PSA: As a jungler im NOT obligated to give you my buffs.

LICENSED HOOKER··44 votes·5,008 views

Idk when it was decided that i have to give buffs, but this is actually very annoying.

I play Udyr, the man needs his blue early game. Maybe if u ask for red i might give it, but when you just run rampant and take my whole jungle.. I mean, what am i really to do here.

EDIT: I bet i triggered a lot of Midlaners out there. Good. Shits not cool when ya take it and feed.

Try playing Zac for a while. Whenever I jungle with him I cant get someone to come take blue.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

If my mid-laner doesn't come promptly, I generally just ask my support or ADC (depending on who they are) to come take it.

They'll put it to good use.

zlumpy4 votes

I've sat on a blue buff with 3 hits left for a full minute before waiting on someone to come get it as zac. Its like I stop existing when I jungle. Which is super irritating when shaco comes over to say hi and nobody responds despite my ping storm.

EndlessSorcerer4 votes

I once spent a good minute and a half running around my first red buff as Sejuani when the enemy Shaco invaded me without receiving help.

The sad thing is that I was both queued with and in the same room as our mid-laner and support...

zlumpy9 votes

I just don't get why people won't help screen for shaco. It isn't exactly a mystery what shenanigans he is going to attempt.

Enemy team has Shaco / LeeSin

"Guys please help me if I get invaded which I know I will."

Gets invaded, pings 20 times and no one comes

"Jungler wtf why no ganks?"

"Go fuck yourself idiot."

Yeah that sounds about right.

If you main jungle and aren't consistently passing your buffs to team members who can make better use of it you are doing it wrong. There is no reason for any jungler to require a blue buff after the second one spawns, and 99% of the time that second one should also go to the mid laner.

This from a diamond player.

Aazzlano4 votes

Lmao there are a lot of reasons why you might take the second, or even third blue buff as a jungler. To say 99% of the time it should go to mid proves inflexibility lol. That kind of autonomous playing is exactly the opposite of one of the most important qualities of a good player: adaptability.

There are certainly reasons to take the second one, like needing to hit level 6, having a yasuo mid laner, or your mid laner being down 0-2 or something and being liable to transfer the buff to the opposing mid laner.

In the vast majority of circumstances its best to give that second blue buff to the mid laner, they just hit an important power spike and can best apply that advantage by having the buff themselves: They can wave clear at will and hard push the lane to roam and secure kills and objectives, particularly on the bottom half of the map, at this stage, against under leveled bot lane opponents.

In probably 80% of my jungle matches I will give this buff away to the mid laner. I will absolutely give away every single blue buff after that one. I wont need it. And they can make better use of it. This is basic fundamental gameplay.

Aazzlano3 votes

Lol okay then you do you. I disagree with giving away blues as being basic fundamental gameplay, however. Each game is different and who gets it and when varies between each individual game. I give it to who it will have the most impact on, which is usually myself, but depending on the circumstances and champion picks it could be the mid laner, or even top lane. I don't think it's so black and white.

Then why does every pro team do this starting with second blue.

Its basic fundamental game play. There is a reason it is so. It is the most efficient course of action to take.

No one will disagree that it should go to the person that makes the most impact in the game. That too, is basic fundamental gameplay. Most of the time that person will not be you. Sometimes it will. I give my blues away to ADC's even if they need it to function at an optimal level like Ezreal or Lucian. The point is this, giving it to those player and those roles is generally going to be more impactful because it is a more efficient use of the buff. A good jungler knows how to be efficient without one. Basic stuff. Very basic stuff.

Pro play is a different game than we play. Big difference when you are on a team together and when the guy and the rest of the team are randoms.

And a good jungler knows how to best use the resources on the map. Basic stuff. Very basic stuff. If I could do without blue then so can the midlaner. You make absolutely no sense.

Different than the games you play maybe. Not that much different up here in diamond.

It has nothing to do with whether or not the mid laner CAN do without it. Its OPTIMAL for them to have it in a strategic and tactical sense.

The only one making no sense here is you mate. Sad but true.

Lol lose the high ego. Diamond isn't high elo anymore anyway, and the games are completely different than pro play. They are completely different even from Master level games.

