Doesn't Riot put a heavy emphasis on "clarity"?

Now explain to me Where is the visual clarity in Cass' ult animation being backwards despite actually being casted the other direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ1IyT9nWuU

Yes, i'm aware this is a very old trick, but that doesn't excuse anything

It is true. Clarity is very rare these days summoner 13

You're making a huge leap between Clarity, and just how Flash works with Animations and models. This isn't a clarity issue, as it isn't something that happens a majority of the time in the Champions gameplay.

If the animation for the Stun Cone is pointed the opposite way of the Stun Spell, that's a clarity issue. Knowing what triggers it just means it should be fixed faster, not ignored longer.

The only example he's given is an old one. And the interaction is still not a clarity. Clarity is knowing something is going to happen due to it's most COMMON trait of what something does. You know Ahri has a heal, because her Ball turns green. This is not a clarity issue, and is another common interaction with Flash.

Cass started the cast of the spell, looking away, but then flashed towards Ahri. Since Cass's Ult is not a channel, it's "Enemy is stunned when looking towards" is only applied at the end of the cast time. Cass flashed during the cast time, and as such, Flash makes the champion model face the way they flashed, so Cass stunned Ahri due to that. The animation for the cast however, faced the other way, and as such when Cass flashed, her "Inner model" faced towards Ahri, while the animation played the opposite.

This isn't a new thing with Champions who have long cast times on spells that aren't channels. Lux can do the same thing, but she doesn't move the Animation of the charge up of the ult. It's like the whole "Dashes cancel displacement" thing. It's deeper coding in Riot's italian dish that requires a lot of effort for something that isn't commonly pulled off to be taken seriously.

There are other clarity issues that we constantly see come up.

For example: Ezreal's Q. Is it treated like a spell, or is it treated like an auto attack?

  • It will draw minion agro like an auto attack.
  • It will apply on-hit effects like an auto attack
  • It will be blocked by spell shields
  • Despite its damaging nature, being a spell, and being blocked by spell shields, it won't apply anything triggered by "damaging spells"

We regularly see bug reports for Thresh not procing Ancient Coin, for champs with delayed dashes getting out of Blitzcrank grabs while champs with instant dashes don't, Yasuo's wind wall blocking things from hitting his model when he casts it backwards, and the list goes on. Not to mention the CC effects bind, root, ensnare, and entangle, which should either have their differences pointed out more or should be simplified.

The game has a massive learning curve as is, clarity issues just make it harder.

In terms of Ezreal, that was a choice between Balance and Clarity. In the end, we don't have things like Runglaive Ezreal, with the only real people effected are the people who play AP Ezreal, which requires foreknowledge to play as anyways.

Thresh's is like you said a bug, Blitz's being Riot's homemade Italian Meat Sauce and Noodles, Yasou's thing is hardly that common, and even then, YOU STILL KNOW, that it was Yasou's Windwall that destroyed it, though you may question the balance of it like many here do.

I'm 90% sure that Ensnare isn't a wrong thing, and that Entangle is limited to Amumu alone, but even then YOU KNOW that Amumu ulted you, and now you can't attack. It doesn't take a rocket science degree to figure this stuff out. None of those are Clarity issues, save Ezreal's and that was made due to balance concerns.

Thresh actually isn't a bug. He's a ranged champion with a weapon that people look at and think should be melee. There's a clarity issue between his visuals/animation (melee) and his game mechanics (ranged).

Blitz's hook is just the most visible way to see the behavior, but it has been declared as intended. It happens with any form of CC, from flame chompers to Morgana bindings. It probably even works with the newest CC, Grounded, but I haven't tested that. It has to do with the order when the abilities are cast. Ezreal sits in place for a moment before moving, but he's already used the ability and it will go through if it was able to when he hit the button. The CC hits while he's sitting there (and in Blitz's case, the pull follows immediately afterwards) then Ezreal Moves.

Using multiple words for the exact same type of CC is a clarity issue. Entangle is different from Ensnare, so shouldn't Bind be different than Root? The fan made and maintained Wiki has actually done a lot to reduce the confusion, but the in game text still uses at least 3 words for the exact same type of CC.

