It would be nice to be able to vote a team playing ally an S rank

UnwardiI··60 votes·2,457 views

You know those games where you're top Jarvan against a Tryndemere and you get an absolute god jungler who camps for you when he plays agro.

And you completely stomp the ever living shit out of that fucking Tryndemere and you go on to win the game by a land slide and you get that glorious S+ rating?

Well it was all because the Nautilus played very selflessly, built like a total bitch, warded for me, ganked for me, got me dragons and rift heralds and and cross map towers when I got ganked (which I could see coming cause of his deep wards) and at the end of the game, he gets a lousy B.

He played like an absolute monster and my entire team agrees he was the real mvp, myself included, it would be nice to be able to vote him an S rank.

Edit: In response to all the respondents saying "But premades would abuse it" my only response is, well yes, of course they would, but they already abuse everything. Is that really a good reason not to have a good thing? This isn't like ranking which actually matters to finding good competitive matches, it's at most just a bit of bling and if premades are able to get those tier 7 champ masteries easier as a result, well who cares. So they got boosted bling along with their boosted ELO. I just want a meaningful way for a team to reward a player for a specific performance in a specific game.

Because that's what it's about to me.

It's about the game play.

I want to be rewarded for playing well, but I also want to reward others for playing well, to acknowledge that it was their supporty style that carried me.

The idea as I currently envision it, is that in post game chat, you would have the option to elect an MVP. You would be able to discuss it with your team before you lock in your choice, or you could simply exit the chat and not vote.

Getting 3 votes would win you an MVP award. That would be it's own thing and you could collect them like any other worthless number you collect on the internet (I love collecting numbers on the internet). Maybe there could be an entirely new flashy banner around your in game loading template to buff up your border, or maybe not, maybe it's a number anyone could see and maybe only the player, I don't know and I don't care.

Getting a unanimous vote would then upgrade the value of your game's performance score accordingly. Did you score a B? Upgrade that to an A, an A to an S, etc. Nothing big, just a little extra.

And before you scream that premades could exploit this, no, they couldn't because it would only be available to singles and duos. Queuing with more than a duo already has tons of favoritism and advantages that go with it, this would be a thing for solo and duo players.

There's the idea in a separate post.

Unfortunally voting systems can be easily abused by premades. It's something to work on after we deal a good strike to toxicity.

I mean, only because dynamic q is a thing.

But it could work the same way that honoring is supposed to (ha, when was the last time you saw one of those banners) where it basically doesn't count the votes of your premades, or rates them very very weakly. So like, 4 premade upvotes wouldnt upgrade your rating at all, but 4 random upvotes would move you up 2 grades or something.

I just think it would be nice. Its very easy to report someone and imposible to reward someone.

Stars Shaper2 votes

I really don't know much about how it works, it's just that ppl will be rewarded even more because they are in a preamde which agreed to give each match an S to their own and makes solo players (which usually struggle even more to be good team players) even more out of the picture.

In a neutral enviroment I'd make this suggestion live asap. The community is what I don't trust.

I mean, they already are rewarded for being in a premade, but it's not like they're getting actual advantages... Off of my suggestion, unlike how they actually do get in game advantages for playing in a group, but never mind that.

It would just be a way to award the MVP when the game doesn't do it for them.

I've had an honor banner since lvl 10-ish, heck, I've had my yellow one taken away just because I had just gotten the green one and Riot apparently hates me (Yellow is my fav color.) Is NA just filled with ****head 12 year olds? Because (not to brag, I don't even like it here) I see 2 or 3 banners in every game, and I'm bronze in the most toxic racist (AUS Vs NZ and all that crap) region out there. summoner 13

People rarely honor

EfficientDynamo1 votes

I think you need to be in the top 10% of players in your division (or something like that) in terms of honor score to get a banner. If my memory on that is right, it might explain why it is easier to get a banner in toxic Bronze-land.

Kasyrgan1 votes

I agree. If this did become a thing, then someone on your team should give up an S rank to another player. But even then, premades can just farm for S ranks and get everyone to lvl 7 in a day.

