Not trying to pull the Diamond/S1 card out... but I have some things I need to say

Everyone that I have talked to that has been here for more than 1-2 seasons feels like there is just too much damage in the game. Personally I feel exactly the same way.

I remember what kept me playing this game Since S1 (I have the S1 kayle skin to prove I've been here that long btw):

  1. Freedom of playing how I want to play Sure there was some broken shit back in the day, but you could play tank ADC, you could play ap Garen/trynd/Yi, ad anivia/soraka/TF, some of it was better than others, but you could play all of it. Now you have damage, damage or cc bot. There used to actually be a strat where you would walk up to a tower (without minions with you) and just kill it. You could play maximum backdoor alistar and use his bonus damage to tower to kill it. Everyone could build all items, because champions weren't forced or inherently op by purchasing an item over another because they all had similar strength. I really could go on, but for brevity sake I'll skip the rest.

  2. Having fun How many people remember Tiamat tuesday? http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=2476697 It was super fun having people actually just troll around and do things like this, and adc soraka. http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=489180&page=1#post5894954 How many people remember chasing vaynes out of team fights and killing her if she stopped moving, or dying if she kited you well enough, or even just bruiser vayne builds to counter said shenanigans. http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=4174481

  3. There were more strats than just simply nuking the enemy down. Sure teamfights lasted longer, and sure games lasted longer, but it was alot of fun trying to kill an adc that was kiting you. Now it just feels like well I cc'd them, and my teammate killed them, next enemy champion. I honestly don't remember every thinking Wow I died quickly playing any champion. If I orb walked (kited) properly as an adc I could deal some pretty nice damage killing 1-2 champs before I died. If I didn't I died pretty quickly. Mobility wasn't a big issue in the earlier seasons because CC's lasted longer ( tenacity did also have more value with less knockups). Anyone seen the morganna CC jokes? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb19HtSR8TU Being tanky didn't mean that you only had to be able to CC the enemy, there was also skill shot blocking, chasing out the enemy damage dealer, and just straight up getting in the enemies face.

I just don't feel like League is really doing any of that for me anymore. To me new League feels like a one punch fight. Hit hard, first, and make sure they stay down ( I guess that is the American way). I used to play a lot of top lane, and when the enemy jungler ganked I would walk back to tower, wait for him to leave, and then walk back into lane. Now I just hit S, and go make some hot chocolate because now that I died once I'm probably gonna feed. I may as well have the hot chocolate to sip on while I'm in that constant death screen. The worst part about it is that if I'm supposed to be a "damage champ" or have too low of base stats I can't even afford to dip into tank stats to try and farm out lane, because doing so will likely make me lose lane harder.

I know I'm probably talking to a wall of what will be downvotes since everyone seems to want damage to be super hyper, but I just miss the simplicity of doing what I wanted on any champion and still being able to play. Now I just feel trapped between full damage or CC bots.

League doesn't even feel like a strategy game that much anymore. Proplay is just 5 man death balls abusing the most broken supports CC, the most broken tank + stoneplate, and the most broken ADC's DPS.

Not even mentioning most of my favorite champions are just being dicked on by the incompetence of the balance team. Kayle getting 3/4ths of her attacks speed reds/quints while everyone else gets 100% of their things; Kayle getting nothing in return for her CDR blues? (Who gives a shit about magic pen being gone, Kayle mid needed a buff anyways and she'll still suck). Aatrox still being unplayable due to Bramble Vest. Kayn doesn't really have a Keystone anymore. Ashe is shit. Varus isn't fun anymore every since the Q nerf.

The strategy is to afk stand in the back until your teammate cc's them, and then follow up with an instanuke.

Defending towers isn't really even a thing anymore in a large portion of my games. Teammates pretty much just let towers go to avoid feeding even harder.

Turrets suck both in the fact they've been nerfed and insane damage creep.

You're right. Excellent points.

In the past I'd body block for players I felt wouldn't react quick enough when I was a tank or bruiser champ, now if you do that you die despite 245 armor and 3k or more hp. Before half the cc ends at 15 minutes.

The community is offended and lives reporting for anything. If you don't play skt or in this case SSG meta one mistake, reported.

Sad watching something that was fun degrade over time. Inb4 new players or fanboy vets "league is the best it has ever been!" statements.

I do understand that there are players that like this hyper damage because it keeps the game moving, but mistake forgiveness is a powerful tool. Just imagine if your country had the death penalty for any infraction of any crime. It would be extremely stressful just going out in public, and that is basically how I feel about league right now. If I make even one slight misstep I'm dead.

That feeling when you forget it's season 7, so you build full fuckin' tank and then block a skill-shot for your squishy teammate, only to immediately lose 3/4ths of your health and have to B while your team loses 2 towers because it's a 4 vs 5 and the tower ain't gonna save them.

I can't stress this enough. Everyone keeps asking me what the point of having a tank without cc is when I try and explain that they have uses other than cc. I miss actually being able to absorb damage for my team, and no I don't mean healing my team, I mean just straight standing infront of it so that it body blocks for my team.

I remember in past seasons actually taking nid spears to the face for my teammates. I would not do that now, with any champion.

They have to do stuff different year to year. The most fun I've ever had is where the most freedom was to be had, and everything was over-powered. I think you know what season that it.

Its always nice to know that I'm not alone in wanting more freedom over how I play. Thank you!

If you want every champion to be good at everything then what's the point of picking one champion over another? You'd be left with essentially one champion with 139 "skins." Either all the champions are good at certain things and bad at others or they're all the same. I don't prefer the latter.

You bring up a really good point, but that is the current issue. Currently the champions do feel like they all do the same thing. You either CC or you nuke. It used to be that you picked a champion for its skills. Look at ad soraka vs ad ashe when they were both highly viable. (sure one is "troll" but lets skip that subject for now.

You would pick ashe for her toggle slow to kite (knowing when to turn it on and off were important so you managed your mana, becaue in the old system you could run out) Her vision/gold gen (hawkshot used to give on minion kill bonus gold) Her CC ulti.

You would pick soraka (as adc) because you wanted to Heal your frontline Give mana to your allies You could also q inbetween autos

Two completely different kits both able to just stand there and auto. The fights 1v1 were actually quite interesting too, because a two champions that aren't very gimmicky and just straight AA champions ashe had to rely on using her Arrow properly to finish off soraka, and soraka would just heal herself to stop herself from dying to ashe. It brought two completely different aspects to team fights too. Soraka could heal teammates so they could go back in and frontline better, and ashe could kite so that enemies couldn't make it out of a fight.
