Riot, in Blind Pick, change "Lock In" button with "Ready" button like Team Builder does

BeatzBoyFTW··107 votes·4,325 views

That way, it would significantly reduce the number of auto/instalockers in each normal blind picks we got, as the Lock In button has no actual good reasons but promotes trolling. Locking in or not, it will always ends with the same results with people readying their best champs for a match, or else, people who locks in too quickly would have a high chance of wearing the wrong skin, or having the wrong runes/masteries set. With this changes, no more:

Scenario 1

A: top B: top (autolocks in) A: wtf man im top B: oops, sorry. locked in already, can't do anything about it trololol

Scenario 2

A joins the chat room B joins the chat room A: top B: mid C joins chat room C: top (autolocks in) A: wtf man im top C: no, i called it first B: A did called first C: oh well, locked in already, cant do anything about it trololol

Scenario 3 A: top B: mid C: jungle D: adc E: support All parties locked in in less than 2 seconds

Game started.

A: Oh crap, I got support masteries! B: Oh dear, Im wearing the wrong skins! C: Oh gosh, I set pure ap runes on my j4! D: Oh lord, I took pure armor runes & masteries! E: Oh my, I took full AD runes & masteries, compiled with crit runes as well, along with my Project Yasuo skin! (teehee, carry time)

Scenario 4

A: Feel like playing a game to refresh myself

Joins game

A: top B: mid C: mid (autolocks mid) D: adc E: adc (autolocks bot) C: Wtf man. fine, Master Yi bot E: Wtf man. fine, ashe jungle A: This is living hell......

Rito, plz

Edit: First, thanks for upvotes! Honestly, I didn't think this thread would gain much love :p

And secondly, so far, I kept on seeing comments saying that this change would do no difference, as Team Builder & Draft pick has pretty much done this role. Well, to me,** not so much**. Lemme list you out some cons of it:

Team Builder

  • Certain roles has seriously long extending queue time, while Normal has a fixed time.

  • Most people be looking for Top Fighter, while someone locked in Top Tank, and wonders why it took so long to find a match. Normals can be anything you want, after some team discussion of course (if any)

  • Even when its TEAM BUILDER, people still locks in wrong spells/masteries/runes. In normals, you got plenty time for that.

  • Imagine you wanted to play Urgot top, and people be like, either rejecting you from joining their team, or no one wanting to join your Urgot top team (it literally took me 30 minutes to find a team as Urgot top myself...). Oh well, in normals, you're the top laner. It's your decision. Your team will have to face a 5+ minute penalty for leaving.

  • When you found a team while wanting to play Heccarim top after 30 minutes of waiting, then you were having second thoughts of wanting to Gnar top instead. Wanna wait another 30 minutes to do that again??

Draft Pick

  • It's always the "Im first, so Ill go top, so fk you. Call order dun matter trololol"
  • And it's always the "Ur last pick, so go support, loser trololol"
  • You guys get to see each other's champs with the enemy team, so there's the advantage of counters & switchs, plus banning phase.

By the way, in normals with the "Ready" button change, the game will only proceed if everyone hit ready before the timer runs out. Not when both teams hit ready, they have to wait, so I'll be guessing the champion selection time will be reduced by 50-60 seconds instead of 70 seconds. Whoever didn't hit the ready button even when selected a champion before the timer countsdown, he will be considered a leaver and will face the same 5+ minute penalty.

that's actually a fantastic idea. 10/10

side note, locking doesn't prevent you from changing summoners, runes, masteries, or skins, though. so idk how that is relevant

About 60% of people who insta-locks in will pretty much:

  • windows out and continue surfing the internet & porn
  • left their seat to grab food/toilet/pet their cat before moving their champion at the 1:30 minute mark.

TRUTH

If all 10 players lock in immediately the time cuts down to 10 secnods. It's a very rare occurrence but does happen.

if their intention is to go top anyway this wont make a single difference.

I'm with this guy. People will play what they want most of the time. It's the same person will say that calling it in chat should entitle you to the lane when they do it first, but will also say that pick & lock is the only way to go when someone else types faster than them.

Teambuilder & draft is the only way to remove auto lock trolling

BakugoBestBoy4 votes

Except blind pick "pick order" is determined by who locks in first... if you want a specific role on a reasonable team, play team builder. If you want to work together to pick roles and comps based on pick order play draft or ranked. Play blind if you want to autolock ADC Ahri or jungle Yorick so no one can do anything about it. That's the point...

I do not know why people downvote you, when it is how blind works...