Ezreal's Q acting the way it does might be for game balance, but Clarity demands it be documented better. We've got abilities that apply spell effects, apply on hit effects, apply both, and apply neither in the game. Having an ability specify what it will apply is something that should probably be standardized across the board.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Your comment before about Thresh said Ancient Coin, when i think you mean the Tank item, which is what i meant off of your post.

Using multiple words for the same thing is flavor, and largely depends on the Champion you're playing (Zyra Roots people, Lux's Light Binding binds people). And regardless of who you're playing, when you actually start playing that person and you use it, unless you're that special, it's going to be pretty obvious it's a root/snare/whatever. People aren't as big as idiots as you think they are, unless we're talking about an outlier crowd.

thats a filthy exploit in my opinion.

Yenn6 votes

That itself is a bug, the flash is cancelling the animation and making it go off instantly. Idk why it's not fixed.

50000000000000002 votes

Isn't that a gameplay mechanic?

Worst Morgana3 votes

Clarity got removed from the rift. So, no.

Epicanian2 votes

Yeah I haven't seen summoner 13 in ages

Fishlord2 votes

This wasn't even an outplay. He literally just flashed and ulted, e'd and she died. Everyone calling every little thing an outplay nowadays. smh.

Elite4Runner1 votes

I see your point, ... but would it have honestly made any difference in this case?

It happened so fast that the Ahri wouldn't have been able to react any quicker, even if the particles did travel in the proper direction.

Really, the only way to fix this is to give champions a limited turn speed.

DrCyanide2 votes

It could be fixed by having the cone particles lock in their direction relative to Cass, rather than being set to "face towards point X".

Elite4Runner1 votes

Sure, but again, would that actually 'fix' anything in regards to how Ahri would have been able to react in this case?

I never said that it couldn't, or shouldn't be 'fixed', .. but for the sake of clarity, it isn't going to improve someone's ability to avoid the interaction.

At best, it helps give a more immediate retrospective understanding of exactly what just happened.

Ultimately though, most people can probably understand in very little time at all.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

By the Ahri knowing that she wasn't safe? "Cass turned so she can't ult me" "loljk". Flash animation cancelling is one thing, but when it's downright deceptive? That's not okay.

Elite4Runner1 votes

But honestly fixing the animation wouldn't change her ability to do this.

Ahri would still not 'know' that she is safe, because she would not be safe.

The only thing that would be 'fixed' is that she would be able to CLEARLY see how she got caught.

Fixing the clarity of this interaction would only mean that the animated cone would be facing her instead of away from her.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Again, it's downright deceptive. You don't see Ahri using Flash E backwards but the animation still going forwards.

Elite4Runner2 votes

None of Ahri's abilities have any regard to facing.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

And? Nothing behind Cass should be affected. Guess what the animation displays?

Elite4Runner1 votes

If you don't understand how this has to do with facing, you don't really understand the problem.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

This. is. the. point. I don't care that Cass can Flash R. There is no reason she should be able to trick players with a bug.

Epicanian1 votes

I mean you could say the same thing about a lot of animation cancels LeeSin Is behind me, there's no way he can kick me into his team! loljk

NineTailedMystic1 votes

At least with Lee it's very blatantly obvious what he wants to do.

Exploiting a bug is not a good thing aka like cinderhulk on pbe back when it just came out on pbe

yeah that's good and all.. now who's the streamer? [zombie-nunu-hearts]

Hélrè1 votes

If they really cared about clarity, they wouldn't hide their mmr formula. And would actually tell you what your mmr is. Or they'd be busy changing a bunch of skillshots. Because a lot of things like morg bind or blitz hook. Their animations don't match their hit boxes, or the latch range.

inplane1 votes

Yeah that's more of a gameplay mechanic than an issue with clarity.

Want an actual clarity issue? Pretend you have never used Taliyah before and try using her W. Judging from it's indicator, what does it do? Because I'm sure a lot of people will say "What the-" when they use it.

Sraeg20131 votes

Also works with Lux's ult and possibly every other spell fixed to a champion's model.

I've seen once how Draven made Ezreal shoot his ult backwards by hitting him with Stand Aside.

DaNinad1 votes

even if cass did it the normal way ahri would have been dead

Papa Slothy1 votes

I don't really see why this matters a whole lot, it functions the exact same way as a regular flash ult
