Kaioko2 votesRight after you have your tear, your ROA and how many other weak early game items? They also can't hard cc you, shouldn't stay out of your range or avoid engaging you with a full passive stacks up.
Ryze is fine anybody foolish enough with no hard CC to engage him solo late game deserves to die.

The reason his winrate is abysmally low is because nobody knows how to play him, and he is quite easy to shutdown with certain matchups.

That's because Cho' Gath has enough disables to stop Ryze in his super charged mode. Knock up+Silence = dead smurf