Like I said you are saying it so definitively like it's pre-set. And that is bad advice.

I was Master tier season 4. I've been D1 for 3 seasons. Its not that much different. In fact it's fairly similar.

I've already qualified several scenarios in which the correct choice is for the jungler to take it. The optimal scenario remains unchanged, the most efficient use of the buff remains the same, proper game play remains the same: It should go to the laner most in need of it who can make the greatest impact by having it, usually the mid laner.

Lose the low level ego. It only holds ya back kiddo.

Setences like "If the jungler can do without blue then so can the mid laner" betray a fundamental lack of understanding of what blue buff does for different champions on the map. Blue buff on a jungler is worlds apart from blue buff on a laner and the jungler being able to be effective without it doesn't mean the mid laner can be, particularly as your mid laner in this scenario is very possibly trying to match up against an enemy mid who DOES have blue access, and that's a cripping handicap for the one devoid of the buff.

Blue is a situational power buff in ganks (slightly more AP, lower cooldowns if multiple rotations are necessary) with a bonus of situationally increased map uptime (going back for mana isn't a thing with it). It won't always make a difference, because it can. For mid laners it means hugely empowered ability to harass and shove for a long period (= inflated chance of kills and roams, ability to ensure enemies such as Zed cannot outpush and auto-win the lane). Blue buff fundamentally changes the gameplay of a mana-using mid laner in a hugely empowering way, blue buff makes hardly any difference to a jungler beyond the first one. On top of that, "one jungler has blue and the other doesn't" makes very little difference to the jungle matchup beyond first clear whereas in mid lane uneven blue buff distribution can turn the lane.

You need to put a lot more thought into stuff like buffs because incredibly basic arguments such as "It's not that big a deal for the jungler, therefore it can't be a huge deal for anyone else" are just flat out wrong. You should have asked yourself a long time ago why so many mid laners felt like the blue was so essential to them and found at least one of the varying reasons behind that phenomenon. Of course, there are situations where the jungler should keep it, but that basically boils down to player skill and the question "Will they be able to avoid giving it away?". If your mid laner seems competent and capable of staying alive for the duration of the buff then you should absolutely give it to them.

Aazzlano2 votes

I never said it wasn't a big deal for me. I get 15% increased AP and 10% CDR. As an Eve jungle main, that translates into a HUGE increase in DPS. I also never said it wasn't important to have on midlaners. Also, we are talking about dynamic queue. In which I solo. I'm not going to trust the mid laner without good reason. He better be Ziggs or LB or something if he wants second blue. This ain't LCS. This ain't Worlds. It's not even high elo. The games are nothing like those.

My point was that it's a judgment call game to game. I never said I don't give away blue, idk where people are getting that. But as the person who makes the most impact in every game I play as jungle, it makes more sense to keep blue on myself where it will influence the most around the map. But like I said, its about adapting to the situation. Saying giving away buffs is the best option the majority of the time is completely wrong. There are many factors which go into it.

It might behoove you to ingratiate your self to that random premade and give them blue buff on occasion. You'd be surprised at just how something that simply can cement the element of teamwork in the groups mind and you'd likely find they will be very willing to comply and work with you. Because you decided to work with THEM first.

Be a good teammate. That's how you get others to be a good teammate to you. Play the game the right way, do the fundamental things, organize and communicate positively and people NATURALLY want to get on the same page as the guy doing all the organizing. It can be that simple.

I have. And yes, I have experienced that as well. Even in diamond there are some players who are just selfish and refuse to participate with and for the team (trick2gg, good god do I hate playing with that guy. There is NO player more self centered and less willing to work with the team than him. No one likes playing with him.) so yeah, we all deal with that. It happens some times. It won't be the majority of the time. Most of the time the things you put into the game, the things you put into your teams, they will be reciprocated by like minded individuals who understand that a team game takes team work in order to achieve success. You can't really control the other players, but you CAN control yourself.

Try it. For the next 50 matches, regardless of what happens, when you play jungle, give away your second blue buff to your mid laner. REGARDLESS of circumstance. Come back and tell me how much more often that laner was willing to work with you for any goal or plan you might have verbalized. The difference is likely to be quite significant.

