Can someone explain how Placements work again? How did I get a HIGHER tier after 10 games?

I coulda sworn I did terrible too. But I find myself in a higher tier despite my slipshod performance in my total of 10 games.

Isn't everyone supposed to get a slightly below average placement after their 10 games? I saw people with 8 wins and still got demoted.

PS - what's the rule for decay again? Is Silver the safety zone or is it Gold?

I went 6 and 4 and got bronze 5, so I am convinced it is completely random.

Yeah it does feel pretty random. Especially the match-ups where there are all the plats that do worse than the borderless players...

If you were playing last season and/or in the preseason, it depends on where your MMR was when you started placements. If you're brand-new then it adjusts your starting MMR based on how well you've been doing in Normals for that map. Then placement matches adjust you up or down from there -- they just give bigger adjustments than non-placement matches do.

It seems like Riot might have dropped everyone down a bit this season on top of the soft reset, making it harder for players that were in Gold+ to keep their old rank. But if you were ranked down in Bronze the previous season it should be possible to place into a higher tier than you finished in. Or if you did well in the preseason.
