if it's ranked or normal, nobody likes to loose because you can't grasp the concepts of a moba, or resist that 5v1.

And the phrase, "it's just a game" is the final nail in the coffin against the cry-baby attitudes on here all the time. It's just a game, stop being butthurt over what some lazy computer jockey, like me, says during a game...

To be completely honest with anyone who got this far without -1 and leaving, I have gazed into the future and have seen your downvotes and harrumph comments about this and that so blast away ye of thin skin [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

is there really a point to saying that, though? They know that dying isn't the objective and unless they are inting they didn't do it on purpose so it's only going to frustrate them and make them play worse.

the people that cry are usually 4/16/3... I don't hassle the occasional death, just very unnecessary ones. intentional 2v1 when you could escape, stepping on cait trap with 15 health, dying to any jungle camp...

Dying to jungle camps can happen. While it is unnecessary, even pros/challengers do it. The biggest offender here is raptors, it is hard to gauge exactly how mich damage they will do to you, and they might bodyblock your exit.

If they are dying for legit reasons, that's one thing. If they are dying because they keep doing something stupid, then they need to be told -- you are giving them the decency of assuming they have a functioning brain capable of comprehending and implementing a simple adjustment to their play that will stop them feeding and help them do and feel better in the long run. If they ignore or get toxic for you doing this, they don't deserve sympathy and have proven they are inting. Ex: solo invade enemy buff when your laners are in base or chunked and under their tower -- you will end up 1v3 and feed a free kill -- why do you think this will be different the 3rd time you do it when you died for nothing the first 2 times? Mindlessly shove lane 2v2 bot vs fed enemies and DON'T ward your flank -- you will get ganked or straight up 2v2 double killed and feed more kills -- miss a few cs to catch up in xp and you will get back into the game; don't pick fights with people you just fed 4 kills to. Team is all behind except maybe 1 person and that person is not you -- don't try to 3v5 facecheck a drag or baron to contest it; wait for all your team or just concede it -- if you make this mistake 1 time, there is 0 excuse for you repeating it every time drag or baron is up.

"stop dying" however is unlikely to achieve anything.

"just play safe and farm up bot -- (insert other role here) can carry" "let's maybe stop chasing people into their jungle - we keep getting ambushed by 4 people for it." "Don't try to 1v1 (xin, kha, yi, syndra, whatever) they are too fed -- work with the team" "don't try to 2v5 stop drag when they are all fed-- it's not worth dying over"

very easy to understand these things and listen to them. if they ignore, it just shows they are inting rather than making a "mistake" for the 5th time. So yes, it is worth saying them and even if they do not stop, you have proved a point -- that they are tilted (maybe) and inting (definitely); they deserve a report -- not that THAT will do anything.

what I always say when someone tells me to stop dying is, "No f*** you". See, obviously I think its a good idea to die a lot, since it is obviously the point of the game to make the other team's scores as inflated as possible. Wait, that's not how it is? then, dang, I guess I already new that I shouldn't be dying, and your statement is totally unimportant and redundant. Imagin that.

yes, it's not toxic or flaming but at the same time you have to take into consideration the state of mind of whoever is you are talking to. "Stop dying" might not be flaming or toxic but to the person who is dying it'll just serve as another frustration point since they already know that they are doing poorly and now they see some douchebag not even providing any helpful advice whatsoever. Their state of mind is already fragile as it is and you think that saying anything that can be seen even remotely negative is a good idea?
