Why is Vlad on Perma Ban?

WitchQueen Annie··6 votes·2,401 views

Vladimir is powerful WHEN A GOOD PLAYER plays him. Yet from my experience, most people have no clue how to play him.

Yet now he has an over 80% ban rate in Ranked. How come?

I mean, as a Vlad main, I would like to be able to play my champion in ranked again (so I'll admit a vested interest); but it does seem like the stats (the probability of the average person in Ranked being able to hard carry with a Vlad being low) don't justify the ban rate.

I mean statistically, you're more likely to lose a game due to a fed Leblanc or a fed Lucian. Yet those guys aren't banned...

He's pick/ban in competitive and most players base their decision on that. Few players ban based on playrates and winrates even though it would almost certainly work better for them than simply banning what is popular in an environment almost entirely unlike what they play.

His empowered Q heals him for about 1000 health late game. 1000 heal on a point-and-click, low cooldown, ranged ability.

Add that on top of the fact that he has the ability to become cancer untargetable, uses no mana, builds Rylai, and spams his poke to no end in lane, and you end up with: no thanks I'd actually rather face Zed.

And sure, you may not think those Vladimirs are any good. But that doesn't mean the rest of us non-Vladimir players feel the same way about them. I've been maining Volibear for two years and every time I see another Volibear, I spend the whole game just judging how terrible he is. But to the rest of the community, that baddie Volibear is OP and meta and ban-worthy.

Because he doesn't take skill to play?

Because in Gold+ he gets pretty unbearable once he gets rolling.

because people actually enjoy playing against leblanc and lucian. whereas playing VS vlad is an exercise in annoyance.

Are you sure we are playing the same game?

yes. the assassin VS assassin matchup is what most mid lane players want. it's an interactive game where both players have kill potential and both are constantly open to attack and need to keep their wits about them.

facing vlad on the other hand, is you spending disproportionate efforts to keep his health down, only to have it back up if you let up even for 20 seconds. its effort effort effort all the time with no reward and vlad outscaling you eventually.

Yes, Vlad is annoying and a bit too strong at the moment. But at least he has the decency to get relatively close to me, thus offering a more "interactive game" as you put it than miss "I chunk you from half a screen away and immediately blink back so you can't retaliate" LB.

Ryze you get to blink back when i've had my say Ahri level orbs, trade evenly Swain who am i kidding, let's just morph and eat her Maokai was that damage? give me a 5 minutes to get my item, i'll come dive you Poppy let's get one thing straight: you get to dash back when i tell you to go to the fountain. Azir you're not actually in range for that, girl Ziggs what he said Nidalee those two mooks stole my shtick... and then riot nerfed me.... "kitten eyes".... miao ?

I think most people just had that good Vladimir one game and decided FUCK THAT and ban him every game. I have yet to ban Vladimir, I usually go for swain or udyr still. If I'm mid I ban yasuo, just cuz I personally can't lane against a decent Yas player. I just suck against him.

He is extremely powerful in low elo though if you know what you're doing. I'm only low Silver but I completely destroy with him until my account's MMR just became too high for me to handle it (now I get Golds and Plats in my games, even though I've never gone past Silver 4).

Now my account in Normals is all distorted. I'm over-inflated with my MMR, with a Vlad that can no longer hard carry and with no other champ who can do anything closely resembling Gold level.

If you really know what you're doing you're not in low elo. Harsh, but true (for me too, I admit).

I run it all the time. I prefer it to Strength of Ages or Thunderlords.

The extra mobility after landing an E makes you unstoppable.

I have no idea y people ban him, whenever I see him I just play gangplank, azir or some other champ that scales just as hard. Then I just farm during laning phase and wait to outscale