TheThundersRoar1 votes

So how about preventing premades from voting within themselves?

Stars Shaper1 votes

That would be unfair. I'd rather make it so that a premade vote counts as one ppl vote meaning that the non-premade vote would be needed too.

Do that and it's a viable idea again.

Everyone will abuse it...... i just said premade as a example.

Why would people abuse it? Because they have somthing to gain from it You vote for me and ill vote for you

They will be getting free boxes and mastery tokens without working for it.

Just let the system decide

Mad King Hades1 votes

Make it only the best player. Done, you can't fight again with the other player without being premades.

macromite1 votes

premades should count as one vote. not the people in the pre made, but the group as a whole.

Pika Fox2 votes

From what i can tell, it arbitrarily compares how you do that game to how other people playing your champion around your skill level in other games do. It doesnt care if your team set you up with perfect CC, perfect harass, secured every objective for you etc, it only cares about your stats.

You could be an 0/15/20 singed who killed all 3 top towers and top inhib by 13 mins, got every important pick for his team, and took down the 3 bot towers + inhib by 20 mins, solo carrying the game, but because some other singed went 20/0/10 and was carried by others, you get a lousy score.

The Lexer2 votes

Or they could imput an MVP voting, where, maybe at victory screen, all 10 players vote for somebody other than themselves as the "MVP," The person with the most votes gets, at the very least, and S-.

And maybe make it so you can only vote for the winning team, and non-premades get more power? IDK it's hard to balance

Mysticman892 votes

Even ignoring the abuse case of premades, it seems like it'd defeat the purpose. The grades are supposed to be a bit of personal feedback on how you did compared to other players playing the same champ/role combination, so if you get an S+ you know you're in the top 2% of all performances and you can be reasonably confident that you're actually good on the champion and not just suffering from dunning-Kruger. Mastery 6/7 similarly are intended to show off that skill.

If people could just be good sports and get S's even if their performance wasn't actually S worthy, then it's sortof undermine the whole point. Not to mention, a lot of players don't even know a good performance from a great one. I've played with bronze/silver friends and had in my view an awful game compared to what I'm capable of, and sometimes they'll hail my performance as godlike. By the same token, I expect if I played with a challenger player who was having an off game, I'd still be left pretty much in awe as their off game still outperformed my best potentially. The grading system removes the naivety aspect, so you really have to face that others are simply better than you if you get a worse grade than you feel you deserved.

It might be an interesting addition to the game to have a post-game MVP vote, separate from champion mastery though. They could perhaps get some extra IP, or it could be tracked as a stat somewhere. Sometimes the MVP isn't the one who performed best, but just rallied the team or pulled off a miracle baron steal or something like that despite a lackluster performance, so a way to reward that that wouldn't undermine other systems could be nice.

Jari1 votes

The system doesn't know everything that goes on though is the problem. Someone can be an MVP in ways the system doesn't know, or maybe even hurts their grade for. One example is sacrificing yourself, having you die to allow the other 3 players to escape. I've seen that be able to win games, but that hurts the player's score because they get a death, which seemed to be weighed quite a bit.

Just using that as an example.

TheOvermind2 votes

Tfw i gloriously sacrifice my self to save my ad carry from 4 man ganks as support but get a- or b+ because bad kda. It's a shame the game can't see that "death prevented by a moral choice of the support" . It's just impossible for the computer to read those moments. Which is lame because if u wanna get a high grade u have to play very selfish

Mad King Hades3 votes

I have the same problem, though I play top. I sacrifice my well-being in team fights so my team can kick them butts and then I get punished with a morally wrong b+ for 5 deaths with a load of kills, assists, and cs.

I find I can only get an S as a support if I can get 10+ kills

EfficientDynamo1 votes

Depends on what support you are playing. I play Zyra supp (and true supp build, with wards, mobi boots, aegis, etc.) and just poke all day long without getting more than 1 or two kills. I can still get an S because by the end of the day my plants do an ungodly amount of damage when you add it all up.

Also, you might be surprised how much of your score comes from killing and placing wards, including vision wards.

