PSA: Bullying teammates, WONT help us win the game..

LICENSED HOOKER··112 votes·4,484 views

Stop saying snide comments like

"Oh nice job Mid" After mid dies or "Nice shot" After a teammate that's clearly playing poorly misses a skill shot.

Its not helpful period and definitely does not increase our odds of winning . If anything it just opens room to bickering, and the more time spent talking starts causing everyone to lose focus and its basically a snowball effect for the team, game play.

Plus im sure that person you keep saying rude things to is just going to feel worse if they haven't muted u yet..

Just please, if you know that you can easily get toxic type /mute all when the game starts, or something triggers you..

EDIT: It seems like i've started a toxic feud in these comments.. Im not going to silence myself because im speaking truth that has hurt your ego...

I agree with this. On the spirit of the topic i will share the story of one memorable game.

It was way back, cant even remember the season. It was the time that Yorick got his first round of nerfs, still stronger than today. I was playing Yorick against Olaf and had a field day. On our mid lane the exact opposite. Our Cass was having a huge trouble called Le Blanc. And by huge i mean 0/5 huge. Our jungler started flaming her. Out bot joined also. But then i offered her a lane swap. "Cass, Olaf is pretty weak now. Want a swap so you can farm till you become a late game monster? I can handle LB pretty easily."

So it happened. Next recall (sadly with another Cass death) we swaped. Since top was a playground for me and didnt had to recall for that time, i had the money and bought a Spirit Visage. Went mid and LB went ham on me bringing me to 30% hp. But 20 sec later i was full hp. This story continued. LB was bursting me, i was healing and farming happily. 5 minute later they made the decision to swap back. And so we did. The swaps went back and forth a couple times until we went back to Cass vs Olaf top.

Cass was having it easy top, since Olaf could not do anything to her. Her farm skyrocked and managed to snatch 2 kills. The game went on with me participating on scirmishes being the annoying neverdying meatshield. Since Cass was at that island called top and my team had a fed Yorick to fight with them, the complains dissapeared. Teambattles came and top laners joined the fights. Cass was finally a monster getting multiple kills. The teamfights were won clearly. The game was ours.

The moral of the story is that if i joined the flame squad, the game would go to hell. But instead i offered a solution. And that worked. After all it is a teamgame and we should play as one. I never flame, try to offer solutions and keep the team spirit up. After all i am a support main and have to rely on teamplay. It is not easy to fight 5 enemies, a lot harder if you have to fight your own team as well. Stay positive summoners.

PS: Muting is not a solution to the problem. Is a solution to the symptom. So while it helps, it is not an excuse for flaming.

This is the type of attitude we should have as a community. If mid dies, how do we come back to that? We could flame him, or we could do the rational thing and move on, it's already been done; mid is dead and how do we counter the fact that our lane is out for 10 seconds? In LCS, junglers substitute the position. I was watching the Fire vs. Ice match, the support went mid and covered it.

what if mid died 13 times before the laning phase even ends?

The answer is simple; Anything but heckle, berate and bully them. They're probably already salty or tilted (most likely both), no need to make the pile bigger. If you just let them get some assists, possibly even a kill or two, even they will be useful in some way, shape or form. Even if it's just being a distraction.

... Or heck, know that tactic where people intentionally target and tilt a specific player to extremes? If they're employing that one, the counter to it is to use the targeted teamate as bait and wreck their asses when they come to tilt him/her more. If you keep doing that, their plan will backfire and THEY will tilt. If the "Bait" dies during the mission, tell them to go "Worth" in all-chat. GG.

am not sure what is what you said even means. i can't comprehend it. anyway. when I see people doing bad. i go to op.gg profile. and when i see them with 42% winrate and not much of anythign done yet am getting matched with them i wonder how they aren't bronze 5

Very well, allow me to simplify: First paragraph: Don't make them feel worse, don't be a dick, if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all. It doesn't help. At all.

