Tank meta got replaced with "Build Tank" mera.

Why is it that former assaaain-esque champions like Akali, Ekko, Fizz, and Diana are all beginning to to just build like a bruiser/tank, and they're all still able to burst down squishies in less than a second? Sterak's is another cancerous item that people like Graves, Kindred, and Quinn are building now that protects them, yet it doesn't even scale with the original intention of the item, melee bruisers?

They aren't able to 100%-->0% squishies with full-tank builds. The QWER bases of all 4 are stuck at ~50% of the max-HP of any champion at the same level. Those champions all do have pretty potent AA steroids for drawn-out fights though.

As for why those champions are doing that: You can deal twice as much damage by building damage, you can also do twice as much damage by building defense and surviving long enough to deal more damage. ATM AP/Mage itemization is weaker than tank/fighter itemization, making the most cost-efficient route to doubling damage the tanky route.

Sterak's is another cancerous item that people like Graves, Kindred, and Quinn are building now that protects them, yet it doesn't even scale with the original intention of the item, melee bruisers?

Tanky DPS fighters have always had a really awkward interaction with LoL's itemization.

Generally speaking champions rely on Defense, Mobility, and/or Range to survive long enough to do their job.

Rather than focusing on these 3 qualities, itemization just harkens back to JRPG days of Defense and Offense being the only directions to scale a character: which results in a lot of awkward item interactions and pretty weak ties in binding any champion to a specific level of offense and defense. With Sterak's: Tanky DPS champions don't have a core stat to scale anything off of.

they have too much sticking power. plus low cooldowns. they just stick to you and reapply base damages over and over again. also sunfire and grasp and ibg. just constant little amounts of damage adds up.

Because Riot can't design proper classes so everything becomes an amalgam of crap.

I'm laughing at the people talking about numbers and looking at things on paper, but they just need to see one game where this happens and they'll realize just how annoying it is that these champions become nigh impossible to peel away or deal with.

Magic damage is inherently better than Physical damage, so much so that AP assassins that build full tank and outduel everyone. You think it's a coincidence that Akali Ekko Fizz Diana are the best Sunfire abusers? High Mobility+High magic base damages+Sunfire=OP.

Because as an assassin you need to get into your target and kill them. But carries have such high amounts of damage and such low defenses that your base damages are enough to get the job done. So why build more damage when you already have that damage to kill them?

Instead they will build resistances and health so they can reach their target. Hence the "tank" meta.

This is actually not a tank meta, but a tanky DPS meta, thanks to S6's buffs to IBG (20% CdR, more Armor) and Sunfire Cape (+50 HP, +5 Armor, +50% bonus burn to minions and monsters). Not to mention Grasp of the Undying turning health into more sustained damage and Spirit Visage making you all but invulnerable to magic burst. Once these items and GotU are nerfed (6.8 and hopefully 6.9), these "tanks" (refering to the IBG/SF/SV builders) should be back in line.

Akali building tank has already ebbed somewhat away again, due to the nerfs to Titanic Hydra. Her best builds are back to normal.

Ekko was overbuffed. Plain and simple.

If you're bursted down in a second as an APC or ADC from base damages alone, you really should go and bring some defense, either in your runes or in your items.

Sterak's was nerfed, and is now mainly bought as a specific anti-burst tool. Kindred and Quinn actually lose gold efficiency from completing the item, as they never get to 100 base AD, and the components of Sterak's give 25 AD already.
