His wall lowers defense and secures ganks, he jumps in the middle of a teamfight and still can do damage with his E before and after death. He has an extremely safe laning phase. If you have good communication with your team, when you ult you can easily pick up a kill or ensure one. He has extremely high DPS and has one of the fastest times for killing dragon/baron.

If I'm not mistaken, he gains mana from killing minions with his Q. This has way more range than his autoattack, his laning phase is about as safe as Azir's.

It's because people don't like his teamfighting style and people prefer either tankiness or burst over DPS.

Karthus isn't safe, not at all. His bases are low, he usually rushes tear and he has 0 mobility or CC. His long range Q doesn't change that.

His Q doesn't hit hard and it is very counterplayable - you can just dodge it, its impossible to land on someone with 400 MS... or eat it when standing in minion wave and take only half damage.

He's not weak though so why buff him?

HE can't do anything about assassins, as he has no burst potential, hard peel, or movement.

He can't do anything about tanks, especially drainy tanks like darius.

Karthus is literally only good against immobile champions that build badly.

His major utility is on an OVER 3 minute coldown at level 1, hits 3 minutes at level 2, and is FINALLY ONLY 2.5 minutes at level 3. It's hard to fit CDR into his build, except maybe Morello and boots, but if you give up the spellpen from boots you are missing a lot of the pen you need to overcome the rampant MR itemization that came out in the last year. Hexdrinker fucks karthus more than most mids.

The trick is you take exhaust to slash the assassin burst while you blow them up with Q's, keep your distance and farm vs darius, and get CDR runes so you can build straight nuke damage. Not everyone is gonna build MR, and globalwide nuke along with high damage Q's will at least make it easy for your team to clean up, if you don't outright get kills.

Well, Karthus can arguably take on Assassins the best since he can still kill them post-death and Mages aren't really meant to be able to just kill Tanks. Tanks are resistant against burst and mot extremely frequent poke damage, so Karthus' class of champion as a whole doesn't really perform well against Tanks.

On the other side of the spectrum, Karthus is arguably the best Mage at team fights and can BLOW UP squishy champions, so he doesn't really need a buff.

If you need CDR as Karthus past Morello of course, try building item 3001 and item 3157 . They are decent items for him.

Brand and Azir bring the same(if not more) damage while being safer... oh, and they have decent utility. Like, i don't want him buffed, because he's either weak or overbearing. Its just that his R takes extreme toll on his design space. If you took out his R he'd be worse than superminion.

He's balanced but countered very easily. There are so many META Champions and items that just literally ignore his R's burst damage and until it is up again they could've build 3 MR items [ Vladimir Fizz Fiora Zac Anivia item 3157 item 3102 item 3155 ].

Yes in season 1. 5 years ago. Almost every aspect of the game has changed since then. His ult has significantly more counter play now. He no longer gets CDR from masteries. Generally he only gets 10% CDR from items and not until mid game. His opponents will often times get their ult several times before he gets it back once.

The Ult CD is simply too long. Reducing it will definitely not make him OP.

ABSOLUTELY NOT

Karthus ult probably needs a longer cooldown.

If karthus does get a shorter cooldown it needs to be gated by some pre-condition (example: karthus cooldown is now 10 minutes, remove 1 second everytime something dies near him) but even then its important to keep his ult predictable.

Why this is is because in the past its been shown that Karthus with his ult up is toxic and suffocating to the game and especially at high level play he will cause the game to become stagnant and horribly unfun to play or watch for anyone who isn't a derpy bronzodian who doesn't have to worry about things like losing 20% of teamwide hp because they are just going to die diving karthus's ghost under tower and screaming about how unfair life is anyways.

Additionally, buffing karthus's ult cooldowns will not improve his winrate by much at higher levels of play, it will simply make the game less fun. Karthus's ult is his weakest ability and buffing it will have the least impact on karthus's gameplay while having a great impact on increasing game toxicity. It simply is not worth doing. Karthus's strongest ability is his W and buffing or nerfing this will more easily fix whatever ailments karthus players may be having assuming they aren't just terrible people who love suffocating games.

Note: I have made no argument against buffing Karthus's ult damage Note: I have not claimed that karthus was or is OP Note: I have not commented on whether or not Karthus is or is not OP Note: this is not just my opinion, this is based off what karthus did to this game during season 2. NEVER AGAIN Note: Riot also nerfed soraka's ult for the same reason as well as other global ults or formerly global ults.