PapaGreg211 votes

Wards do absolutely nothing for my score. I put out wards like a madman and I never find it helpful with my score. Though many things probably matter for score, I am 100 percent positive that kills are significantly more important based on experience than anything else.

EfficientDynamo1 votes

Well Riot has explicitly stated that wards placed and wards cleared are metrics they use to create your score. Remember, your score has to be better than most other people's, so you need to ward much better than average.

KDA helps too, but it is not the only thing.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

Technically that sounds like a hybrid of the honor system. Maybe they could do something with honoring and have that give out a better score for the honored player. That way, even the enemy can help them get a better grade if they think that person did well enough. Sure, it would have to work in a way that wouldn't take someone's score from a C- to an S, but I'm sure something like an A to an S- or something wouldn't be too much of a jump.

Lord Galvatron1 votes

If only this were a thing……

ƒoes1 votes

The grading system takes into account the role, CS, kills, assists, deaths, kill contribution, etc..

Basically, go Yasuo ADC and build the same, play the same, snowball, etc, and get an S even though you go 5/0 because nobody else goes Yasuo ADC and does well.

TyroneWatermelon1 votes

Bad idea. Also kda is the true power of "champion mastery"

EfficientDynamo1 votes

It would be nice for this to happen, although a better solution is a more intelligent system of awarding grades based on performance rather than the current stats Riot uses.

LankPants1 votes

The problem with this is how jungle is ranked. It over-prioritises farm, straight up.

Farm is the least important factor for a jungler. It's only bad junglers who sit in their jungle and CS up, but that's the only way you can get S ranks, especially as someone like Yi or Shyvana. You try to control the game by trading you farm for lane pressure (which is almost always the correct play) and you pretty much lose any hope of getting an S rank.

Sr ,but not till dynamic Q exist.Premades would abuse that.

SURG1CAL1 votes

I disagree, I think if he really did play like a monster, he will get the rank he deserves

The Deckowner1 votes

the grading system in general is just stupid,it require the player to have a high amount of cs and kills no matter what role or champion they play. Like I play jungle and have sky high kda but low cs because I spend too muh time roaming and ganking, nope here is your B. I'm the support who never steal kills or cs, and I protect my carries very well while getting tons of assists, nope here is your C-.

I have honestly exploited the system awhile ago and basically CS+win=grades. It is flat out stupid but I don't think Rito have any intention to fix it any soon.

I did, obviously, but that's not a thing that an entire team comes together to reward a single exceptional player. Besides, it's more of a pat on the head kind of thing.

My idea now, from reading responses and so I will edit the op to reflect it, is that it would be an optional MVP vote in the post game chat, which, if everyone on the team votes for the same person (You can't vote for yourself) THEN their performance on their champion would also be upgraded.

5 man premades would simply not be given the option to elect an MVP and so it wouldn't be easily exploitable.

A jungler that ganks and gets his laners ahead just did his job. Him getting you ahead is nothing praise-worthy or special, and if he didn't get the S then he didn't perform truly exceptionally compared to other Nautilus players.

Idea sucks.

Yes, but he went above and beyond. He ganked, and that's his job, he warded and that's also his job, but it's not his job to sacrifice his own farm in order to make sure I keep my lead. It's not his job to build full tank and peel bot in order that I am able to just go completely and utterly ham on the enemy back line. I and the rest of my team notice him doing these things but the end game score doesn't reflect it. They ARE the marks of exceptional play, skillful play, but they are not rewarded. Everyone knows this. In every good team comp, someone has to be the bitch and it's a thankless job. I would like to thank those who embrace it and do it well for the easiest win of my life.

Maybe he should learn how to balance farming and ganking?

It is, in fact, his job to build full tank and peel. He's a tank. That is literally what tanks are meant to do.

You can build full tank, peel, and support your team and still get an S. I did it as Sion just the other day. I did it because I also maintained good farm (which is admittedly much more important for Sion than it is for most tanks because of his W passive).

If he didn't get an S on Nautilus it is because he wasn't performing as exceptionally as the Nauts who do.

It really genuinely sucks being the tank for random teammates if you're trying for level 7 mastery.
