Seriously, Champion Mastery needs some fixing

I was playing Rengar and was close to reaching Mastery 4. After a week hiatus on playing Rengar, I decided to try him out til I can get to the Mastery 4 tier.

In game, I admit I was playing in a Bronzish style. Missed skillshots, kept getting ganked lots. And for some reason, in this game, I have this habit to ult AFTER I commit into a 1v1. As in finding an enemy Riven by walking up to her face/jump from bush. Only when the fight seems bad, I hit my ult hoping the invisibility would keep me safe.

Yep, I know, I really needed some fixing to be done on my habit T.T But after that, my team won us the game, with me ending with 6/5 & enemy surrendered. And guess what.** I got rewarded +1453 points for winning with Rengar in a Wood 5 playstyle.** Getting to Mastery 4 like this makes me feel like crap. This doesn't even feel like I've actually "mastered" that champ. It's just like the exact same feeling of gaining LPs in rank games where you go 0/20 as LB & got +20 LP for winning.

They should either fix this sort of thing of giving winning team more Mastery Points even though they played like a Wood 5 tier, or just rename Champion Mastery into Victory/Defeat Mastery.

Why do people think champ mastery means anything. Its just another grind for "cool" points. Nothing more, nothing less.

Pretty much. The system is more about how often you play & win with a champ rather than being about your performance & team contribution on said champ. That's not what I think of when I see the word "mastery". The points are just there for the grind & once you reach tier 5,the point are completely useless. The tiers & rewards are just there to show off. The grades are the only helpful part of the system because it helps you evaluate your performance.Even then, the grades aren't that great because we can't tell what got us that grade or what we can do to get a better grade.

If Riot removes the mastery system tomorrow,I wouldn't care.Yeah I can't show off anymore, but I don't need some banner or emote to show how good I am with X Champ.

You didn't get Rank 5 for that game specifically, but the fact that you played the champion for a while and have a deeper understanding of it because of that. Nothing in this game is on a per game basis, you have to look at a series of games to learn anything.

I think part of the problem is they can only get so much information from stats. They can't really tell if you made bad decisions if they happened to kind of work out.

I mean KDA isn't always the most important aspect of the game, you could die a lot to save allies. Also, one of the LCS players quoted "If you are crap in a game, warding a lot makes you extremly productive an helpful." Winning is the whole point in LoL, but Champion Mastery takes it to where winning is the only thing that recognizes you to give you more pts. So I agree.

enemy goes 1/6 in lane and still gets S ranking by the end of the match

(admittedly he turned his game around but still

Champion mastery is meaningless.

Why do you care?

Skins are also meaningless, but people REALLY care about those.