Probably a better example if you want to pick a mana dependent jg. Try Diana. Or something that actually makes sense regarding your argument.

What are you talking about? You run out of mana before the teamfight even starts. Q deals so much damage, you just can't not poke with it.

I give buffs once they prove that they are competent and will use them well. The 0/4 25CS Ahri might as well stay in lane when I'm taking blue because they aren't getting shit

LICENSED HOOKER2 votes

That i can respect, but when the mid laner is kinda sketchy and take it to **then **go and get out played by Ahri as a Talon ...

Why ask for it..

JamesTheMage176 votes

Ikr? My team is always begging me for my buffs and constantly yelling at me for not sharing them, so I end up getting like one red and one blue the entire match, and if I don't give it to them every single time they ask for it (basically when it's back up) it's apparentally my fault if we lost because "I should contribute if I want us to win". ITS MY BUFF.. That's like saying we lost because the adc wouldn't share his cs with the support. Total BS. And everyone takes it without asking, then when I tell them don't do it again, they threaten me because it's apparentally my job to let them have it.

LICENSED HOOKER2 votes

this... if were mid game and we team fight, then fine. However if were still laning why do you need a blue buff if you're just going to die soon..

As a rule of thumb I generally give the buff to the midlaner if they require mana regen, but yes, as the title says, it's my decision to give it to you, not an obligation.

Special mention for the midlaners that are 0/3 even before the second buff appears in the map and they demand it from you, hah summoner 11 .

Swaid4 votes

Public Service Announcement for the Junglers from me personally:

  • I don't want your blue/red, I don't expect ganks, and I don't care if you get a few minions from my lane. I'm specked for mana regeneration ever since the mage rework and I always sport gold runes just in case I get shut out of minion feed.
  • Anything you do that benefits me in the laning phase, I see as a bonus, a privilege; not an obligation.
  • That being said, I may get distracted from time to time and forget to keep map aware, so that tussle in the jungle where I showed up late or forgot to show up at all? Sorry about that.
  • All I expected out of my Jungler is to keep Drake secure, keep the other jungler on his/her toes, and help out bottom lane (they always seem to need it the most).
  • If I'm losing my lane or its pushed too far, I understand if you chose to ignore my lane; a lost cause is a lost cause after all.

Diana is actually mana intensive specially if her match up is against ranged because she needs her shield and she can't afford mana items since that will make her lack damage and hence make her useless (since she has little utility)

BluePolarizer2 votes

unless it is the very first blue buff the ranged vs melee thing doesn't matter, and guess which blue buff absolutely cannot be donated?

Well.... that's not entirely true. Have you tried giving the first blue to someone like lucian? is basically saying you won't get any gank til 6 since I have to farm 2 more camps slowly because I'm giving you my blue but....you pretty much can get fed on your own now that youc an spam your abilities, right?

It's immensely inefficient to give blue buff to any non-AP champion because it gives them more AP, thus more damage. Red buff is only slightly more lenient. Anyone with high attack speed can take red, although the ADC will still likely have both the most attack speed and the most ease in applying it.

BluePolarizer4 votes

early on 15% AP is not worth the jungler being oom and being unable to gank or farm, resulting in a 4v5. even after laner has one big ticket AP item the AP from blue is worth less than 300 gold.

midgame, sure. level 6? not unless im playing manaless or autoattack junglers.

Wortless? Those 15% AP every time they use a spell is HELLA LOT. Btw you also get 10%CDR and endless mana. If you desperately need your second blue buff as jungler you seem to play it wrong. Exceptions may be amumu, diana etc.

No that you desperately need it...more like it makes ganking more often possible. Diana Jungle can work without blue, to famr she only needs her passive and her shield, however to do a gank she needs a full rotaation which means around 2/3 of her mana.

Late game is when everything is free game.

I only get miffed, as a mid laner, when a manaless jungler doesn't even offer blue. I mean seriously? Is 10% cdr really that good on you?

It depends... It CAN help if your mid laner uses a lot of ap like Leblanc or fizz.. but if someone like yasuo and zed ask for a damn blue no... And the birds camp, never let them take that. It grants you vision with your smite. I'm sure you know this already.. hope they know that too.
