Riot i think its time to adress a really unstoppable issue... Ping spamming..

Although the picture isn't from my game, a few games ago i played with a Pantheon who clearly sprinkled some sea salt on his tongue and went at it with everyone. Even after muting him he still spammed, its quite frustrating because i cant mute my sound ( hearing sound helps me stay alert) and often ping spamming like that causes fps drops ( at least for me anyway.) Not to mention half the time that i ever encounter ping spamming the person is like a few feet away and is more then likely able to have helped you rather then watching you die.

EDIT: THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE RIOT, DONT TRY TO IGNORE IT LIKE YOU IGNORE THOSE BOTS ON SR...

Agree completely, either make it a little box next to mute or throw it in with mute entirely. Spam pinging can be so frustrating.

LICENSED HOOKER11 votes

This is what i had in mind, the score board is already cluttered with so much info that simply muting them also mutes their pings

Cause after all, if you have to mute someone it means _generally _ they'v been toxic.

Elikain2 votes

Actually, they can make it outside of the scoreboard, like they have with DJ Sona's "play/stop" music button.

And as far as the scoreboard being cluttered goes, the whole point of an updated UI was to rearrange the need to know information and clean up the screen. So i'm saying that it isn't cluttered at all. That's just my opinion, though.

Supreme Senpai695 votes

It's completely annoying but even worse is that it forcibly moves the chat such that if anyone wants to communicate with each other, the person pinging makes it impossible.

LICENSED HOOKER2 votes

Yeah this is another thing, because i dont know about you guys but when i play i really dont focus on chat so if someone says something like cait no F and someone happens to ping spam anyone on our team. That miss of information could have been something i could have really needed in a team fight to make a judgement on a play.

Troll for Trump2 votes

Yeah, also, Riot has moved certain abilities to be linked with sound; RekSai Ult and Sion ult for instance, so sound is an indicator for those things, among other abilities.

Might as well remove Ping since we have premades amiright?

When you call missing, ping danger down the enemies most likely path, shove the wave, just to hear "an ally has been slain".

Wait for it.... wait for it....

ALLY IS TARGETING THE TOWER ALLY IS TARGETING THE TOWER ALLY IS TARGETING THE TOWER ALLY IS TARGETING THE TOWER.

Fuck off.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

When you back off and the dead ally is cussing you out to get the tower, then seconds later that lane gets ganked, there is no better feeling in the world.

Jeddy0172 votes

Let's see: I am Lux. Tower has most it HP. I have no idea where the enemy Jungler is (let's say it's Lee Sin). The enemy mid left bot & appears to be returning mid (let's say it's Zed). All I got for survivability is my W, Barrier & Flash. No, hell no, I'm just going to push the wave & back off. Yes, I could push, attack the tower a bit & then try to outplay them to escape. But I would waste both of my summoner spells just to get the tower to 80% hp.

For the love of god, I get you're upset that my lane opponent roamed or TPed down & killed you, but not every champ is a Jax, Tryndamere, Trundle or Nasus with 400 stacks. I can't instantly take the tower in time before they get back & the Jungler could come & stop my push.

DartExplosion105 votes

Yeah, the ping volume isn't cutting it. I'd like a button to mute pings from individuals.

MosesTheTroll5 votes

That Zac getting those objectives though.

Pentarina Only4 votes

I like to ping ? after my retarded teammates do something really stupid.

Ruukuegg15 votes

Generates so much salt. Really not a good thing to do. Try something constructive instead of pouring salt into a situation they probably already know was bad.

Wimbledofy2 votes

I find that it only really generates salt if they say something rude before or after the ping. For example if I'm adc and I haven't been laning well and my support tells me something like "dude ur getting poked too much l2dodge" and then I die and he starts spam pinging ? me then it would probably put me on tilt or annoy me. But let's say we are doing good and I mess up slightly and die/miss a kill/miss a cannon minion/or do something super obviously stupid and my supports starts to ping me I'd assume it's a joke or something like "i saw that dude."

