A very mathematical alternative to First Brick gold

(For the first 5-10 minutes of the game) In addition to granting global and local gold, destroying your first tower lowers the global and local gold the enemy team gains for destroying theirs (this effect lasts 1-5 minutes).

Bam. No early game tower trades and soloQ is affected only in niche scenarios. Certainly less affected than it is now. Unless I'm wrong and it's the additional gold, not the gold differential that killed lane swaps.

Edit: Damn, I'd've liked some constructive criticism before you downvoted my laneswap solution as you always do.

Additional gold reads much better than reduced gold. Also it leads to weird case when team who lost tower wants to wait out the debuff.

With just gold laneswaps would just become more risky. Change that really killed those is that bot towers aren't fortified now.

Whaddya mean "reads"?

Sure it's weird but in soloQ especially, you can always freeze the wave, deny the minions, invade or go for objectives.

When you get bonus gold, there is a clear indicator how much you gained by taking this tower - big yellow "+525" above your head. The gain is clear and immediate.

When you deny your enemy gold, there is no such thing. Also, in your proposal, amount of gold advantage might vary. Current "bonus gold" system clearly communicates "it is more than worth it to take first tower before enemies do".

Why should it vary? Gold for a tower kill is set in stone.

So the reason I got downvotes is ... clarity. Great. You don't get a big yellow "+30~" everytime you deny your lane opponent minions either, yet it's a widely accepted strategy.

Edit: Didn't see tower fortification at first, fair enough.

Amount of towers take in 5-10 minutes while the debuff lasts may vary tho.

Yes. I only meant the first tower taken while the debuff lasts tho.

But again, you made a valid point about bot tower being weaker, I didn't take that into consideration, even if my suggestion still seems loads better for soloQ (or at least less impactful to it) than first brick gold.

I feel like this is going to be a Seesaw that Riot won't be able to balance. If the gold disadvantage = lane swap is not an option. and if gold Neutral = Lane swap if it will benefit you.

Riot didn't necessarily want to kill the lane swap. but they did want a potential gold advantage to make lane swaps more risky. (but Presumably still advantageous if it gets the ADC/top laner out of a bad matchup.)

I don't quite get that. The reason why lane swaps were so popular was because it a)forced the jungler to reveal their position (outside of running past midlane to gank it) b)it allowed you to funnel gold on the person you wanted it on with no risk at all c)reduced the chances of TP ganks from the top laners as they'd be underleveled.

What do you mean when you say lane swaps giving gold advantages makes them more risky? Sounds to me like they make them advantageous.

Basically, the tower first blood (with no fortification on bot tower) ensures that the team who didn't swap will get the first tower gold. (and yeah, before that, lane swapping had no other drawback if it was advantageous to do so.)

What I'm suggesting is that forfeiting the tower first blood by lane swapping increases your risk of losing the game. And over all, that should be the case to an extent. But that risk shouldn't completely create a scenario where you can't afford to lane swap even if it could help you. (in such a case, the lane swap really would be dead.)

Hmmm. Well, lane swaps still happen, only they can't be tower trades any more, which leads to teams swapping after the top laner and jungler get strong enough not to get dove.
