I try to be as nice to my (good) supports as possible. I won't ever intentionally steal a ward from my support, but occasionally I get supports that actually try to give me the ward kills and its just <3 <3 <3.

I seriously love playing adc, and getting that 1 in a million support feels so good that I do everything I can to make sure they keep playing support. We need more good supports in this game.

adc: wtf why kill that ward that was my xp

me: oh ok I'll go face check that turret to see if a ward is there for you...

I've had an ADC or two before ping be to back off from pinks and normal wards so they can kill it and get the 15-30g... I cry.

Trias0004 votes

I actually always let my adc last hit wards as a support. I don't see any difference between this and killing minions.

That's once they actually read the Patch Notes, though.

Ward XP follows the same rules as minion XP, so it's split with nearby allies. Unless an ally expects you to leave lane entirely (XP radius is pretty large so that'd be a terrible play) that shouldn't be an issue.

What other ways are you looking to close the gap for support exp differences? These changes definitely help, but I don't think they're enough alone?

RiotMeddler3 votes

Adjustments to XP earned for champions significantly below the average level (normally supports), XP granted from champion kills near you when you're dead (supports, melee ones especially, often die first, which makes them more underleveled, which makes them die first even more).

Just a question regarding that: Wouldn´t the "better" support (aka the one that wards more), get a XP disadvantage? Simply because the enemy team has more wards to kill/get XP from?

Or is the XP amount so neglectable that that wouldnt matter?

Hinagiku332 votes

I'm wondering this too, especially in low level play where people don't ward much. I usually only ever see the "debris" that shows where a ward used to be anyway.

Zach Sandwhich2 votes

Well considering that if one support isn't warding well, do you really think he's going to actually buy a sweeper to get rid of the Sightstone wards?

RiotMeddler5 votes

Amount of XP's fairly small, so the vision advantage from such a circumstance should massively dominate the ward XP. Additionally number of wards someone's going to be able to kill in the first place is pretty restricted by ways to detect them (red trinket CD, Raptor buff, pink placement etc).

Linna Excel35 votes

Except your ADC or jungler will probably steal the ward and its XP from you.

This... always... happens... anyways... Jesus this will turn into a fcking minigame

Hide and Seek: Ward Edition. Maybe Riot's trying to make people buy pink more.

Watch as trolls buy tons of wards to level the enemy team up.

Vayne "report this Nami, keeps stealing my ward XP"

Because if anyone is going to bitch at you for clearing wards, it is a Vayne player.

Dear Riot.

Please make this exp only applicable when you have a support item.

That is all.

No, I love the buff (as a jungler). I didn´t really know that they changed it, but killing a ward gave me lvl 6/11 so often already, it´s amazing :)

I think the best solution is to let people with item 2049 item 2045 get the EXP to avoid people stealing exp from them. Maybe even bonus gold like +1 or +2 gold.

inb4 supports on opposite teams partner up to feed each other xp

Cynicatt6 votes

Cool, now my ADC can be even more ahead in level than me when he wanders over for the soul purpose of taking the ward kill from me.

Good, was sick of being that Braum support being 3 levels behind because I can never stick to a team mate that farms, only those that go in blindly and nearly get me and themselves killed.

SociopathFriend4 votes

Yessssss- I'm a minority I know- but I long again for the days when Supports shed blood and tears to try and destroy every ward they could.

FancyKiwi2 votes

Reminds me of the time I was taking out a pink ward and our mid lane Viktor stood there just so he could steal the last hit. Happened in like season 4 and I still think that guy is an ass.

Trias0001 votes

If it was a minion instead, would it make him an ass too? If not, what is the difference?

Spacesuit Spiff3 votes

On the one hand yeah, on the other hand 30g isnt worth some mouthbreather possibly tilting. Ive seen people afk over less.

Trias0001 votes

FancyKiwi said nothing about tilting, just trying to last hit the ward. I'm not saying it justifies trolling, flaming etc. But as a midlaner Viktor can simply utilize that gold more effectively. Otherwise, why not just farm minions as a support? There's no difference, gold is the same.

Battlecast Sona3 votes

why is it that he's entitled to all the gold on the map?

you posted above as well, but not everyone plays support as a total "feed my adc/everyone else everything ever". It's literally 1 minion or less from the laner, but yes, if someone just stood there and waited for me to finish a ward I would be upset too. If everyone is helping to finish the ward asap I don't really care who gets the last hit, but if some guy is standing there just to steal it then I'd get frustrated too. It's a difference in intent - if your intent is just to clear vision and you happen to get the ward, I don't mind. But if you're sitting there specifically to attempt to steal gold from literally the single lowest gold income role in the entire game, you're a jerk.

Trias0001 votes

I thought it was all about playing the game in a way that gives the highest chance of your team winning the match. Letting your midlaner or adc get as much gold as possible (be it through kills, cs, assissts, or wards - doesn't matter, gold is gold) is generally agreed to help achieve that goal.

Oleandervine2 votes

Simple solution. Tie the ward kill XP to the Sightstone, as a passive. For instance:

Unique Passive: Destroying wards now grants you 30 experience points.

Suddenly, ADCs and Junglers won't care about stealing ward kills, and you won't be giving the entire enemy team an advantage because only sightstone users would gain the XP. Problem solved, and direct buff to supports.