I'm currently in a week long convo with someone about this. I'm all for the "?" when someone does something dumb but apparently that's toxic. You're suppose to just suck it up and watch people do dumb things because any criticism is considered toxic now a days.

LICENSED HOOKER8 votes

No, your supposed to talk to them in chat if the darius top decides to engage vs a nasus when you just pinged that vi is coming to gank and he dies you dont just mass "?" his death thats just going to make either Him tilt and start to play bad which leads to feeding or the more likely him to argue with you and do the same "?" when you do an honest mistake or get out played...

bill8411 votes

No it's not criticism when you you do that though. It is more saying "you are an idiot" and not giving them ay advice. Criticism would be something like "you should not have engaged there"

Not really It's closer to "." and even closer to "What the fuck (was that)?"

IGotScuttleCrabs1 votes

But if using it in a "what are you doing!?" context then there's nothing else to really say. Again, teamfight just broke out and adc decides wolves looks more appealing. The enemy Leona dives vayne and and Bards like, oh a chime popped up, better get it. It goes without saying they did a wrong thing. Don't really need to tell them what to do better. Just a simple "hey you let me down" ping is easier.

BetaDude4011 votes

Again, that's not criticism. That's you being mad at them and spamming the MIA ping.

Criticism is something one can build off of in order to improve - you are just calling them 'dumb' it doesn't help. It's just insulting. You opinion is that if someone plays badly or makes a mistake it is your right to insult them. That's pretty childish and something I'm sure you wouldn't do in a workplace setting or in public with a stranger. Generally speaking if you wouldn't speak that way to someone on the street you shouldn't be doing it in league.

IGotScuttleCrabs2 votes

People suck at reading. I said if someone does something dumb. Not is dumb. Example: see someone walk into a wall. You could give constructive criticism like "hey that's a wall. You shouldn't walk into it". But that's kinda obvious. Or, you can job sit there with a metaphorical "?" pinging wondering what the hell that person is doing.

Weasel Kensei4 votes

People try to spout "but you need that communication potentialy still."

They arnt trying to be useful for one. Second, the constant ping spamming makes people IGNORE IMPORTANT PINGS because theyre trying to ignore the constant pinging from one asshat.

It needs to be put to a vote like surrender, and with a time limit "Would you like to mute Player-X's pings for 5 minutes."

This way if they learn their lesson maybe they will stop spamming, and give good pings after the mute.

Can it be abused? Sure, but its probably not going to be abused nearly as much as you have to put up with ping spammers.

SlashStriker3 votes

someone is AFK at the pool ping them 1 mln times so they wake up meanwhile you annoy other teamates

Nameless Voice3 votes

A fair compromise would be to only allow one ping from a muted player every X seconds, e.g. a much lower limit than normal unmuted players have.

Finally a decent suggestion from somebody.

This is legit genius. I had a game that a Vi throlled because our fed Talon took blue. So she followed him around and ping spammed the whole time. Even if he had her muted, he had to deal with the annoying constant pings. Just have one, say every 5-10 seconds sound off would have helped for sure.

I'm not condoning taking blue from the jungler w/o any permission, but c'mon. Trolling for that when he's fed and she was feeding? I'll never understand this because it punishes the whole f'ing team

Drehirth2 votes

eh idk there's a fine line. Of course the person spam pinging after something bad happens is annoying, but I find that teammates generally won't respond or even unintentionally overlook something if you only ping it once vs like 3 times.

Have had quite alot of

me: " ? I just showed that their jungler was near bot why start a fight"

support "ping me off next time"

when I actually did ping it, and it doesn't happen nearly as often if I ping it multiple times

LICENSED HOOKER4 votes

Ok i can respect 3-4 pings because yes some people are just so tunnle visioned and focused on csing or bot lane etc.

But multiple pings thats what really does it..

NichtHurz4 votes

Most of the time I double ping stuff so people realize there's something to look out for. Even 3 times shouldn't be a problem, but randomly ping spamming or just spamming ping like 10 times in a few seconds is just too much.