When you break the tender etiquette of a circle-jerk you get spooged on. It was my fault for saying anything.

this

BallisticMouse3 votes

This suggestion sounds like you should just play Teambuilder tbh.

RogueFlameHaze3 votes

the only reason a ready button would be good was so that you could change you pick based on your team's choices if you wanted to

Deadly Mittens3 votes

Which, ironically, is something I wish they added to teambuilder.

B1naryB0t2 votes

Nothing worse than playing a normal support over another because you'll NEVER find that hypercarry that synergizes with another only to find the hypercarry that synergizes with the one you didn't pick.

AFK Push3 votes

These painful experiences is why I only play teambuilder or draft anymore. It also sucks cause I finally got into the PBE and the quickest games are in blinds, so when a new champ like bard comes out it is a race to clicking on him and calling roles. It is the definition of bad design and antifun.

If someone has decided which champ to play, what is the different between "Lock In" and "Ready"?

"Dude, I just want to play ap jax."

Nashor's, Lich Bane, Hextech, Abyssal & Zhonya, Boots.

Dealing ~97 extra magic damage every auto from Nashor's and the Arcane Blade mastery and over 500 every third auto from his ult passive. Yeah... Oh and don't forget the burst from Empower (426) + Leap Strike (476) + Lich Bane (324) + counting your hits to save that third hit from passive (507) + your base AD at 18 (119) + Nashor (97) + AD from Hextech (40) = 1989 potential damage in a single hit without benefit of additional AD or AP from mastery trees or runes or the %total damage increases before damage mitigation from resists is applied.

Squishies get to watch 3/4 of their health bar implode in a single hit.

junglerboy162 votes

yeah, AP Jax is excellent as a mid lane anti AP carry, since his ult's MR scales off AP quite well.

Nashor sucks. Do not build it on AP jax.

20% CDR, attack speed, good chunk of AP, AP on hit I didn't say it was optimal but he makes adequate use of every stat on it

Fizz is not Fish1 votes

AP Fizz, AP Orianna also makes adequate use of every stat on nashor.

If you want to build nashor on jax, play ad tank jax plz.

Fizz is not Fish1 votes

Yes, I just want to play ap jax. I do not need that "Ready".

JevelFaithful1 votes

Only real difference is when there's a miss comunication, you can change it.

"Dude, I just want to play ap jax."

sadly ap jax works

every single damage item in league is a jax item

Fizz is not Fish1 votes

lol, why sadly? I have played many ap jax games, jg/top/mid. Just saying, if I only want to play ap jax, what's the different between Lock In and Ready?

PalPlays1 votes

They should also make it so you can change Runes/Masteries on the selection screen. Too many times I'll use my AP runes to realize...gasp...these are the Runes for Teemo...not Amumu. I know that this can be solved by just getting more Rune pages but still, you can do it on Team Builder!

Pryotra1 votes

Um... Team builder is supposed to replace blind pick eventually... So... They will?

meatjunjun1 votes

Never thought about this before, but why isn't this the default option over LOCK IN?

Trolls will still troll, but at least this will allow some people to change their minds.

JevelFaithful1 votes

My guess is that it was so you could be sure of what people have chosen. Ironically, the very reason why we think "ready" would be better. For example, if I'm honnest, lock in Leona and go get a drink. I'm sure the adc who locked in graves won't suddenly change for a vayne who wants to play passive.

They probably expected people to lock in (not instalock) and leave. Or just a way to cut discussion if 2 strats are being discussed. Which might have been a good idea back in beta.

JevelFaithful1 votes

Wouldn't really help trolling accept remove the "locked in sry" excuse. But for the rest, I agree.

bad arcade kitty1 votes

i'm sorry but who even cares what you 'called' except you

shark music1 votes

This really does SOUND like a good idea, but, sadly, the (very) last thing LoL needs is one more situation in which your choices are second guessed by strangers.

N30NP4NDA1 votes

I cant even speak to this guy acting like he's smart with all these bullshit statistics. this wont change ANYTHING.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Then why are you here, giving a fk to comment? -_-

DEmperor951 votes

You are totally right. The very existence of the Lock In button serves no purpose at all, especially in Normal Blind Pick. There is literally no design value gained from its existence, but on the contrary it offers a lot of potential harm to the play experience.

Shadow spire1 votes

Honestly i get annoyed b/c when i call a role and the dude instalocks i cant do crap about it, and lots of times tb doenst work as well when no body is looking for the role that you want to play as. (and draft is the im first kinda bs)