Second paragraph: If the enemy team is targeting a specific player on your team a lot, DON'T JUST LET THEM CAMP YOUR ALLY'S ASS OFF. Help out a bit. Use that they're camping, bring some allies and turn it around. League is a team game after all.

Simplified even more: Don't be a dick, be nice, help your team.

They will be if they play enough games. That is the ultimate problem with ELO, eventually you will get to your right skill, but most people never play enough games to get there, and its not even close. So many bronze players in plat right now xd.

Not sure how serious you are, but person with a 42% winrate in plat will have a very high winrate in bronze. It actually scares me how bad bronze players are.

Well the most likely thing is they are in the wrong ELO if they have a 42% winrate. However it is also possible they are unlucky over a smaller sample size.

Yes, but if I've been pushed to tower for the last 15 minutes, and have asked for a gank since min 10, yeah. You haven't ganked, and it's your fault.

Marshbouy1 votes

In that case it is my fault and i will improve. Even still it's pointless anger and bullying and "please help me, ive been pushed to tower all game" will definitely get me to gank you, repeatedly unless they are fed. Most of the time its a lux or a high waveclear champion that keeps pushing to the enemy turret, getting ganked, dying, then complaining about the jungler not helping them when there wasn't a way for the jungler to help. (bonus points if you have already donated them a buff)

EpsteinDidntKHS1 votes

You shouldn't gank losing lanes.

Troll for Trump1 votes

You assume losing is 0/5 or something.

You should gank them before they lose.

You should find the gank ridiculously easy when it's something like "gnar vs Darius, ADC top vs Illaoi" etc.

I really hate when junglers don't gank me when I'm against a ranged champ which has little to no mobility. You need to PRESSURE the opponents in those matchups.

EpsteinDidntKHS1 votes

I would gank if you were vs a fed Vayne or Graves top, cause those people seem to have no map awareness for some reason. But if your like that one guy who goes 0/3 in 5 minutes, then goes 'noob jungler no help'...

This is kind of off-topic, but one time my husband got a penta as Zyra, and then during the very next fight threw out an ult that hit exactly zero enemies. Maokai pinged "enemy missing" once, right where the ult was doing its thing and I just about died laughing, because the tree was throwing shade. But unless something is genuinely funny (not in a mean-spirited way) or helpful (again, not in a ragey way), keep it to yourself if you care about winning. I main support and am honestly not as inclined to go to great lengths for my ADC if they have an obviously angry attitude. And THEY do better when they are calm and focused. A bit of adrenaline makes you more alert, but the type of excessive adrenaline spikes that occur when you become enraged about something, or are raged at, venture into panic attack territory and actually impede performance (as League statistics show, but many players ignore).

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes

I think people fail to realize that on the internet we cant tell what you feel, so even if it was genuinely a playful "enemy missing" on your death.

It still comes off as a troll situation unless you type something like "haha xd" in chat

Honestly, I would say more than 50% of the time that person you think is toxic; if you actually listened to them, you'd win the game.

Did you ever think the people aren't toxic but maybe you're just kind of sissy so taking directions makes you feel emasculated?

Just a thought.

There is a difference between... "Next time, don't extend so far without ward coverage ok?" "You ****lord, stop feeding and go kill yourself!"

One is helpful(The first one) and one is toxic, and unhelpful(the second one). Granted, some people will get upset over the first comment, and they do need to grow up and deal with constructive criticism. But the second comment is never necessary, or helpful. And the second comment is the type the OP is concerned with. See the difference?

Dude, 'Next time dont extend so far without ward coverage' IS TAKEN AS TOXIC BY MOST OF THIS COMMUNITY. And it will be thoroughly met with some snarky comment like 'Play your own game' or 'dont tell me what to do you want me to feed?' or the classic 'Fuck you'.

My comment wasn't in regards to what is actually toxic, it's what this community DEEMS as toxic, which is basically everything. People are too immature and prideful to ask themselves 'Is this guy making good calls and should we follow his lead?'

Maybe you should work on your hearing/reading then.

Prevention is key, retroactive judgement is for the lazy and the lazy have no place making any judgments.

At this point, I'd say simply use the mute function, but of course some idiot will argue against what someone was paid to put in. I mean, HOW DARE THEY give you a mute function when you can come here instead and complain about human nature; to hell with your snowflake, get your holier then hands off the keyboard and onto the mouse, click mute and be done with it.

If you're responding any other way, I suggest you have serious control issues and to seek therapy. The ones where they give you pills to drug you out so we can put you in the corner and you can drool your pretty little head out...or roll ranked, BUT WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Why does control have to be an issue?

Eternal Zen1 votes

Why does control have to be an issue?

The issue is actually the detachment from reality, to be fair. The only thing you ever have any actual control over is yourself. As cliche as that may sound to some it is absolutely true and in my experience very few people truly understand this. When you attempt to control someone elses behavior you are taking an inefficient and usually unproductive approach. The thing a person should be doing is controlling their own behavior. People will follow the lead of someone with respect. If you treat others with respect it is for more likely for them to assist and work with you. If you try and control others you by definition you do not respect these people because by trying to control them you inherently see them as objects and not other human beings. People do not like to be controlled and will instinctive rebel and lash out at those who try to do so. "Fight the Power" is not just a catchy phrase that many people identify with, it is a biological truth and even necessity. We are pre-programmed to behave in such a manner. So, to answer your question the real issue is that people don't understand their own behavior and how it affects others. Because of this you lose games. Understand that your behavior directly affects the outcome of YOUR game. When you become negative your team becomes negative. Lead by example or don't lead because if you cannot be an example you cannot be a good leader.

Edit: To be clear I should state (though I feel sad that I feel the need to state this clearly) - You can only control your behavior, it is a fallacy to think you can control another persons behavior, an illusion you perpetuate to yourself that only you believe.

The military uses control everyday as do many other factions. Applied behavior analysis is currently using forms of control to change behavior through consequences. The system of reporting is a form of control to promote healthy gameplay. In theory, you can try to control some of the players on your team through various methods as well, of course, not all of them will respond the way you want them to but some might.

Regardless, some people find it helpful to feel like they are in control and that may be benefit enough.

Using the military as a counter example is a fallacy. People who join the military consciously agree to the terms of their service/employment and hence have agreed to being controlled. To pretend it is any other way is to take responsibility for ones actions away from the individual, which I think is a fundamentally bad thing to do. Again, the only control you have is over your own body and it's actions. Many people agree to be controlled given various imposing circumstances but given opportunity and a circumstance that is not favorable to the person trying to be controlled, they will rebel and fight back. There are no circumstances in League of Legends that are powerful enough to consistently suppress these instinctive tendencies in humans. Some people are more submissive by nature and will allow themselves to be controlled but as the renowned toxicity of this game proves, that is generally not the case for the majority of players. Control is an illusion make no mistake. You can tell yourself otherwise if you like but you are only lying to yourself.

Military force has been used to control both enlistees and enemies. The church uses methods of control to push religion. Schools use control to keep students inline. Airports use control to make sure people are safe. Controls are in place every day and in every organization to keep people in line. Weaker people let themselves be controlled by stronger people. Control over animals is possible via rewards. Behavior control is used on PTSD victims and people with autism. Control method exist, to think that they don't is short sighted.

In a way, I am controlling you to keep posting and could probably troll you to post some more, so yeah, control. Does everyone respond the same to one type of control method? No. But finding the method they do respond to is the key.

I mean, what you're saying isn't wrong but... we're talking about two different things. I would argue that what you are claiming is control is not actually control. It is perceived control that people willing accept because it serves their best interest to do so. There is a difference and you've mostly made this a semantics argument.

Also, it is pretty obvious I struck some chord with you being that you feel the need to attempt passive aggressive insults. I think this is completely unnecessary and uncalled for. I'm not sure what issues you have or the behavior I have demonstrated to provoke this from you but I apologize for both. I'm sure a part of you feels that you have this 'upper hand' perspective in this... conversation? and that's fine. I might point out though that you too are responding? Why? I don't know. What interest do you have if you prefer that I didn't respond? To me that says you really just want to be right and unchallenged... which is fine. Tentacle Advisor4 votes

I don't understand why there are negative comments in this thread. Op is right. Bashing your opponents for not doing well does not make them perform better than they already aren't. In fact, it does the complete opposite. You may have that small percentage of people who perform better if heavily criticized, but for the most part, your ally is only going to perform worse. Also, let's not forget the fact that they may be losing because their opponent is just better than they are. Not every game goes in your favor, and players need to learn to respect that.

That mute option that everyone seems to be flocking to, isn't a solution. It's a just the simplest method of keeping one's mentality from tilting negatively. It does not solve the fact that that player's teammate(s) is/are toxic. The issue here is the fact that players are are demoralizing their own teammates and then refuse to retain the blame for the loss (if the game goes sour).

Also, saying shit like "thank god that game is over. this [insert laner here] was such trash." or "I can't believe we won that game with this garbage [insert laner here]" if you win (or lose) is just not necessary. All that does is ruin that player's games that follow.

Too many people blame their teammates, or hone in on one person to take all their frustration. These players need a timeout...but I fear we'd lose a solid 1/5 of the playerbase.

Baunjo1 votes

What's frustrating is players like me, who although I have been toxic in the past and have grown up a lot in that regard, genuinely try to help you. They give you advice to help you win lane, they suggest not making certain decisions and explaining why.

But the actual action of missing a skillshot or dying to your laner is not what makes people flame usually.

It's when you tell your blitzcrank to be patient with his Q, maybe wait till you get closer. But instead he consistently just throws his Q immediately when the enemy steps out of minions, or appears out of the fog of war.

It's when you tell your mid laner he should recall with how low of health he has because dying for a few more cs is not worth it.

Then, your blitz gets mad and does something silly like leaves bot lane and refuses to support bot lane anymore.

Then your mid is just tilted beyond belief and insists on having ganks rather than just chilling out and farming.

People need to be more patient, yes, not flame their team when they make mistakes. But those same people who miss the skillshot or die mid need to listen to players that genuinely want to win and know they can help you do that.

Jasiwel1 votes

I agree, for sure. Helping other players and trying to help other players is how a community grows positively.

However, I'm indicating the crowd of individuals that cave into the gamer rage and take it out on others. If I'm getting destroyed as an ADC and it's very obvious I'm doing poorly, a teammate saying I'm "garbage", like "this quinn" or "this MF", then going off on how I misplayed a fight (not giving actual advice, mind you) isn't going to help me. I know that I screwed up and that I can improve, but degrading me isn't going to suddenly make me tiers better or recover the Gold gap between teams.

Also, I seriously believe that the removal of TeamBuilder has led to more toxicity in uneven matchups. For example, it's difficult to improve myself as an ADC when my opponents (both ADC and Support) are at the level of my Jungle/Middle (which is where I'm better) - the other laners have more experience and comprehension of the lane. If I needed to practice, I'd hop into TeamBuilder and patiently wait for a match, most players in TB understood it was a practice environment, and there was very little toxicity compared to other queues. TB also altered Matchmaking to place you against opponents who were in a similar boat as you - simply wanting to play against others for the sake of practicing or becoming familiar wit ha champion. We don't have that anymore and that means I'm playing against a Gold/Plat ADC when in reality I'm a Silver ADC at best.

I had a post like this, and I was told that being toxic helps teammates learn more than being nice, because people will remember better if it's drilled into their head.