ThatHaleState2 votes

Muting a teammate ceases being able to see their chat logs. Muting an enemy means you cant see chat logs or hear their champs emotes. It about time that muting a teammate removes pings too. If we are upset enough to mute them, we obviously do not care about their input.

Zedex2 votes

Just force people who are unable to use pings properly to type. They'll change their tune in a hell of a hurry. Pings are much easier then typing, for me. That would be a neat deterrent.

Xenos111112 votes

You can mute ping sound specifically IIRC

Could be wrong but I seem to remember there being an option to do that.

facemelter7102 votes

If my team would listen the first time I ping I would agree. But they don't. How many pings does it take for bronze Kat to not face check a brush at 40 mins? 1?2?3? The world may never know.

I WILL TROLL YOU1 votes

This is a joke right ? There are a total of 26 pings over 42 minutes. That makes it about 1 ping every 96 seconds. How is that spamming ? Every ranked game I play their is far more pinging in far less a window of time.

What? This wasn't from a 14-hour game!?!

No, I'm pretty sure this game went 14 hours long!

precambria1 votes

In the Ops screen cap it does look like the player is just trying to direct their attention to objectives not just randomly pinging as harassment, the pings are in series of 3 and show intent it may seem a bit excessive so they might be frustrated but clearly they care about winning.

This is me sometimes especially when my team is just wandering, it works it really does sometimes people need direction and typically they appreciate it went we end up winning because of it although their pride will prevent them from thanking you or they might just say "ggez" to the other team because well they are children. Often being the odd man out in the new dynamic queue I would rather the 3-4 bro's ping what their plan is than just pretend you are a ward and than blame you when you don't know what the strat is "stupid rando" really it would have taken all the effort of one ping to prevent a throw.

Edit: nm I looked again there is 7 yellow pings in a row this person is raging but it still is not the 35 pings on top of your champion that some people do.

Twtheo2 votes

I was merely pointing out that this guy thought it was 26 pings over 42 minutes, but it's actually 42 seconds summoner 13

TallyZrg1 votes

You can adjust the volume of pings (individually) so that isn't as distracting.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

No you can't, you can only adjust ping for everyone

TallyZrg1 votes

I meant separate from other game sounds.

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes

But my teammates

TallyZrg2 votes

I said adjust, not mute :P

Whenever I get ping spammers I turn my ping sounds down to a gentle chime so my ears don't ring after the game.

falldown0101 votes

not tryng to be the bad guy here, but sometimes people spamm ping for a reason il give you a recent example, we were losing but came back so my team decides to do baron, while were seriously behind in towers, so they go to baron, i push, i retreat, because the 5 man team was their way, and start to ping

i spammed, but it didnt do anything, they got baron low , and the 5 man jumps kills everyone, steals baron and then they tell me to stfu, <.< like for real, there was a reason i spammed ping, if someone is pining becareful, there is bound to come something your way ..

but then again, there are also bad examples, but just throwing my 2 cents out there

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes

Ok so with the information given.

Wouldnt it have been better to help them vs to ping spam them that they're doing something wrong.

its kinda like ( yes im using this metaphor) watching your kids drink, rather then drinking with them to make sure they dont od?

Lycanoon1 votes

I hate when I get the ? pings as an ADC...or as the support. HELLO! What do you think I'm doing? So I'm at half health, I have eyes on the map, I know where the enemy's are...I'm not leaving lane.

How about those annoying ass ! pings...I mean, c'mon...If I'm well fed, and the enemy is down to half health or is undergeared, I'm going in for the kill...get mad @ me for taking the kill. Sit down and shut up...you still get KP/A for it fool.

Then you get those assist pings...why would anyone wanna go assist top lane when they're up kills and only 1v1? Scared that you're about to get bum-rushed? I wonder why...

Moving To pings are just as bad...we get it, your coming. SHUT UP ALREADY!

Chogath "The PINGS! THEY BURN!"

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes
