conqueror damage items and how playing tanks feels.... not great
i believe that conqueror should be changed from 20% of damage to true damage, is should just be a 20% increase in damage. making true damage accessible to every champion has made playing tanks feel like garbage. tank items are worthless in the face of all the ways to ignore armor and magic resistance but of all of these offenders conqueror is the one causing the most issues right now.
all of these are problems when you can mix them together:
conqueror - true damage black cleaver - armor shred by % last whisper - % armor ignore the 3 serrated dirk items to ignore 18 armor each
- duskblade
- youmuus
- edge of night the new guinsoos rageblade armor and magic pen buff blade of the ruined king doing % current health to shred full health tanks liandrys torment doing % maximum health to deal with high health tanks void staff - % magic ignore sorcerer's shoes for flat magic pen morrelonomicon for flat magic pen
so with all these options for ignoring what makes tanks durable out there in the open lets list the notable tank items, specifically ones that might actually make you feel durable
i say that but there is really only three
adaptive helm = 10% less damage form the same source of magic damage for 4 seconds. somewhat useful against dots and rapid-fire abilities but not much
randuins omen = 20 less damage but ONLY from critical strikes, right now the only really nullifies the bonus 25% crit damage from infinity edge
ninja tabi = blocks 12% damage from "BASIC ATTACKS"
this isnt really enough though as with all the defense shred/penetration and ways of dealing % health damage damage dealers just roll over defenses like they don't matter.
the thing that truly makes tanks worth using should be their cc, not their damage. but they cant use their cc if they can killed in the same amount of time as someone who has a third the armor and half as much health. but as it is a champion not outputting damage in a fight is a wasted champion so what use are tanks?
lets define tanks real quick for the purpose of the next segment:
A tank is a character that relies on multiple cc abilities to lock a target in place so that someone else can kill them.
examples of such are: alistar, leona, nautilus, blitzcrank
examples of champions that are "tanky" but not "TANKS": darius, olaf, mundo, volibear
don't get these confused
these are not all of the things are ARE, only some. dont fill the replys with "oh you forgot something". specifically a "tank" more often than not at 3 items versus a "non tank" at three items the tank is going to lose(or at least should barring excellent outplays) because a tank is not there to kill everything. a tank is there to soak damage and lock a target down for someone else, not to kill it themselves.
moving on: I know what it sounds like I'm asking for, but you are wrong. I am NOT asking for a tank meta where tanks at their peak 1v5 squishies by being immortal. i've seen those days and they are terrible. instead i'm asking for new items with new effects. items specifically designed with damage takers in mind. Items that don't give damage dealers more options.
items like these
- ITEM 1 take 20% less damage from non-tower sources, deal 25% less damage to champions ~ cannot be used with ITEM 2 or
- ITEM 2 deal 25% less damage to champions, take no true damage ~ cannot be used with ITEM 1
something like this would be extremely beneficial to TANKS specifically preventing them from just being rolled over. simultaneously it would protect squishies from suddenly being subjected to guaranteed death at the hands of cc bots. it also prevents juggernauts from running rampant with access to new durability items.
it would be a true separation between damage dealer and damage taker and would build the foundation for the introduction to similar items in the future. i believe that these are just what the game needs to feel just a little closer to balanced.
p.s. for real though get rid of conquerors true damage, that was an awful idea and its hurting the game.
all replies should start with the word "purple" by itself on the first line to prove to everyone reading that you've actually read to this point in the post and aren't just jumping in to bash something based on a title. please for the love that we should all have for this game, think before speaking and don't just attack this post or anyone in the replies. if you don't agree with something explain "why" and propose an alternative answer. just don't say "you're wrong" or berate someones intelligence. that kind of behavior just ruins the mood for anyone who actually wants to talk about the subject.
would also be changed to have their damage reduction effects labeled as "Passive - Hardened Defenses" to prevent stacking.
